Ohio State vs. Cincinnati, 2002, and why it will never happen again: Buckeye ReTalkable Feb 25, 2022
    Show notes

Buckeye Talk is back with another Buckeye ReTalkable, this time reliving the 2002 Ohio State vs. Cincinnati game in Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati.

Why? Because Cincinnati is the football capital of Ohio right now with what the Bearcats and Bengals did this season, so Cincinnati football is hot. And this game, 20 years ago, would have been the biggest moment in Bearcats football history to that point if they had been able top pull off the upset.

Meanwhile, No. 6 Ohio State was without an injured Maurice Clarett for this game, the Buckeyes put Chris Gamble on defense for the first time in this game, and Craig Krenzel showed off his ability to make winning plays at quarterback at the right time.

The game can be watched in a shortened 38-minute version of YouTube, so watch that and listen to this on the latest Buckeye Talk from cleveland.com.

How crucial is Richard Young to Ohio State's 2023 recruiting class? Buckeye Football Futures Feb 22, 2022
    Show notes

Nathan and Stephen are back with a rapid-fire edition of BFF. Among the topics:

    • Should fans be worried that the Richard Young pursuit could leave OSU in a 2020-like running back situation?

    • Are we making too much of positional fit with offensive linemen like Luke Montgomery?

    • Where will Ryan Montgomery be ranked when the first 2025 rankings come out?

    • Which top 2023 linebacker from the south is OSU more likely to eventually sign?

Thoughts on those issues and more on this recruiting-only episode.

Would an all-Ohio State alum team contend for the Super Bowl? Feb 21, 2022
    Show notes

Doug and Nathan break off of discussing current Buckeyes to discuss the ones who have moved on to the NFL. Would a team made up of only OSU alums be a Super Bowl contender? Obviously few teams can match the pairing of edge rushers and secondary that the former Buckeyes could put on the field. But is the offense powerful enough, and more specifically, is Justin Fields ready to lead a team this talented in the playoffs? Listen in and join the debate by becoming a Buckeye Talk text subscriber.

What does Luke Montgomery's commitment mean for Ohio State's 2023 class? Buckeye Football Futures Feb 18, 2022
    Show notes

Ohio State needed major offensive line prospects in its 2023 class, and it landed one Thursday in Findlay's Luke Montgomery. Stephen was there and brings back the details of Montgomery's decision, including the rule Justin Frye played in closing the commitment and what role Montgomery can play in growing the class. Also, we answer our text subscriber questions on LeBron James as an OSU recruiter, whether the 2023 class can end up ranked No. 1 overall and more.

Life in the transfer portal as explained by a Buckeye currently in there Feb 17, 2022
    Show notes

On this Thursday Buckeye Talk episode, Doug Lesmerises interviews Ohio State defensive back Lloyd McFarquhar to get a first-hand look at what it's like in the transfer portal. McFarquhar joined the OSU program as a preferred walk-on in 2018 and after four seasons in scarlet and gray, he was interested in maybe finding a school where he could play more. So while he continues to work out with the Buckeyes, he has been talking with teams and thinking about a transfer for the fall.

What's the process of going in the portal? How did the OSU coaches handle it? Who were the receivers McFarquhar loved to match up with in practice while running on the scout team?

This is a portal peek and a fun conversation on Buckeye Talk.

-Should we reassess the value of the conference championship game?

Stephen Means, Nathan Baird and Doug Lesmerises discuss all of those things and more on this Wednesday episode.

Could the 2023 Ohio State Buckeyes still be a super team? Feb 15, 2022
    Show notes

On this Tuesday episode of Buckeye Talk, Doug Lesmerises, Nathan Baird and Stephen Means revisit a discussion they had last July, when they came to the very early conclusion that the 2023 Ohio State Buckeyes could be a super team.

Then, the idea of Quinn Ewers starting at quarterback for Ohio State in 2023 was a big part of that equation. Now, he's gone, so who will quarterback the Buckeyes in 2023, assuming C.J. Stroud is in the NFL?

The guys run through the potential starters at every position and decide if the super team idea still has merit.

Does Ohio State have a better basketball program than Michigan? Feb 14, 2022
    Show notes

On this Monday Buckeye Talk, Stephen Means and Doug Lesmerises discuss Ohio State basketball's collapse against Rutgers and its statement road win over Michigan. Chris Holtmann is 4-1 against Juwan Howard since Howard was hired as the Wolverines' head coach in 2019. So that leads to a question: Despite already winning a Big Ten title and getting a team to the Elite Eight while Holtmann has failed to do either, does the head-to-head record make OSU the better basketball program?

We also touch on E.J. Liddell's National Player of the Year candidacy, new 2023 commit Austin Parks and give out thoughts on Super Bowl LVI.

Thanks for listening to Buckeye Talk from cleveland.com.
