440: Sally Ann Hall and Dead Wife Pretty Jul 23, 2026
    Show notes

Sally Ann Hall Comedian! Writer! Actor! Friend! Delight! More!

Her debut comedy special Dead Wife Pretty is out now on Apple TV, Amazon Prime, and many others from Comedy Dynamics.

    From the press release:

"Glamourous high-school drop-out" Sally Ann presents a traditional standup show that butts heads with traditional values. She tells her coming-of-age journey from Alaska to New York City with vulnerable vulgarity and unflinching honesty. Says Sally Ann: "I'm a massive feminist with massive self-esteem issues, as I think many of us are. I'm struggling to shake off my conditioning and make peace with my trauma, like all millennials, so we can be the good little grownups we want to be. I've learned to process that by trauma-dumping on strangers in a silly, borderline-stupid way that's raunchy, but also…endearing? Can I say that? I think I can say that…I'm going to."

Sally Ann turns her lifetime of ridiculous lore into a relatable, honest, and hilarious performance. Her experiences in a religious family of origin are sharply juxtaposed with the strange, artistic life she's built with a thespian husband, about which she quips: "Look, it's embarrassing to have found happiness in a heterosexual marriage - but I have always found that the best material is born from my own embarrassment."

After dropping out of high school and bumming around Europe she came to New York City to continue bumming around, and ended up a singing bartender in a famous West Village piano bar. But she found her true calling in standup comedy after dating a series of male comedians who made her realize that audacity is often more rewarded than talent.

This special is the culmination of a decade of material created through male-dominated open mics, gay piano bars, rowdy clubs, cruise ships, and more than one seance. Sally Ann is thrilled to formally introduce herself to the world with her debut special: "It's not the kind of special you bring home to your parents…unless your parents smoke pot."

    MORE ABOUT SALLY ANN HALL:

New York sensation and Alaskan embarrassment Sally Ann Hall is an award-winning comedian, writer and actor who escaped the Northwest to pursue her dream of disappointing her parents. Sally Ann (who goes by the full Sally Ann) brings a unique blend of elegance and crassness to her comedy, which has been described as "combining adult wit with childlike bladder control". A staple in the New York Comedy scene, she's won three microphone-shaped trophies, two rounds of bedbugs, and one stalker who decided to move on after meeting her in person.

Sally Ann was born in Alaska to a "very Alaskan" family, went to high school in deeply conservative Idaho where she ran away from home, tried to make it in Europe, then made her way to New York at 20 years old and never left. Through years of many odd jobs and (some intentionally) failed careers, she climbed through the ranks in film and TV production as well as the service industry. Standup entered her life at the same moment she was offered a promotion to Producer on a famous TV show and a job as a singing bartender at a famous piano bar. Fearing the production position would sideline her new comedy career, she took the singing bartending gig… and has feared it was the biggest mistake of her life ever since.

She was the first place winner of the She Devil Comedy Festival, the Laughing Devil Comedy Festival, New York City's One Liner Madness, and was the first comedian in history to be named a Power Woman of the Year by Moves NY Magazine in 2025. She has headlined Carnival and Norwegian cruise ships, was a Caroline's on Broadway 'Breakout Artist', featured in the HBO Women in Comedy Festival, and was named a Comic to Watch in the prestigious New York Comedy Festival. Her live shows have been recommended by the New York Times, TimeOut NY, VICE, and maybe someday, her mom and dad.

438: Jamie Feldman and Rachel Webster and Debt Heads Jul 03, 2026
    Show notes

Rachel Webster! Jamie Feldman! Podcast hosts! Writers! Friends! Delights! More! Rachel and Jamie are the creators and co-hosts of the show Debt Heads, a multi-award-winning narrative podcast.

In their words it is "a true crime investigation into the systematic murder of our bank accounts, the violent myths that have robbed us of our imagination, and the prison break we're planning." In March, Feldman and Webster won a coveted Ambie Award for Best Indie Hosts (Ambies Speech), and the Gold Signal Award for Best Indie Podcast & Best New Podcast. Debt Heads topped many "best of" lists for 2025 including: The Atlantic's 20 Best Podcasts of the Year, Apple's Best So Far, as well as Lifehacker's 20 Most Essential Podcasts and Hark Audio's Best of 2025. They've been featured on All of It with Alison Stewart, Marketplace and NBC Nightly News.

Season 1 introduced us to the co-hosts' personal lives, their secret feelings of financial "failure", and interrogated the ways that our economy thrives on consumer debt. On June 25th, they published six new episodes that continue the consumer debt story by investigating the other side of personal finance -- the labor market. Layoffs, the gig economy, navigating the chaos of modern adulthood while trying to make a living -- the Millennial Dreams of self actualization in the workplace have turned into a nightmare so fierce that we have no choice but to begin to imagine a new way to live. In the final episode of the season, Jamie and Rachel come full circle with one final question: What is debt, really? And who is actually in debt to whom?

    Show notes

Max Hovey! Author! Queer sex educator! Friend! Delight! More! Max and I have a great chat! You can have a great listen! And here's some info about Max and his new book out today:

"From acclaimed queer advocate and sex educator Max Hovey comes NO FATS, NO FEMS: A Guide to Queer Empathy and Unpacking Prejudice (on sale May 19, 2026; $19.99; HarperOne), the essential modern guide that dissects the exclusionary rhetoric often found in queer spaces and offers a revolutionary framework for fostering understanding, self-reflection, and community unity.

Through personal anecdotes, interviews with 21 trailblazing voices, and a sharp critique of internalized homophobia, racism, transphobia, and body image issues, Hovey sheds light on the challenges queer individuals face both within and outside their community. NO FATS, NO FEMS also celebrates the resilience, diversity, and beauty of queer identities, offering actionable steps to foster empathy and create a more inclusive future.

    NO FATS, NO FEMS explores:

    • The role of race, class, and identity in shaping prejudice within queer spaces.
    • How historical and cultural shifts have influenced modern queer thought.
    • The impact of internalized homophobia and body image struggles.
    • Tools for fostering inclusion, sexual liberation, and non-conformity.
    • How to cultivate pride, empathy, and community for a kinder future.

NO FATS, NO FEMS is more than a book—it's a call to action for anyone invested in creating a more compassionate and equitable world." Also, Max is a queer sex educator and you can find him and his queer sex education platform CLIMAX on IG here:

431: Matt Koff and Cat Man May 15, 2026
    Show notes

Matt Koff! Comedian! Writer! Friend! Delight! More! Matt is a very funny comedian friend! We have a great chat and you can have a great listen! Then tonight you can watch his new special! Here's some more information about that from the press release that says it better than I ever could:

Tonight: Cat Man Premiering on YouTube May 15th at 8pm ET, 2026

Tuesday: NYC Release Viewing Party Tuesday May 19th at Littlefield

Any time: READ THE DEADLINE EXCLUSIVE

Emmy-Winning writer for the Daily Show, and winner of New York's Funniest Stand Up 2023, Matt Koff is excited to announce the YouTube release of his second comedy hour, Cat Man, May 15th with a premiere at 8pm with Koff attending; he will be in the chat. Said Koff, "I'm excited to share my special with the broader audience of YouTube. If this special doesn't bring about world peace, nothing will."

Cat Man is an hour of fresh stand-up material from the Comedy Cellar regular about divorce, middle-age and cats. Koff believes there is a real bias against men with cats. He says "People love cats, but men with cats make people uncomfortable. Including me. I'm a man with a cat and I'm creeped out by myself!" The special is also a reprieve for Koff from his main subject of joke-writing at the Daily Show: Donald Trump. He says "It was nice to do an entire special that doesn't mention the president, whomever he may be. And judging from the state of the world, this could very well be my last comedy special, so I'm excited to get it out there." He added, "I will still be touring doomsday bunkers though."

Cat Man was shot at The Comedy Cellar with some of Matt Koff's long-time Daily Show colleagues including director David Paul Meyer, producer Asad Bokhari, and lighting director George Countas, fresh off his win as New York's top Pedro Pascal lookalike. Art Director Becca Gialanella, also a Daily Show colleague, transformed the Cellar's Village Underground into a 1970s lounge. There are a number of other comics from his 23 years in the biz, including Jon Stewart himself (spoiler), that also make a guest appearance.

Matt Koff had always dreamed of performing at the Comedy Cellar. He says "It took me years to get an audition there and I was so bitter about not getting in, sometimes I would walk past the Cellar and hiss at the club. Now I get to perform there and hiss at the audience when they don't like a joke."

    More About Matt Koff:

Matt Koff is a Brooklyn-based stand-up comic and veteran Emmy-Winning TV writer working at The Daily Show for the last 13 years. His debut comedy album, WHO'S MY LITTLE GUY?, is out on 800 Pound Gorilla Records. As a stand-up, Matt has appeared on Comedy Central, WNYC, WFMU, and The History Channel, which is how you know he's smart. Matt has also written for The Onion and The White House Correspondents' Dinner hosted by Trevor Noah. He won the title of 'New York's Funniest Stand Up' in 2023 and co-created the Twitter sensation TrumpComedyNerd, which was called one of the 207 Top Comedy Moments of 2010s by Vulture.

    Praise For Matt Koff's Stand-up:

    "Hilarious!" - Weird Al

    "Shamefully excellent" - Comedy Cake

"A hilariously dark comedic debut" - the Daily Californian

"Koff is a great comedy writer" - Time Out NY York
