    524. Tyler Connoly (Theory of a Deadman) Sep 20, 2026
    Show notes

Join Tyler and I for a chat before the frontman played a sold out show here in Grand Rapids.

Tyler opens up about the bands longevity, getting older, and becoming more comfortable with who you are. How all of these things allowed Theory to get back to making music that actually makes them happy.

We talk about knowing when to trust your own instincts. How Tyler navigates being an introvert despite spending his life as a frontman and the balance of vulnerability and humor in his songwriting.

Tyler share how “Bad Girlfriend” became an unlikely dive bar and strip club anthem. What fans can expect from their latest EP Part 1: Funeral Songs , the themes tying these songs together, and what “Part 1” might mean for what Theory has coming next and more in this backstage chat with the Theory of a Deadman frontman.

    523. Frank Bello (Anthrax) Aug 19, 2026
    Show notes

Join Frank and I as we talk about the bands upcoming album, "Curium Perficio" out September 18th via Megaforce Records and Nuclear Blast Records respectively.

We discuss what it means to be in a band that's been around for over 40 years, and how Frank and the band have managed to navigate an ever-changing music industry while still remaining true to who they are.

Frank shares some humorous stories about how things have changed for him and the guys over the decades of touring, how it's still about having fun with friends on the road, but now it also includes making sure to do yoga and playing with ingrown toenails and such.

Frank and I discuss how therapy helped each of us as we get older in life, living life to the fullest in memory of family and friends we've lost along the way, and if the title of the album is a clue that maybe this might be the bands last.

All this and more in my chat with the legendary Frank Bello

    522. Amir Al-Qadaffi (Manager/1Hotslice) Jul 19, 2026
    Show notes

Join Amir and I as we reflect on his childhood friend Myke Terry's Bury Your Dead albums, how it was for him to see a close friend joining this band on the rise and how it begat his foray into the touring world.

Amir talks about how it was going from friends with the BYD camp to earning their respect and learning the ropes of the touring world on the fly. Some of the struggles he faced as the band quickly climbed the ranks from smaller clubs to doing arenas, and why he subsequently walked took a break from that life.

We also get into growing up out east, racism in the metal and hardcore scenes, and how it is to be in business with one of your longest tenured friends and how he and Myke have navigated that without it ruining their friendship along the way.

Amir also opens up about his latest endevour, 1Hotslice, which takes an interesting approach to artist managing and consulting form a completely different perspective, and how he came up with it.

All this and more in my chat with the renaissance man himself.

    521. Ray Hawthorne Jul 07, 2026
    Show notes

Join Ray and I as we talk about “HIM”, the movie I had JUST finished minutes before we did this chat. We talk what we think the movie was getting at with its symbolism and kinda nerding out about Jordan Peele and the worlds that he’s created over his movies, and if they’re possibly a shared multiverse?

From there Ray opens up about the success of his solo career, how when we last talked it was sort of a last ditch attempt at a career in making music. The challenges of releasing a song a week for a year. Dealing with the success of his solo material, while also learning to deal with comments that he was either an industry plant or wasn’t even a real human being but AI.

We talk about how the success of those songs allowed Ray to really dive deeper into himself to get to some of his most personal songs yet, including one that he wrote for his dad that he hasn’t shown him yet. We also dive into how hard it is for each of us to know how much of ourselves to put into our creative outlets due to backlash from strangers.

Ray talks about some big life changes happening for him, partying with Gary Busey and more in this chat.

    520. A Static Lullaby Jun 21, 2026
    Show notes

Join me as I chat with the members of A Static Lullaby.

We discuss the band's decision to release a live version of their debut album rather than pursuing a traditional rerecording or remaster, and what it was like revisiting those songs years later. We also talk about the experience of performing the album live and how their relationship with the material has evolved over time.

Additionally, we dive into their album Rattlesnake, examining its reception upon release compared to how fans view it today. We also revisit the band's iconic cover of Britney Spears' "Toxic," discussing how the idea came together, what it was like having one of their biggest songs be a cover, and what they believe makes for a truly great cover song. Along the way, we share some of the band's favorite covers and influences.

We close things out by discussing what's next for A Static Lullaby, what fans can expect moving forward, and much more.

Be sure to check out the band's latest releases and follow them on social media to stay up to date on everything they have coming next.

Join Stephen and I as we kick things off sounding like old men talking about the days before cell phones, using actual maps and how much of the pre technology nostalgia will the youth of today explore before realizing things are pretty good now?

From there we dive into the bands latest album, Dissenter, (out now) and much wild it is to hear a band 20+ years into their careers still pushing the boundaries of who and what their sound is.

Stephen talks about the process and intention behind

those decisions and how scoring films really inspired the cinematic feel to this album, down to the narrative of this record. What he hopes fans take away from this album and much more in this reflective episode with the Haste The Day vocalist.

    Show notes

Join Travis and I as we talk about the bands latest album, "The End Is Not The End".

Travis shares how the band really wanted to step out of their comfort zone and write and record as a full band. He also talks about how that process has gotten easier over the decades, not being precious about your ideas and what it was like having one of his favorite vocalists sing on the album.

We also talk about avoiding the comment sections and why we as people tend to fixate on ONE negative thing versus all the positives people say about us.

Travis takes us through the process of making another signature guitar, the new features that make this one different from the last and how it's really an extension of trying new things in life as well.

We discuss learning to re appreciate everyday things after losing them for a little while. The power of asking for help, including advice you'd give your 20 year old self.

John and I share tales of getting older and how comedically opposite our bladder issues are and more in this chat with one of the best people in the world.

    516. Josh Schroeder (Producer /Random Awesome Studios) Dec 28, 2025
    Show notes

Join Josh and I as we sit piano side in one of the spare rooms in his home studio for this chat.

Josh talks about some of the viral moments that have happened to bands he’s worked with, how aware he or the band are of what those moments could be when working on these songs.

Josh shares how he tries to not be known for a “sound” as he’s become an in demand producer for heavier music, but to foster and environment and a process that’s unique to each band and the members within, and that that’s what people can hear in the records he’s worked on. He also talks about not taking the social side of the business too seriously, as evident by his nail the mix promo video, and how he’s traversed that.

Josh also shares how a doomed trip to Japan helped foster his and his wife’s blossoming obsession with pinball machines. What he’s learned from playing and collecting machines over the last few years. We also get to learn a bit more about Josh’s marriage, how he and his wife met, and the role she even plays on the back end of the business. How they navigate balancing a work and personal life when the two are literally housed in the same building.

All this and more with the prouder extroidinaire. Also HUGE thanks to Alfonso Civille for recording the audio/video for this episode. Go check out his band, Heartsick, wherever you listen to music. Josh also produces that as well.
