    Ep. 20 #TheGlowDown Featuring Nora McInerny Feb 23, 2018
    Show notes

Are you one of the gazillions of podcast listeners already tuning into Terrible, Thanks For Asking? No, it’s not a beauty podcast, it’s a sad/funny/touching show hosted by Nora McInerny, an author and widow who tackles the human predicament about our struggles to grapple with, and talk to others about, loss and pain—awkwardness be damned. She’s a contributing life & love writer to Elle.com and she's even done a TedxMinneapolis talk, but what you may not know is that Nora McInerny is also a skincare-savvy former beauty publicist who we befriended on a press trip like, ten years ago.

And we were due for a good catch up, you know? Listen in to our somewhat gap-y Skype call (sorry, kids! #wifiproblems) and find out how TTFA was born out of McInerny’s first-husband’s death. Plus, we find out why the term self-care makes her cringe; get the scoop on her upcoming second book and all the Costco beauty buys worth driving out to the 'burbs for.

    Ep. 19 Invisibobble Co-Founder Sophie Trelles-Tvede Feb 07, 2018
    Show notes

Meet today’s version of the scrunchie, the Invisibobble! But you probably don’t need an introduction, you probably have one in your hair right now. Or maybe your daughter is wearing one of the telephone cord-looking hair holders, or your spin instructor, or that cute girl with the loose bun across the subway aisle. Last year, four million units of Invisibobble were sold worldwide, that’s eight spiral slinkies per minute. Now meet the inventor of The Invisibobble, Sophie Trelles-Tvede, who was an 18-year-old university student when she dreamed up the idea, fresh from a dorm party (been there!). The co-founder approached her friend, Felix Haffa, and with their combined savings of $4,000, launched a massive beauty brand. But just how did their ages work to their advantage? You may be surprised to hear that social media had zero to do with it. You might also enjoy hearing about the time that their ages definitely did not work in their favour during one of their early business deals (don't worry, they got theirs). Ep. 18 #TheGlowDown Ft. Jean Godfrey June, Beauty Director Of Goop Jan 24, 2018
    Show notes

Excuse us while we Fan Girl for a moment. When it comes to beauty editors, there's almost no one we hold in higher regard than Jean Godfrey June, the au naturel Beauty Director of Goop.com and former beauty director at Lucky Magazine. Her column at the latter outlet, called "The Beauty Closet" (who can forget those era-defining illas?), earned maximum respect for its just-between-us-BFFs writing style at a time when meaningless magazine-speak was very much the norm. She earned a devoted following long before influencers were even a thing and we were so excited to get her into the studio to chat about which all-natural products she herself uses everyday, plus, tips on how to detox your beauty routine. (P.S. Goop by Juice Beauty is now available at Detox Market!) And we couldn't let her go without finding out what it's like to work with the Gwyneth Paltrow on a daily basis, including what the actress-cum-beautypreneur wore for their beach-side job interview! Ep. 15 Smashbox Cosmetics Co-Founder Davis Factor Dec 06, 2017
    Show notes

When your great grandfather invented the term “makeup” as an Oscar-winning makeup artist during Hollywood's golden age, you start a makeup line. That’s exactly what Davis and Dean Factor did when they started Smashbox Cosmetics in Los Angeles in 1996, having grown up around the legendary cosmetics empire, Max Factor. But it wasn’t a clear path for the Hollywood playboys (heli-skiing, anyone?). Davis took to photography and Dean studied business before they formed Smashbox studios in L.A., where everyone from Angelina Jolie to Jack Nicholson have struck poses. Just how did a happening photo studio lead to a makeup line though, best known for its famous Photo Finish Primer sold every 1.8 seconds around the world? (Hint: Madonna's makeup artist, the late Paul Starr, may have something to do with it.) Plus, listen in to hear who’s surprisingly the best in the business to work with, and who Davis had the unfortunate luck of plowing down head-on in the studio hallway. And, we get the low down on what Davis has up his sleeve next—a business venture that strays from the world of cosmetics... Over 20 years old, Smashbox is still a top seller in stores even as the Colour Pops, Anastasias and Urban Decays keep growing. (Fun fact! Max Factor was the first brand to sell makeup in drugstores, did ya know??) How do they keep the momentum going? We’ve got the insider insights, all on today’s Breaking Beauty. Ep. 14 #TheGlowDown Featuring Emma Guns, Van Der Pop And Lancome Le Teint Particulier Nov 15, 2017
    Show notes

Welcome to our latest episode of The Glow Down! We are so excited to chat with fellow beauty podcaster Emma Gunavardhana of The Emma Guns Show. This U.K. based former print editor started out at O.K. Magazine before venturing into the world of audio storytelling. She's a host with heart, covering topics from red lipstick (empowering or beauty myth?) to coping with panic attacks. We love how she brings us all the feels no matter what she's talking about! Find out what her most memorable celeb encounter was back when she was a baby beauty editor, and which red lippie won her #RedDread project. #oneredforall? We also give you the complete #GlowDown on the latest (and greatest?) custom foundation that's just landed in Canada: Lancôme Le Teint Particulier. How's it living up to the hype? And finally, what's the buzz on cannabis beauty? Carlene first wrote about this trend in The Coveteur a few months ago and this week we chatted with Odessa Paloma Parker, a Head of Content at Tokyo Smoke, a lifestyle brand with high end coffee, an elevated retail experience and its signature collection of smoking accessories and founder and CCO of Van der Pop, April Pride. Her hemp self-care line is just the tip of the next big beauty wave coming to a state or province near you?
