The Wiggles’ Biggest Fan Jul 20, 2022
    Show notes

In the lives of families with children with unique needs or disability, there are often (sometimes unusual) habits created to keep our kid safe, or calm, or to reduce sensory overload, pain, or unneeded difficulty. These little (or big) “staples” of daily life mean the world for families with children who have a disability. In this episode, Billie Short shares her gratitude for a staple of her household - one the Short family has held for 23 years. This is her story about a band that - if you’ve had kids - you just might recognize: The Wiggles.
Billie Short is a Certified Life Coach. She works with caregivers and her mission is to support caregivers and help them develop tools to care for themselves first and by doing so be better caregivers to those they love. She is also the We Are Brave Together Support Group Facilitator for the Long Beach/North Orange County area of California.

Today, Jessica and her guest share a conversation about what our kids need to hear. Whatever their ability, diagnosis, their struggle… on the hard, complicated days - what do they need to hear? In celebration of Father’s Day, Brave Together invites author, speaker, pastor and poet Jason Hague to share a letter to his son Jack, who has autism.

We all need heroes, and every mom who shares her story here is offering something heroic - in vulnerability, they hold up a mirror, a place we can go to witness parts of our own paths, and be reminded that we aren’t alone. This journey is hard. Whether it’s fellow moms in the trenches, or heroes of a totally different kind - we are surrounded by heroes giving us strength to look ahead.
Effie Parks of Once Upon a Gene Podcast shares her story today… about some of the things that one of her own heroes - Michael J Fox - taught her about staying rooted in the present - when the future feels like too much.
