Fighting Sin and Finding Freedom in Christ with Brad Wetherell Apr 27, 2026
    Show notes

In this episode, I’m joined by Brad Wetherell, senior pastor at a church in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, to talk about his book Saved to Sin No More: How Union with Christ Empowers a Life of Holiness.

We spend time unpacking what it really means to be united with Christ and how that truth speaks directly into our everyday experience of sin, guilt, and fear. Brad walks us through how Scripture frames the Christian life—not as striving in isolation, but as living out the reality of what has already been made true in Christ.

We also talk about why so many believers feel worn down in their fight against sin, where misunderstandings about sanctification often show up, and how union with Christ reshapes the way we think about growth, struggle, and obedience.

If you’ve ever felt stuck, discouraged, or unsure of what real spiritual growth looks like, this conversation points you back to the hope and freedom we have in Jesus.

    In this epsiode:

Finding the Courage to Grieve with Brittany Lee Allen Apr 13, 2026
    Show notes

In this episode of Bookish Talks with Lia, I’m joined by Brittany Allen, author, wife, and mother, to talk about her book Free to Weep: Finding the Courage to Grieve and Embracing the God Who Heals.

The last time Brittany was on the show, we talked about her book Lost Gifts. In this conversation, we turn to the topic of grief more broadly and what it looks like to walk through suffering honestly.

We talk about the messages many of us hear in hard seasons like “suffering is good” or “at least it could be worse,” and why those can leave us feeling confused or alone. Brittany helps us name the common lies we tend to believe about suffering and gently points us back to the truth of who God is.

Together, we discuss what it means to grieve well, how to hold both sorrow and truth at the same time, and the comfort of knowing that God is near to the brokenhearted. If you are walking through grief or want to better support someone who is, this episode offers thoughtful, biblical encouragement.

    In this episode, we cover:

    • Common misconceptions about suffering
    • What it means to “suffer well”
    • How God meets us in our grief
    • Supporting others in hard seasons
    • Creating safe spaces for honesty in the local church and friendships
