    38. Mort Mar 31, 2020
    Show notes

Bookworms! Just before we all had to be apart, we all got together to talk about Mort, the funny and fast-paced novel by Terry Pratchett.

First published in 1987, Mort is the fourth book in the Discworld series, and the first to focus on the character of death.

This is one of Ben's absolute favourite books, and it's the very first Pratchett novel for the rest of us, so we were super excited to talk about it. Find out who liked it, who didn't think it quite lived up to Ben's hype, and who described it as "delicious".

    Happy Listening!

    Mini Episode - Pet Cinema-Tary Jan 21, 2020
    Show notes

After reading our (very Christmassy) December book, Pet Sematary by Stephen King, we decided we simply had to see the movies as well. That's right, we watched BOTH the 1989 AND the 2019 film adaptations, and we have some things to talk about.

What was changed, what stayed the same, and WHAT THE EFF DOES EVERYONE HAVE AGAINST NORMA??!?

Find out in this bite-size movie mini.

    WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD

What to Read in January - Little Women by Louisa May Alcott Jan 12, 2020
    Show notes

We're starting the year with a classic, Bookworms, a classic movie tie-in that is.

For January we're reading Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott. This novel tells the story of four sisters growing up during the American civil war, and has been a favourite of many readers (and many podcasters on this very podcast) since it was published in 1868.

Enjoy this classic just in time for the new and critically acclaimed movie adaptation, and be sure to let us know which March sister you think each of us is. Someone has to be the Amy.

Happy reading! See you at the end of January!

    35. Pet Sematary Dec 30, 2019
    Show notes

It's holiday time, Bookworms, and we celebrated this festive season by reading... Pet Sematary by Stephen King. There's sort of some Christmas stuff in the book, guys, just go with it.

Find yourself a fluffy cat friend, and settle in for a chat about what Stephen King calls his "scariest book ever". See what we thought of this horror classic, how we think it compares to King's other books, and which one of us (Laura) was just a little *too* scared.

    Happy listening!

What to Read in December - Pet Sematary by Stephen King Dec 10, 2019
    Show notes

Bookworms, the holiday season is upon us once again, so we've decided to stick with tradition, and read a Christmas Book!

    *record scratch*

That's right, we're reading that well-known Christmas classic, Pet Sematary by Stephen King.

Look, it was on a list of Christmas Books, and we've never read horror for the podcast before, so we're doing it.

Released in 1983, Pet Sematary follows the Creeds, a family who have just moved from Chicago to small-town Maine. Near their new house, local children have created a cemetery for the dogs and cats killed by the steady stream of transports on the busy highway that runs past their yard.

Stephen King still considers this his most frightening book ever (gulp), so find out why, and then come and see what we thought about it at the end of December.

    Happy reading!

    34. The Farm Nov 30, 2019
    Show notes

Bookworms, it's time to secure your tracking bracelet - sorry I mean your "Well Band" - because we're about to dive into The Farm, the debut novel by Filipino American author Jane Ramos.

Set inside Golden Oaks, a baby farm in Massachusetts where women (especially immigrants) serve as surrogates for super-wealthy clients, The Farm reads not so much as dystopia, but as a plausible next step on our capitalist journey.

With a super interesting premise, and a whole lot of buzz, we were very excited to read this one. Come and find out what we thought was good, what we thought was missing, and what we thought of Ben's emoji choice.

    Happy Listening!

Mini Episode - The Goldfinch on the Silver Screen Nov 22, 2019
    Show notes

After one of our most tense book reviews (Laura and Fiona are finally speaking again, thank goodness), we went to see The Goldfinch movie. And we have some thoughts!

Whether you've already seen it or you're wondering if you should, this episode will tell you everything you need to know. It will also tell you how many times Laura cried when Nicole Kidman was on screen (spoiler: all of the times).

    Happy listening!
