After hitting the buffet of football that is the NFL Draft all weekend, it’s time for a little dessert. The Packers have signed a dozen undrafted free agents and it’s time to take a few minutes and get to know them.

The Packers go defense again, selecting Iowa edge rusher Lukas Van Ness with their first pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. What should we think of the pick? And more importantly, how does the Packers’ new pass rusher fit with what they’ve got already?

We’ve talked through all the prospects. We’ve tried to figure out who’s going to be good and who’s going to be bad. We’ve discussed who fits what the Packers like to do. There’s just one thing left: predicting how this whole thing is going to play out.

We finish off our NFL Draft preview with a look at the wide receivers in this year’s class that could be a fit for what the Packers are looking for. Does it align with their needs? And when should they take one?

Tight ends! The Packers need one at least, and may need two. Fortunately, there is an abundance of talent at the position in this year’s draft. Let’s talk about it!

It’s time to take a look at this year’s cornerback class. This is another spot where the Packers don’t technically have a need, but it wouldn’t hurt to invest either. Where do they pull the trigger?

It’s never a bad idea to take an offensive lineman. It’s one of the most body-heavy positions on a football team’s roster. And if the Packers want to go that direction in this year’s draft, there are a lot of interesting options, especially in the interior.

There are a lot of interesting defensive line prospects in this year’s draft, which should be good news for the Packers. They definitely need help up front.

The Packers have an enormous, obvious, incredible need at safety. It might be the weakest position on the entire roster, with the possible exception of tight end. Is there anybody in this year’s draft that can fix things?
The Packers’ GM and head coach both weighed in on the Packers’ offseason at the NFL’s annual meetings. Gutekunst had a lot to say about Aaron Rodgers, while LaFleur touched on Jordan Love, the future of the Packers’ secondary, and other things the Packers need to do to get ready for the 2023 NFL season.
We’re changing our methodology a little bit as far as how we’ll approach the NFL Draft, pulling our prospect list from the inimitable Mock Draft Database and talking through the top prospects.
For each position group moving forward, we’ll talk about every player at that position within the top 200. Why the top 200? That should take us through every player who’s likely to be picked before about the middle of the 6th round or so, and if you’re going much later than that, chances are you won’t be a big NFL difference-maker anyway.
As far as the other criteria, here’s what we’re looking for as far as identifying key prospects: Relative Athletic Score of 8.0 or higher, a coverage grade from Pro Football Focus of 70 or higher in their final college season, and 20 or more career ballhawks (our combined metric of sacks, interceptions, passes defensed, and fumbles forced).
So who are the top safeties in this year’s draft? And how do they stack up with our metrics? Here’s the list we talked about, along with their positions in the consensus mock draft:
