Episode 31: Frankenstein Created Woman Sep 12, 2022
    Show notes

This week is the show's first Hammer film, Frankenstein Created Woman! From wiki: "Frankenstein Created Woman is a 1967 British Hammer horror film directed by Terence Fisher. It stars Peter Cushing as Baron Frankenstein and Susan Denberg as his new creation. It is the fourth film in Hammer's Frankenstein series. Where Hammer's previous Frankenstein films were concerned with the physical aspects of the Baron's work, the interest here is in the metaphysical dimensions of life, such as the soul's relationship to the body."
But first! Dead Boy Detectives wraps and Drusilla wears Vivienne Westwood bare tits shirts to the reunion. Updates on the vintage jaguar and Cult of the Lamb. Little Demon on FX/Hulu. Drusilla rewatched Brian de Palma's Femme Fatale. The duo goes down an emotional rabbit hole on female heists and Muppets. They also play fuck/marry/kill with Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, and Vincent Price.
Next week's film: The Neon Demon

    Show notes

    Happy Labor Day!
This week Josh and Drusilla go down under for the Australian banger, Next of Kin. From Wikipedia: " Next of Kin is a 1982 Australian horror film co-written and directed by Tony Williams, and starring Jackie Kerin and John Jarratt.[2][3][4] The film was featured in the documentary Not Quite Hollywood where it was praised by Quentin Tarantino.[5]"

Next week's movie is Hammer's Frankenstein Created Woman.

This week the girls are joined by very special guest, Dread Central and Nightmare on Fierce Street's Sharai Bohannon, who brought the incredible Korean horror film The Wailing on to talk about. From Wikipedia: "The Wailing (Korean: 곡성; Hanja: 哭聲; RR: Gokseong) is a 2016 South Korean horror film written and directed by Na Hong-jin and starring Kwak Do-won, Hwang Jung-min, Chun Woo-hee. Episode 28: Messiah of Evil Aug 22, 2022
    Show notes

This week Joshua and Drusilla watch an underseen 70’s bop, Messiah of Evil. From Wikipedia: "Messiah of Evil (later also shown under the title Dead People) is a 1973 American supernatural horror film co-written, co-produced, and co-directed by Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz, and starring Marianna Hill, Michael Greer, Anitra Ford, Royal Dano, and Elisha Cook Jr. Its plot follows a woman who travels to a remote coastal town in California to find her missing artist father; upon arrival, she finds herself in the midst of a series of bizarre incidents."

But first! A lengthy debate over takeout, hot sauce, and pickles, which Josh edits out! But Drusilla watched an Amicus film, The Beast Must Die. This ties nicely into Josh’s movie, Creepshow, and the duo debates about which story should have been cut.

Other movies discussed: Dead of Night, the 70’s Tales from the Crypt, Creepshow 2, The Ruins, the 70s Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Little Shop of Horrors.

Next week: The Wailing with a very special guest!

    Show notes

Wow! The 25th episode of Bloodhaus! Six whole months! This week the duo does their first double feature: Suspiria (1977) and Suspiria (2018). But first, they talk Jordan Peele's NOPE and sexy, sexy Burt Reynolds.
From Wiki: "Suspiria (Latin: [sʊsˈpiːri.a]) is a 1977 Italian supernatural horror film directed by Dario Argento, who co-wrote the screenplay with Daria Nicolodi, partially based on Thomas De Quincey's 1845 essay Suspiria de Profundis. The film stars Jessica Harper as an American ballet student who transfers to a prestigious dance academy but realizes, after a series of brutal murders, that the academy is a front for a supernatural conspiracy. It also features Stefania Casini, Flavio Bucci, Miguel Bosé, Alida Valli, Udo Kier, and Joan Bennett, in her final film role. It is recognised as one of the most influential films in the horror genre. It served as the inspiration for a 2018 film of the same title, directed by Luca Guadagnino.

    Episode 24: Frankenhooker Jul 25, 2022
    Show notes

This week Joshua and Drusilla watch the classic film by Frank Henenlotter's Frankenhooker. From Wikipedia: "Frankenhooker is a 1990 American black comedy horror film directed by Frank Henenlotter. Very loosely inspired by Mary Shelley's 1818 novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, the film stars James Lorinz as medical school drop-out Jeffrey Franken and former Penthouse Pet Patty Mullen as the title character."
But first! Josh goes to a horror legend's wedding, Drusilla attends a witchy book launch, and Drusilla watched Baz Luhrman's Elvis and Jack Be Nimble, a forgotten Alexis Arquette film that she loved. They briefly discuss the various Arquettes before Josh gets into Fast Times at Ridgemont High and full dong before going in on The Beaver Trilogy.
Then they get into the feature and its troubled history. Both absolutely adore the film and have a history with it. They discuss some of Frank Henenlotter's other films. The movie has an innocence about it despite being transgressive. They discuss Louise Lasser and the brilliant performances of Patty Mullen and James Lorinz. Josh does a dramatic reading. Super crack does not go undiscussed, nor do the various MPAA issues. Then the duo plays Have You Seen It?
Next week is a special episode. For the 25th show, Bloodhaus is doing its first double feature: Suspiria (1977) and Suspiria (2018).

    Episode 23: The Lure Jul 18, 2022
    Show notes

This week Josh and Drusilla discuss 2015's Polish horror mermaid musical, The Lure. From Wikipedia: "The Lure (Polish: Córki dancingu, lit.'Daughters of Dancing') is a 2015 Polish horror musical film directed by Agnieszka Smoczyńska. It tells of two mermaids who emerge from the waters and perform in a nightclub. One falls in love with a man, and gives up her tail, but loses her voice in the process. The story is a reworking of the 1837 fairy tale "The Little Mermaid" by Hans Christian Andersen, with inspiration from Smoczyńska's experiences. After a Polish premiere, the film screened at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival and Fantasia Film Festival, to mixed reviews."
But first! Drusilla hates Raging Bull and Josh being dumb about Scorsese. The apartment that the Last Temptation of Christ bought, God Told Me To, Watcher, The Tenant, and more. Then they get into the feature, which they both love. They discuss its release and distribution by Janus, how it doesn't feel like the 80s, the immigration allegory vs the trans allegory, Dru compares it to Cat People, the terrible things we do for dick, the politics of aging and beauty, Josh hates dolphins, more Cat People and the Czech film Daisies.
When Josh brings up Hedwig and the Angry Inch, the pair get into problematic trans narratives in film which covers Silence of the Lambs, Dressed to Kill, She-Man, and Dog Day Afternoon. Then they wrap up with Have They Seen It?
    Next week's movie is Frankenhooker.

Episode 22: Lips of Blood (w/special guest Steak Mtn aka Christopher Norris) Jul 11, 2022
    Show notes

This week Drusilla and Josh are joined by the legendary Steak Mtn aka Christopher Norris. Steak Mtn is the graphic designer behind legendary punk bands like Against Me! and others and is the author of Hunchback '88. He's also a hardcore punk musician and sometimes porn director. Steak brought the gang Jean Rollin's Lips of Blood. From Wikipedia: "Lèvres de Sang (English: Lips of Blood) is a 1975 French horror film directed by Jean Rollin. The film tells the story of a man who begins to have visions of a young woman dressed in white who is locked behind the gates of a château.[1][2] The director was "forced" to shoot the hardcore version as well under the title Suce Moi Vampire.[3]"
But first! Black Phone, the theaters of New York City, Belladonna of Sadness, X, and Ti West, the remakes of the 2000s, Ticket of No Return and Ulrike Ottinger. Movies getting porn films wrong.
Then the gang gets into the feature and the work of Jean Rollin, who made tons of erotic horror movies in the 70s as well as hardcore porn. Steak Mtn saw these in the 90s and they struck a chord with him. Josh loves that this begins at a perfume launch party and how pretentious it is. Goofy fangs. How much of the movie is just vampires walking? A lot! And so what. Drusilla compares it to the Spanish film Count Dracula's Great Love. The movie has a secret cabal storyline that's a little weird, but it has great weird interiors, too, so it evens out. Dario Argento comes up a lot. There's a Jean Rollin film INSIDE this Jean Rollin film. The ending is so beautiful and romantic. But is it incest?
Next week's movie is a Polish mermaid horror musical, The Lure.
