Behind Enemy Lines: Keita transfer links, Hodgson goodbye and ex-Anfield contingent seeking to spoil Liverpool's Champions League bid May 23, 2021
    Show notes

Liverpool know a victory over Crystal Palace today will almost certainly be enough to seal qualification for the Champions League - and 10,000 fans will be inside Anfield to cheer them over the line. So is there anything that Palace and their departing manager Roy Hodgson can do to stop the Reds? To answer that question, Matt Addison speaks to comedian, writer and Eagles fan Kevin Day for the final Behind Enemy Lines podcast of the season. They discuss all the big talking points heading into the big game, including the decision of Hodgson to call time on his Palace career after the meeting at his former club. There are plenty more Liverpool links in the Palace side, too, with Christian Benteke, Mamadou Sakho and Martin Kelly among their ranks. And, as Day explains, the form of Benteke is something Nat Phillips and Co will have to be wary of this afternoon.

Analysing Anfield: Thiago Alcantara stepping up at perfect time – and his form is just the start May 22, 2021
    Show notes

Stand-in host Guy Clarke joins Josh Williams for the latest edition of Analysing Anfield to assess the 3-0 win at Burnley, and the starring roles played by Nat Phillips and Thiago Alcantara, and preview Liverpool’s final game of the season at home to Crystal Palace. Win that one and the Reds will almost certainly book their place in next season’s Champions League. But after a testing campaign, do the underlying numbers suggest they would deserve that? Josh digs deep into the statistics to answer that question as well as going in-depth on Phillips and Thiago, who along with Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah, have been the driving forces behind Liverpool’s late-season resurgence. It’s a resurgence that would be capped with victory over Palace on Sunday. The Eagles have little to play for, but in what will be Roy Hodgson’s final match in charge, who could pose a threat to Jurgen Klopp’s top-four chasing side? Enjoy.

    Show notes

Paul Gorst, Joe Rimmer and David Lynch join Guy Clarke for the final Blood Red podcast of the season as they preview Liverpool v Crystal Palace and discuss all the big Anfield talking points. Victory over Palace on Sunday would all but certainly secure Liverpool’s place in next season’s Champions League. But who are the players who have brought Jurgen Klopp’s side back from the brink? The panel pick out the likes of Mohamed Salah and Thiago for praise before turning their attention to Gini Wijnaldum and Ozan Kabak, whose Reds futures look uncertain going into the last game of the campaign. Also on the agenda is Roy Hodgson, whose return to Liverpool this weekend will mark his final match in charge of Palace, plus the boardroom move at Anfield that will see supporters have more of a say. And, of course, there’s the usual team and score predictions. Enjoy.

The match sees the return of 10,000 supporters to Anfield with Klopp having a message to those lucky enough to attend the final game of the season. The Liverpool boss answers that as well as fielding questions about Gini Wijnaldum, for whom it could be his last game for the club, given his contract is set to expire in the summer.

Poetry in Motion: Nat Phillips, Thiago, a goal from heaven, and the other reasons for Liverpool’s remarkable late-season surge May 20, 2021
    Show notes

Neil Fitzmaurice is joined by Paul Gorst and Sean Bradbury for a positively upbeat edition of the Poetry in Motion podcast. Recorded the morning after the 3-0 win over urnley which moved Liverpool into fourth place with one game to play, and extended their unbeaten run to nine matches, Fitzy asks his guests just what are the reasons for this remarkable last-season surge that should secure Champions League football? Fabinho, Nat Phillips and a settled defence is one area discussed, as is the return to goalscoring form of Roberto Firmino, the growing influence of Thiago, and the significance of the victory at Old Trafford. But that 4-2 win over Manchester United was superseded by what happened at the Hawthorns at the weekend when Alisson sealed an extraordinary three points over West Brom by becoming the first Liverpool goalkeeper in the club's history to score a goal. Fitzy, Gorsty and Joe revel in that incredible moment before looking back on the Burnley success, which included a goal for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, as well as asking what's happening with Naby Keita, and anticipating a crazy decision from Gareth Southgate over Trent Alexander-Arnold. Enjoy.

The Agenda: Harry Kane wants to leave Tottenham - should Liverpool be in the conversation? May 19, 2021
    Show notes

Harry Kane will reportedly push to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer. But should Liverpool be interested in a transfer? And how might the England captain moving elsewhere impact the Reds? On the latest episode of The Agenda, Matt Addison is joined by Theo Squires to discuss the implications that Kane moving on from Tottenham might have, with PSG, Manchester City and Manchester United among the clubs who can realistically afford him. Like when Neymar increased valuations with his 2017 move to PSG from Barcelona, the first big transfer of this summer will set the precedent for price-tags in a post-pandemic transfer market world. So whether it is possible Kane could move to Liverpool or not, Michael Edwards will be watching closely.

Liverpool's Champions League qualification permutations after Chelsea 2-1 Leicester May 18, 2021
    Show notes

Liverpool will likely need to win both of their remaining Premier League fixtures in order to qualify for the Champions League after Chelsea beat Leicester City 2-1 at Stamford Bridge. That leaves Liverpool (on 63 points having played 36 fixtures) three behind Leicester and four behind Chelsea (who have both played 37 times), with the Reds facing Burnley on Wednesday night and then Crystal Palace on the final day of the season. Matt Addison joins Guy Clarke to run through what the result means for Liverpool - with goal difference also now a major factor - as the Reds seek to safely see themselves over the line in the race for the top-four spots.
