Road to Istanbul: Anfield errupts as Luis Garcia's 'ghost' goal sends Reds to Istanbul May 03, 2020
    Show notes

Luis Garcia: Liverpool folklore. His impact on the Reds' run to Istanbul was already clear to see with goals against Bayer Leverkusen and of course his starring role in the quarter-final against Juventus. Yet, on 3rd May 2005 he would imprint his name into Liverpool legend forever more with the only goal in the semi-final second leg against Chelsea. Join Guy Clarke and Dan Kay as they look back on the game as the Reds took the final step to their first European Cup final in 20 years. Rafa v Jose, Garcia's 'ghost goal' and the sub-plot of Chelsea's intense interest in Steven Gerrard all feature. Enjoy.

Tale of Robert Kraft, the man who almost bought Liverpool twice, and his Boston rivals FSG May 02, 2020
    Show notes

Paul Wheelock is joined by Ollie Connolly of the Liverpool.com website to tell the tale of Robert Kraft, the man who almost bought Liverpool twice, and his Boston rivals FSG, who did become the owners of a club they have taken back to the top of world football. Ollie talks about the differences between Kraft, the owner of the hugely successful New England Patriots NFL team, and FSG, who have created American sporting history of their own with the Major League Baseball team Boston Red Sox, and why Liverpool fans should be grateful events turned out the way they did after the despised Tom Hicks and George Gillett were forced out of Anfield. Ollie also looks at FSG’s Reds reign, their appointment of Jurgen Klopp and the infrastructure they have put in place behind the scenes, and what the end game could be for John Henry and Co, with a surprising answer.

Liverpool vs Atletico Madrid question explored as concerns grow Apr 30, 2020
    Show notes

We have a Blood Red podcast with a difference for you as Sean Bradbury is joined by the Liverpool ECHO’s political editor Liam Thorp to explore the concerns that have grown on Merseyside following the Champions League match between Liverpool and Atletico Madrid at Anfield on March 11. Despite growing fears around coronavirus in England, the match was allowed to be played in front of 52,000 supporters – which included around 3,000 travelling fans from Madrid, where at the time the virus was rife and where gatherings of more than 1,000 people had been banned. It is impossible to answer whether the match – the last major football game to be staged in England before the country went into lockdown – led to the significant spread of coronavirus in Liverpool. But what Liam, who has covered this story extensively, taking it even to Downing Street, can answer, is what the thought-process was of the authorities before the match, and how it has changed since. He also talks about the investigation launched by Liverpool City Council into the game – and the response he got when he put the concerns felt by many on Merseyside about it to the government. It was a response that made back-page national news.

Analysing Anfield: Alex Teixeira, Mario Gotze, Nabil Fekir | Bullets dodged or ones that got away? Apr 29, 2020
    Show notes

From Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, Liverpool have been lauded for plenty of their transfer business. But under the management of Jurgen Klopp, the Reds have in fact missed out on a number of ‘reported’ targets they were chasing before turning attentions elsewhere. Alex Teixeira, Julian Brandt, Ben Chilwell, Mario Gotze, Piotr Zielinski, Mahmoud Dahoud, Jorginho and Nabil Fekir are some of the more public pursuits. And Josh Williams and David Hughes look through the data to work out whether those players would’ve worked at Anfield, or if they’re better off without. Enjoy.

Red Memories: Emile Heskey on his Anfield stay and the forgotten strike partnership with Nicolas Anelka Apr 28, 2020
    Show notes

Since the turn of the Millennium, Liverpool have gone close to delivering an elusive 19th league title on a number of occasions. Whilst 2019, 2014 and 2009 all stick in the memory, back in 2002 the Reds were embroiled in a three-horse race until the final weeks of the season. To look back on that, his time under Gerard Houllier at Anfield, the Treble in 2001 and his perhaps forgotten strike partnership with Nicolas Anelka, former Reds forward Emile Heskey catches up with Guy Clarke for our latest podcast. Plus they delve into the current issues around how players will be maintaining themselves during the break from action. Enjoy.
