Blood Red: Watch out Premier League, Liverpool are about to get even stronger Dec 21, 2020
    Show notes

After Liverpool destroyed Crystal Palace over the weekend, there was more good news this morning as Virgil van Dijk was seen back training with a ball as his rehab continues. Matt Addison is joined by Ian Doyle, Paul Gorst and Theo Squires to discuss the Dutchman and the 7-0 win at Selhurst Park, as well as what the imminent return of Thiago Alcantara, Xherdan Shaqiri and James Milner, who could all be back in team training this week, could mean for the Reds. Also on the agenda is Mohamed Salah, who today was voted the inaugural Fans' Footballer of the Year, while Liverpool were last night well-represented at the Sports Personality of the Year, with Jurgen Klopp winning the coach's award and Jordan Henderson placed second in the main award to Lewis Hamilton. Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita, Sadio Mane and Fabinho also get a mention after an excellent few days for the Premier League leaders.

Blood Red: Mohamed Salah crowned the inaugural Fans’ Footballer of the Year Dec 21, 2020
    Show notes

Kristian Walsh is joined by Paul Gorst and Matt Addison to announce the winner of the inaugural Fans’ Footballer of the Year... Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah. Football journalists from across Reach PLC – the company behind Blood Red and the Liverpool ECHO – recently picked their top Premier League players of 2020. And after counting the votes, the shortlist was whittled down to seven players – four of which play for the champions, Liverpool. Salah was joined on the shortlist by team-mates Jordan Henderson, Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk, plus Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne, Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish and Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford. Supporters have then spent the past 10 days voting for the winner, which today can be revealed as Salah. And which, in this special Blood Red podcast, gives Kristian, Gorsty and Matt the chance to look back on a quite incredible year for Anfield’s Egyptian King. Enjoy.

The Agenda: Liverpool is the best place for Mohamed Salah amid Real Madrid/Barcelona transfer question Dec 20, 2020
    Show notes

Liverpool capped off an excellent few days with an emphatic 7-0 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday, with Mohamed Salah coming off the bench to score twice and provide an assist for Roberto Firmino's second. Earlier in the day, though, there were quotes that emerged from Spanish outlet AS, who spoke exclusively with Salah earlier this week. In that interview, the Reds superstar spoke about wanting to break records with Liverpool, but also didn’t rule out a possible move to Real Madrid and Barcelona in the future. "We never know what is going to happen in the future,” he said. “I think Madrid and Barcelona are top clubs.” Dan Kay joins host Matt Addison to talk through those comments - and explain why moving away from Anfield would make no sense for Liverpool's Egyptian King.

Post Game: Crystal Palace 0 Liverpool 7: Reds hit magnificent seven as they fire ominous warning to rest of Premier League Dec 19, 2020
    Show notes

Welcome to the Post-Game podcast to react to Crystal Palace 0 Liverpool 7 (SEVEN). The victory was the biggest the Reds have ever recorded in the Premier League; It moved them six points clear of Tottenham Hotspur, who are now actually third after Everton beat Arsenal in the early evening game, and it showed, without a shadow of a doubt, why Jurgen Klopp's men are once again the team to beat this season. You will hear plenty of plaudits across the course of this podcast from our regular fan callers, but we start at Selhurst Park, with Klopp's post-match press conference in full, and firstly, the verdict of the Liverpool ECHO’s chief LFC writer, Ian Doyle.

Poetry in Motion: The Curtis Jones secret is out and the terrifying title talk that must inspire Liverpool to do it all over again Dec 18, 2020
    Show notes

What a way to start your Friday as Neil Fitzmaurice is joined by Joe Rimmer and Matt Addison for the latest edition of his superb Poetry in Motion podcast. After a heartfelt tribute to Gerard Houllier, the much-loved Reds manager who passed away aged 73 this week, the trio get stuck into the draw with Fulham and the win over Tottenham Hotspur that took Jurgen Klopp’s champions back to the top of the table. There is a discussion about the progression of Rhys Williams and, in particular, Curtis Jones, as well as praise for Roberto Firmino, who made Tim Sherwood look silly when he gloriously headed in the winner against Spurs. And the merits of signing another centre-back is also brought up, especially when it is framed around real fears Fitzy and Joe have if Liverpool do not defend their title this season. Enjoy.

It’s the final Liverpool.com podcast of the year as Ollie Connolly and Mark Wakefield join Dan Morgan to talk the win over Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur, the brilliance of Curtis Jones, the games to come, and why Jurgen Klopp should buy a centre-midfielder, and not a centre-back, in the January transfer window.

Behind Enemy Lines: 'Incredible’ Kane, midfield ‘force of nature’ and the Liverpool-linked left-back proving to be 'superb' buy Dec 16, 2020
    Show notes

Ahead of tonight’s huge match, Matt Addison speaks to Football.London's Tottenham Hotspur reporter Alasdair Gold to get the lowdown on the visitors to Anfield and the team Jose Mourinho has taken to the top of the table. In Harry Kane, Spurs have a player looking more like Roberto Firmino every week that goes by, while Heung-min Son is benefiting greatly from his captain’s transition to a creator as well as a goalscorer. Along with Gareth Bale, Tottenham fans hope they have a trio to rival Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Firmino, and while they aren’t quite there yet, the quality of the individuals is clear. It’s also the case in the other areas of the pitch, where Sergio Reguilon, who Liverpool looked at before signing Kostas Tsimikas in the summer, has started life in north London in fine form. Tanguy N’Dombele, meanwhile, has turned a corner, making the midfield battle something to look forward to at Anfield for a Liverpool team still with a plethora of injury problems limiting their selection options (despite what Mourinho says). Enjoy.
