Houllier's Treble-Winners #7: Reds get first trophy in the cabinet as Owen shines in Rome Feb 28, 2021
    Show notes

Join Guy Clarke and Dan Kay for our latest instalment of Houllier’s Treble-Winners, our monthly podcast-series looking back on Liverpool’s incredible 2000-01 campaign. After almost six years of waiting, the Reds ended their trophy drought, 20 years ago this month, getting their hands on the Worthington Cup. So Guy and Dan reflect on the first leg of the historic treble, from Robbie Fowler’s role in Cardiff to the impact that the penalty shoot-out success over Birmingham City at the Millennium Stadium had on the careers of Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher. Plus, February 2001 was also the month the Reds booked their place in the UEFA Cup quarter-finals, seeing off would-be Italian champions AS Roma thanks to a Michael Owen brace in the Eternal City and a dramatic decision in the second leg at Anfield. Enjoy.

Matt Addison is joined by Five Yards co-founder Guy Rogers, who is an expert in all things scouting, analytics and transfers, to talk about a growing sector of the football market. With reference to Liverpool, of course, there is no better example to centre the chat around. The Agenda: Do we need to talk about Roberto Firmino? Feb 24, 2021
    Show notes

We need to talk about Roberto Firmino. The forward is not the only player who has been performing below-par of late for Liverpool, and is certainly not a scapegoat for their current predicament. But with his goals decreasing year on year and his overall play having regressed, what is the solution to the problem? Matt Addison and Kai Delaney take a look at Firmino's past, present and future, discussing the underlying numbers, the amount of games he has had to play this season, and how the return of Diogo Jota will help increase the Brazilian's capacity. Firmino is often described as being the entire 'system' for Liverpool, so getting him back to something like his best is vital. Long-term a new signing might be the answer, but short-term, that is not possible - and the Reds need Firmino firing if they are to make it back into the Champions League.
