Episode 86: Ginny Hogan v. A Twitter Psycho Jul 13, 2020

Show notes

Ginny Hogan (comedian, author) joins us for an episode that gets weirdly topical for BP, as John gets a COVID test and we dig into the very odd Wayfair conspiracy. And that's not the only conspiracy theory we dig into, folks. ToppingsGate once again rears its ugly head, as Ginny is forced to wade into the "are sauce and cheese pizza toppings?" debate and she presents a new angle that forces Stefan to dig that hole even deeper. Plus, the Blocked Boys find time to tackle John's Peep This Out video, Ginny's viral tweet, John's Jeopardy! tweet, and adult psychos who most definitely have COVID and attended Disney World anyway. And this is without mentioning Ginny's Block Tale, where a 70 year-old man lets loose on Twitter, follows her to email, and is just, well...a 70 year-old man online. It's a wild episode.

Speaking of wild episodes, if you want even more of this delicious content, you can subscribe to our bonus feed over at https://patreon.com/blockedparty, where $5/month gets you access to THREE tasty bonus episodes every single month. Of course, this week, we finally debuted John's long-awaited Peep This Out impression in a video episode called, "Take a Look at THIS!" to rave reviews (most people were disturbed by it), and we have a mailbag episode out this week with our pal Michael Hale from YKS. PLUS, we've got a Cameo bonus episode coming this month with some very special guests and it's gonna be a busy July for the BBs. $5 and it's all yours!

Ginny Hogan is an author and a comedian whose book, Toxic Femininity in the Workplace, is out now. You can follow her on Twitter at @GinnyHogan_.

Episode 85: Ike Barinholtz v. Jimmy John's Jul 06, 2020

Show notes

Ike Barinholtz (The Mindy Project, The Hunt) joins us for a rare double block against two monstrous human beings: the guy who owns Jimmy John's (makes bad sandwiches, bad guy) and Sebastian Gorka (eats a lot of sandwiches, bad guy), as neither one of these ghouls likes to be called out for being a ghoul, and Ike pays with a pair of blocks. The Blocked Boys learn quite quickly that Ike shares Stefan's affinity for Peep This Out, and the BBs tackle YouTube food reviewers, bad Cameos, the U.S. Army eSports team, weird pregnancy photoshoots, and Ike goes off on Kanye West.

If you want to feel like a VIP at Jackson Hole but don't wanna hang with Kanye, you can donate to the show at https://patreon.com/blockedparty, where $5/month gets you access to all of our exclusive bonus content, including, finally, THIS WEEK, John plays Ian K. as he eats his first-ever Big Mac and reviews it, Peep This Out-style. We've also got a Cameo episode with some very special guests coming up this month, as well as a mailbag and some other fun stuff! So head on over to our Patreon, as that $5 also unlocks our awesome and super fun Discord and all of our previous bonus content. It's a wild deal.

Ike Barinholtz is an actor whose latest movie, The Hunt, is streaming on-demand now. He can be found on Twitter at @IkeBarinholtz.

Episode 84: Brandon Ash-Mohammed v. His Family Jun 29, 2020

Show notes

Brandon Ash-Mohammed (comedian) joins the show for the first time right after hosting a virtual Pride Parade and the Blocked Boys learn a lot as they get into the TLC Tugger, Prince Alberts, and Brandon dons his "Gay Sorting Hat" to identify their status in the Gay community. Here's a spoiler: Stefan learns he's in a new category! The show also features a Block Tale that has its roots in France, as Brandon is forced to block his entire family on Facebook after sharing a racy ad. PLUS! Stefan has a busy week online with the Parler app and John introduces the show to Cheese Wife.

If you want to have a busy week online, you can donate to the show at https://patreon.com/blockedparty, where $5/month gets you access to THREE shiny bonus episodes every single month. We just released our live show with Cait Raft where we review the Canadian TV show Whistler, we did a Cameo episode earlier this month with Emma Wong, and coming up very soon: John eats his first-ever Big Mac and films a review of it, Peep This Out-style. You won't wanna miss it.

Brandon Ash-Mohammed can be found on Twitter at @BAMComedy1 and his brand-new album, Capricornication, can be found online at https://howlandroarrecords.com/brandon-ash-mohammed, where all profits go to BLM and queer charities in Toronto.

Episode 83: Chris James v. The Go Off Kings Jun 22, 2020

Show notes

Whether he's playing the triangle, the square, or the fiddle, Chris James (comedian, Not Even a Show) is always a fan favourite, and this episode is wild off the hop as some changed plans result in a remote episode with one of our closest friends. The Blocked Boys' familiarity with Chris results in a lot of one-upmanship in the beginning of the show as they piece together how Chris ended up on this episode, and we talk about Father's Day, Twitter mentions, Queensryche, and dunking on Conservatives. Of course, the real spice of the show happens with the Block Tale, as Chris, the unofficial "Fourth King", details the story of how he got blocked from the Go Off Kings' Twitch stream, and why Stefan was being unfair.

One way to ensure you never get blocked by us is to donate to the show at https://patreon.com/blockedparty, where $5/month gets you access to THREE bonus episodes every month and this month is a DOOZY. We recorded an all-new Cameo bonus episode with Emma Wong, we watched the trashy Canadian primetime soap opera Whistler with Cait Raft, and coming up soon, John eats his first-ever Big Mac in the style of Peep This Out. It's only getting wilder as we are introducing a brand-new series in July commissioned by a listener, and of course your donation gets you access to our entire back catalogue PLUS our Discord. It's gonna be a Blocked Boy Summer.

Chris James hosts the Twitch show No Prank Radio every Thursday/Sunday and is the host of the prank show Not Even a Show, airing every week on YouTube. He is on Twitter at @TheCJS.

Episode 82: Savannah Erasmus v. Her Ex Jun 15, 2020

Show notes

We're back in studio again and this time, everyone is here! We're joined by our first in-studio guest in three months, Savannah Erasmus (comedian), who has the most powerful block in the show's history, a flex that will be talked about for episodes to come. We also talk dating in quarantine, Paw Patrol, the Royal Family, The Last of Us 2, and John gets contracted to do a very strange gig. PLUS! We lay plans for a Dan-only episode and talk about the celebrities we had crushes on as kids.

If you want us to have a crush on you, you can donate to the show at https://patreon.com/blockedparty, where $5/month gets you access to THREE bonus episodes every single month (plus access to the whole back catalogue! That's like 50 episodes waiting for you right now!). This month is shaping up to be a doozy, as we already released another edition of our famous Word Up! series, where we review awful celebrity Cameos, and coming soon, John is finally going to eat his first Big Mac and we're gonna film it, Peep This Out-style. It's gonna be a good month, don't miss out.

Savannah Erasmus is a comedian and storyteller who produces the Millennial Line show and can be found on Instagram at @_notsavannah.

Episode 81: Alex Goldman v. Zappin_Liberals Jun 08, 2020

Show notes

The Blocked Boys are back, baby! In studio, that is. With the COVID restrictions in BC allowing social gatherings of up to 6, the BBs get together in the BPHQ Studio for the first time since March, and we haven't missed a beat. Well, we think, anyway. And who better to celebrate our return with than one of our most popular guests ever, the returning Alex Goldman (Reply All), who treats us to a lovely Block Tale as he gets blocked by some right-wing account called, and we are not making this up, @Zappin_Liberals. The BBs also have some time to talk childhood memories, New York Times op-eds, Boogie Cousins' best dunk, and the most cathartic moment of the Black Lives Matter/Defund the Police movement thus far.

If you're in search of more cathartic moments, you can donate to the show at https://patreon.com/blockedparty, where your money will get you access to three bonus episodes every month. This month, we've got a Cameo episode coming up AND John will finally film his tribute to Peep This Out!, as he tries his first Big Mac ever. Conversely, you could ignore all that and donate to a worthy cause in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, or a women's shelter in your area. If you have enough money to support those causes and us, wonderful. If you don't, I think we all know where your money should go, and it isn't to us.

Alex Goldman is the co-host of the podcast Reply All and you can look for his new project, The Scaredy Cat Horror Show, out now on Spotify. He can be followed on Twitter at @AGoldmund.

Episode 80: Grace Spelman v. Kevin Spacey Jun 01, 2020

Show notes

In an episode that was recorded a week ago and thus feels like it was recorded eons ago, Grace Spelman (writer, musician) joins the show to talk about being blocked by Kevin Spacey, but not for any of the reasons you'd suspect. Call it serendipitous for Grace, given what we learned about Mr. Spacey after, but a very funny block nonetheless. As we said, this episode was recorded in what feels like a more breezy time, when the world was wracked by a devastating virus, and we find some time to touch on that as John shares one of the craziest COVID stories we've heard yet. The Blocked Boys also get into trips to Disney theme parks, video games, musicians we could beat up, and Stefan brings back "Real or Fake", but this time with Marilyn Manson quotes.

CW: This episode features a brief retelling of the Mr. Buckles story, which contains a story of animal death (no cruelty or violence). This story is told from 47:35-48:55, if you wish to avoid it.

You can also donate to our Patreon at https://patreon.com/blockedparty. We do bonus episodes there, it's fun. You could also instead donate to any one of the numerous worthy causes that need your help right now, whether it be for bailing protestors out of jail or supporting the Black/Indigenous community where you live. We stand with those communities and with those who are standing up in protests across the nation.

Grace Spelman's new show "That's My Jam" is coming out soon, and she can be followed on Twitter and Instagram at @GraceSpelman.

Episode 79: Charles v. John Podhoretz May 25, 2020

Show notes

Our one-named friend Charles (@Ugarles, Hostile Witness podcast) makes his show debut having an argument about religion with noted dumbass and bad Twitter guy John Podhoretz that follows the classic "I've lost this argument, so I will block you instead of admitting defeat" pattern, and it's a delight. Recording the episode a little earlier in the day than usual gets the Blocked Boys talking about coffee as Stefan ponders his new life in a gaming chair. The BBs also find time to talk about the MCU and Star Wars before the social media updates get truly wild and we get into sovereign citizen videos, the Armageddon commentary track, and Stefan has a surprise for John from an old friend.

We love old friends but we also love new friends, and if you want to be one of our new friends, you can donate to the show at https://patreon.com/blockedparty, where $5/month gets you access to THREE bonus episodes every single month. This month, however, we're stepping it up to FOUR in the name of content in the time of Covid. And it's sweet content too, as we get a Clara Jeffery block trifecta on a bonus episode with Street Fight Radio's Bryan Quinby, and coming up this week, we debut our brand-new episode type HIGH FIVERR, where we look at all the worst things the gig commerce website Fiverr.com has to offer. We have even bigger plans for June, so you won't wanna miss it!

Charles is the host of the Hostile Witness podcast and can be followed on Twitter at @Ugarles.

Episode 78: Ashley Feinberg v. Lena Dunham May 18, 2020

Show notes

Ashley Feinberg (writer) makes her first appearance on the show a memorable one, as she gives us one of the best Block Tales of all-time, a block that starts in the emails and ends up on Twitter as she questions Lena Dunham's weird relationship with her pets. Speaking of weird relationships, John tells Stefan and Ashley about the dream he had the night before involving the podcast and Phoebe Bridgers, amidst reminiscing on the childhood game of jinx. The BBs also manage to find time to tackle Ron Jeremy saving a tree, Brendan Fraser, Stefan pranking Your Kickstarter Sucks using Animal Crossing, and an r/relationships post involving roleplay.

If you want to roleplay as an extremely cool person, you can do so by donating to the show at https://patreon.com/blockedparty, where $5/month gets you access to a bunch of delightful bonus goodies including access to our Discord and THREE bonus episodes every month. And hell, this month, we're doing FOUR bonus episodes because of quarantine times, with two already posted--a mailbag with Producer Dan and our live show with Will Weldon--and two to come, including one with Street Fight Radio's Bryan Quinby this week and another that will debut a brand-new bonus episode type, all about the website Fiverr. It's gonna be a big month and you don't wanna miss it!

Ashley Feinberg is a writer for Slate known for her internet sleuthing and can be found on Twitter at @AshleyFeinberg.

Episode 77: Lydia Burrell v. Ryan Saavedra May 11, 2020

Show notes

Lydia Burrell (musician, comedian) joins the show and since Stefan failed to explain the concept of the show to him properly, delivers a litany of blocks including Steven Crowder and his own governor before concluding with his favourite, right-wing reporter Ryan Saavedra. LB just couldn't help pointing out to Saavedra that he resembles a certain reptile, and well...it goes from there. This episode is equally all over the place, as LB shares the worst COVID-19 parody songs from YouTube, Stefan shares the worst TV theme song of all-time and a thriller movie trailer with an unlikely star, and John tells a joke so heinous that we're forced to introduce a brand-new $500 Patreon tier for it.

You know what doesn't cost $500? A monthly donation to the show at https://patreon.com/blockedparty, where in fact just $5 gets you access to THREE bonus episodes every month, including this week's bonus episode where Producer Daniel makes his show debut in an exclusive mailbag episode where we answer YOUR listener questions! There are some shocking admissions and it gets truly crazy. Plus, the video bonus episode of Blocked Party TV with Will Weldon, and some more wonderful things are all coming up later this month! Join today!

Lydia Burrell hosts both a Twitch stream and radio show called "Big Howell and Possum", and his musical comedy can be found on YouTube. He is on Twitter at @LydiaBurrell.
