CubsPS+ #90: Jed’s Right, Wrong and Incomplete Oct 22, 2024

Show notes

Episode 90:

Welcome to episode 90 of the podcast! In this episode, I dive into what the Cubs need to do to turn their 83-win season into a playoff-contending 90-win team. I explore the concept of 90 wins as a target—something Craig Counsell and Jameson Taillon have both referenced—and how it almost always gets teams into the playoffs. I also reflect on what went right and wrong with the Cubs last season, Jed Hoyer’s comments, and how they need to be more aggressive this offseason.

Key topics include:

Why aiming for 90 wins is crucial for the Cubs’ future.
The importance of exceeding expectations and how it played out in Cubs' history, from Sandberg’s MVP season in '84 to Kerry Wood’s breakout in '98.
Why the Cubs need to be more aggressive in adding talent—be it through trades, free agency, or even internal development.
Evaluating Jed Hoyer’s cautious approach and whether it’s time for a shift in strategy.
Potential offseason moves, including big names like Juan Soto and Corbin Burnes, and how the Cubs can still improve their roster depth.

It’s time for the Cubs to aim higher, raise the bar, and make bold moves to build a championship contender. Enjoy the episode, and let’s get ready for an exciting offseason ahead!
