Ohio State's sudden awakening when it comes to using NIL the proper way has a lot of people on tilt. The Buckeyes are never quick to adopt something new but once the program has a minute to sort things out, it generally gets it right.

Big Stage, Big Ten, Big Deal? Oct 07, 2022

It’s the Big Me Kickoff and we are back to get you ready for another weekend of football. The Big Ten schedule this week is not the best with Rutgers and Nebraska set to kick things off on Friday night and the schedule really does not get much better than that moving forward.
We run through the list of who is set to play this weekend and while some of the lines are close, will the nation be tuning in?
Ohio State obviously is on the road this week after playing five games at home to open the season. This ain’t your big brother’s Sparty team however as Michigan State enters this game reeling from a three-game losing streak and looking seemingly lost on both sides of the ball.
People are focused on a six-game stretch between these two teams, but we will tell you why that is the outlier in terms of this series.

In this edition of the Big Me Kickoff, we turn our attention to the next game on the Ohio State schedule as Rutgers comes to town. The last two games in this series have been a little more competitive than the previous six but the margin between these two teams is still vast.
While all the headlines say that Iowa may have the worst offense in the Big Ten, Rutgers has a serious claim to that title and going against an ever-improving Ohio State defense coupled with the best offense in the nation, the prospects don’t look good.

Is this a better Badgers team or barely average? Sep 22, 2022

It is time for the Big Me Kickoff and we are heading behind enemy lines to get a little intel on Ohio State's upcoming opponent, the Wisconsin Badgers.
Wisconsin has been a bit of a difficult team to figure out as of late. Everyone expected Saturday night's game to be a battle of undefeateds up until the point that the Badgers dropped one against Washington State, an unexpected outcome.
Like past Wisconsin teams, the Badgers can run the ball among the best of them with a three-headed rushing attack, are we paying enough attention there? On the other side of things, Graham Mertz has never really quite lived up to his billing as a star quarterback, but could 2022 be his year? Things have looked good so far but we all know that non-conference schedules don't always paint a true picture.
On the other side of the ball, the Badgers defense is good as always but is there on unit that is a little more thin than people know? How good is Nick Herbig at linebacker and how is the line play?

Will the Rockets ignite against the Buckeyes? Sep 15, 2022

In this edition of the Big Me Kickoff, we are focusing in on the upcoming game with the Toledo Rockets. This in-state team has had success in past year knocking off major foes including the likes of Penn State, Michigan, Iowa State and other and in 2021 came oh-so-close to taking down Notre Dame.
Despite only being a couple hour car ride away from Columbus, what do we really know about the 2022 Rockets? We know that their schedule has been maybe even weaker than Michigan’s with games against LIU and UMass to date, but their level of competition takes a steep climb as they take on Ohio State on Saturday night under the lights at Ohio Stadium.
We are catching up with a long-time friend as Kyle Rowland of the Toledo Blade provides some more context into who the Rockets are, what they have accomplished and what their chances are in this one.

College football gets underway in two days and the Buckeyes are inside of 10 days from their season opener against Notre Dame as fall practice is wrapping up and game week is almost here. Zero interest in zero week or is any football good football? Aug 22, 2022

College football is back this week with the kickoff of “zero week” but do Buckeyes fans have zero interest in the slate of 11 games? We talk about that and more in this edition of the Big Me Kickoff.

Big Bucks top the TV airwaves and the polls Aug 19, 2022

In this edition of the Big Me Kickoff we are talking about the recently released AP Poll and should anything really be read into that at this point or if it is just more noise to start the season? Who has the Buckeyes ranked too low and does that really matter?

Sea to shining sea as the B1G reaches westward to nab a pair of powers Jun 30, 2022

The SEC may have had the first salvo in the next wave of conference expansion with the addition of Texas and Oklahoma but the Big Ten was laying in the weeds and on Thursday it was learned that USC and UCLA may be on the move. The news was first reported by Jon Wilner of the Pac-12 Hotline.
After Wilner went public with the news, many others did their own digging to confirm the reports as the two major powers of Southern California were well on their way to leaving for the Big Ten as early as the start of the 2024 season.
But what does this mean? Obviously, it moves the Big Ten to 16 teams, but could other teams be following, should they be? What does this mean for recruiting? What does this mean for all of the other aspects that surround expansion?
We give our way too early thoughts on this here on this edition of the Big Me Kickoff as we put conference expansion in the spotlight.

It was a wild night with trades, surprises and so much more as a pair of big-time receivers found themselves moving while six first-year receivers had their names called.

The West Is Not Best Apr 15, 2022

game, we are focusing on something entirely different.
This upcoming season will mark the 12th year of the Big Ten Championship Game in football and will be the ninth year of the current configuration of East versus West after three years of Leaders versus Legends.
It has been extremely one-sided since moving to a more geographical system with the East holding a perfect record of 8-0, Ohio State winning five titles during that run with Michigan State, Penn State and Michigan filling out the other wins by the B1G East.
As talks of College Football Playoff expansion are off-and-on, there has been talk about the importance of the championship game in the first place and if the game were to remain, potentially doing away with divisions all together and just having the top-two seeds meet in the championship game, even if that meant a rematch of say… Ohio State and Michigan.
Is the Big Ten West just worthy of a participation trophy when it comes to the B1GCG or is that too much of an East-centric view of things?
We bring in Jeffrey the Greek from the EyesOnB1G podcast to get his views on this matter. We mixed it up with him on social media a week ago and agreed that this issue needed to go to one podcast or the other to try and settle it.

Why the Big Ten title is not out of the question Feb 25, 2022

We are back with the Big Me Kickoff and while there is not much kicking in basketball, we are heading to the hardwoods to talk about Ohio State’s stretch drive in the Big Ten regular season. Ohio State finds itself only one game back in the loss column with four games left to go, four games that all should be winnable.
But then again, nothing has really been easy in the Big Ten this year, for any team as the Buckeyes will have to play those four games over the span of seven days.
What do the Buckeyes have left, why is winning at least three of the next four so important and could a Big Ten title be in the cards? It is not as far off as you may think.
Plus, what is with these social media rants that we have seen about how some Ohio State fans feel about Chris Holtmann’s job performance? We know we won’t change anyone’s minds, but I give my two cents about some pretty irrational comments that I have seen over the course of the season.

I’ve been everywhere, man Feb 11, 2022

In this edition of the Big Me Kickoff, to take a page out of Johnny Cash’s playbook, we’ve been everywhere. This job has its perks and getting to see road games is one of those perks, covering the Ohio State football team.
But we know that we are not the only ones who get to go on the road as Ohio State fans are known far and wide as some of the most dedicated fans when it comes to traveling with the team and turning road venues into their own versions of The Horseshoe.
So, as we are still months away from the season, it got us to thinking about the upcoming road schedule and venues like Penn State and Michigan State, among others.
Where have you been? Where would you like to go? Do you try and stay as close to the stadium as possible, or do you stay in the middle of all the action?

Is Eight Great? Best Foot Forward? Jan 28, 2022

It is the Big Me Kickoff show with Kevin Noon and we are talking about the latest happenings around the world of college sports. The Big Ten Conference may be looking at changing how it goes about doing things with a potential move to eight league games from nine and doing away with divisions. All of that comes from a report from The Athletic and we are here to talk about that. Do those moves put the Big Ten on a better footing in keeping up with the SEC or is it a case of making all the wrong moves?
Plus, the 2022 season is still months and months away but we know that Ohio State opens up against Notre Dame, a team without a conference (by choice) but still considered very much part of the Power Five. There was a day and an age where the Buckeyes would open up against Power Five (or the equal name of the time) to start the season. There was a good decade where Ohio State did not do that but now we see that becoming more of a regular thing. Is that something that we should expect moving forward?

Is NFL overtime unfair; Big changes mean huge gains; What’s lost? Jan 24, 2022

Here on the Big Me Kickoff, it was a wild weekend from the NFL ranks as we saw four playoff games all decided by one score or less. It would be easy to lament about the college season being over but there is plenty of time for that, how crazy were the games over the past two days?
Was Sunday night’s AFC game evidence that the NCAA overtime rules (at least the first and second periods) are superior to the NFL rules or does the old saying of, “Don’t put yourself in a decision to let a coinflip beat you” ring true. And was it really a case of a coinflip determining the game?
We jump back into Ohio State talk but talking about what kind of output changes we can expect making wholesale changes from one defensive staff to another by looking back at the last two times that Ohio State made major changes on that side of the ball to address slipping numbers.
And we are also looking at what kind out offensive output the Buckeyes are losing from the 2021 team to the 2022 team. Is the drop-off from the 2021 team better, worse or on-par with past seasons?

Can Ohio State make drastic coaching moves without upsetting losses? Jan 15, 2022

In this edition of the Big Me Kickoff, we take on a topic that might not sit well with everyone. Was Ohio State’s loss to Michigan necessary to make such sweeping changes to the coaching staff?
Sure, Ryan Day is the head coach and could make changes at any point as the leader of the team, but how much more difficult would it have been to do that if the Buckeyes were to make the playoffs once again with a win in the Big Ten Championship Game?
Everyone around Ohio State wants to beat Michigan and giving up a battle to win the war seems like a foreign idea and nobody for Ohio State was asked to lay down their arms.
But with the gift of hindsight, can you say that maybe it was not as much of a year-ruining event if Ohio State is able to get significantly better on defense due to these moves?

What’s new for 2022 as out with the old and in with the news Jan 11, 2022

Big Me Kickoff is here after a couple of weeks off (well, we were on everyone else’s shows) and a Happy New Year out there to all of our listeners. The College Football Playoff Championship Game was last night, and we have a new champion. Was it a great game or just a mediocre game with a couple of fun moments?
The Buckeyes finished No. 6 in the final AP poll of the season and that just continues the narrative that few teams have been as consistently good as Ohio State even if national championship trophies have remained elusive.
Who do I like to make the CFP in 2022-23? You better believe I have the Buckeyes in the mix but who else? I have two from the SEC, once again, but the second team may surprise you, as well as my fourth team.
Plus, plenty of changes with two new coaches (so far) for Ohio State football and a football schedule announcement coming up on Wednesday.

Talking Rose Bowl Dec 30, 2021

LOS ANGELES – We are closing in on 48 hours until the 2022 Rose Bowl and the first opportunity for Ohio State to address some questions and concerns that were brought up after a disappointing regular season finale against "that team up north".
There are varying amounts of excitement about Ohio State's game with Utah in the Rose Bowl but we are not buying for a second anyone's statements that "they don't care" or that they "are not watching the game" because we know that is just frustration talking.
What can we expect out of this game on Saturday? Will Ohio State's advantage in talent be the difference or will Utah's likely enthusiasm edge be the difference maker?
We know that Ohio State is going into this game with less than a full range of weapons with opt-outs, transfers portal names and other items taking 85 scholarships players down to the 60s. But you only play 11 at a time and generally games are not won because of players 65-85 on a roster in a year.
Will Ohio State have an answer for a tough Utah team that has taken over the Pac-12 with a physical style of play? Do the Utes have enough playmakers to outscore the Buckeyes? Do the Utes have the players to replicate the successes that both Michigan and Oregon showed against the Buckeyes over the course of this season?
Of course, we don't know any of this at this point and won't know until foot meets leather on January 1st and the game really gets going.

Will the B1G make a big impact in bowls? Dec 20, 2021

Big Me Kickoff is here, and we are looking at the Big Ten games for the upcoming bowl season. No, we are not talking about the Rose Bowl for Ohio State or the Orange Bowl for Michigan, there will be plenty of time for that as time goes on.
Instead, we are talking about the other games that start on December 28th and run through New Year’s Day. The Big Ten announced its all-league teams earlier this week and major award winners. Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud pulled off a feat never accomplished before but that apparently was not enough for the Walter Camp Award, snubbing the Ohio State quarterback from its list of finalists despite the league determining that Stroud was the best offensive player in the league.
And we even talk a little bit of basketball in this one. Ohio State came out and shocked college basketball and then-No. 1 Duke on Tuesday. What does that mean moving forward? BIA Ep. 68 – Bring On The Cats Dec 18, 2020

The Big Ten has made it to the finish line, barely. We are here on the eve of the Big Ten Championship Game and the Buckeyes and Wildcats are set to compete for a league crown as champions of their respective divisions.
The path for each of these teams have been very different however as the Buckeyes have run through their schedule putting up a bunch of points, maybe allowing a few too many as well as too many passing yards in second halves but then having to sit back and see if the league would alter a rule that would have prohibited the Bucks from competing for a league crown, despite having a head-to-head win over the second place team.
On the other side the Northwestern Wildcats have played close games, won with defense and have a game that nobody can quite explain where the Cats tripped up against a Michigan State team that really had no business competing with Pat Fitzgerald’s crew.
What happened over the past eight weeks will not matter once this game kicks off on Saturday at 12pm EST (FOX) and 60 minutes of football stand between Ohio State and its fourth consecutive Big Ten Championship or Northwestern’s first in quite some time.

BIA Ep. 67 - Unlikely But Bring On The Aggies Dec 08, 2020

COLUMBUS, Ohio – We are all still reeling from the news that “The Game” has been called off for this year and the Buckeyes are still looking for a dance partner for this weekend. There is a lot of significance when it comes to getting to six games for Ohio State, or any team in the Big Ten for that matter.
According to rules that are currently in place, there is no opportunity to be in the Big Ten Championship Game without having competed in at least six games, based on rolling averages of games played and things of that nature. That rule, like most things, could be subject to change but as of now, is still in place.
We don’t know who else may not be able to go in the Big Ten and if the Buckeyes will be able to find someone to play against this upcoming weekend to get to Indy to try and defend its crown as Big Ten Champion.
But it does bring up an interesting thought if the Buckeyes were able to go out of the league and find a non-conference opponent. A game last weekend between BYU and Coastal Carolina came together at the 11th hour and provided one of the more entertaining games of the season.
Texas A&M saw its game canceled against Ole Miss this week as the Mississippi program was dealing with its own COVID issues and now the Aggies would like to find someone to play as they sit outside of the top-four in the College Football Playoff rankings, strangely enough, just behind the Buckeyes who are No. 4 in those rankings.
We want to preface this whole discussion by saying that we are well aware that the league shot down Nebraska earlier this year when the Huskers’ game against Wisconsin was canceled and while the Huskers found an opponent, the league said that was not an option.
But what if this game was green-lit and allowed to happen?

BIA Ep. 64 – What Could Have Been Nov 13, 2020

The Buckeyes entered the 2020 season as heavy favorites to win the Big Ten season and has changes and alterations to the schedule took place as the conference had an on-again, off-again approach to things, the biggest fear for Ohio State fans was that COVID would be the biggest opponent in the grand scheme of things.
As we learned on Wednesday, COVID has taken a bite out of the Ohio State season but not at Ohio State’s fault as Maryland had to call off Saturday’s game with the Buckeyes due to concerns around the Terrapins program.
So now the Buckeyes will have a seven-game schedule, at best before a hopeful trip to the Big Ten Championship game. We will never know for sure what would have happened if the Buckeyes and Terps would have played but we caught up with our friend Scott Greene of Terrapin Sports Report to get his views on the Terps and what may have been if these two teams would have been able to meet in College Park. (Md.).
