Dispelling the "I'm Not (Doing) Enough" Myth 049 Feb 05, 2020
    Show notes

We all feel it... that awful, pervasive gnawing away at our daily peace by the feeling that we are never doing enough. Yet, despite the endless to-do lists and our best intentions to get more done and be even more efficient, we never seem to get ahead, right?

In this episode, we are going to talk about the four reasons we too often buy into the myth that we are not (doing) enough, the benefits of NOT believing it for both ourselves and for our students, and the first steps to take towards more peace and less anxiety in your teaching.

    Why I Left the Classroom 047 Jan 22, 2020
    Show notes

I grew up knowing that I wanted to be a teacher, and after more than 20 years in this profession, I now understand that although I eventually left the classroom, that didn't mean that I stopped being a teacher. Maybe you're wondering if you are going to be a "lifer" and stay with teaching your entire career, or if maybe teaching inside an elementary classroom may be a stepping stone for you for something else. This episode will help you to get clear about what it is you really want - and encourage you not to consider leaving the classroom until you've given this dream an honest, fair chance.

Narrative and Opinion Writing with Learning Experiments 044 Jan 01, 2020
    Show notes

What are "Learning Experiments," you ask?

Well, in my classroom, they were systematic and super-fun, small changes that my students and I made to our learning environment to create the conditions for optimal learning.

In plain English, that meant doing small things like working in different spaces around the classroom or changing the kinds of lighting we were using in our classroom to see how that impacted students' ability to focus.

These changes led to some pretty inspired writing for my students - so much so, that I decided I needed to create a writing unit for you that you can try in your classroom, too!
