One Miscarriage, No Children, Doctor of Oriental Medicine Helping Women with Hopi Wilder - S7 E28 Jul 24, 2024
    Show notes
    • I was happily going through life devoted to my career as a healer and

massage therapist. I then went back to school in my mid-thirties to get

my Masters in Oriental Medicine. Suddenly I started feeling the clock

ticking, even though I was extremely busy and did not have a partner

at the time. I had always been hesitant to bring a child into this world,

but did not want to miss out.

    • Five years later, I did end up getting married and carried a baby into

the end of the first trimester before I had a miscarriage. I was 42

years old. It was then that I learned for the first time that

miscarriages, especially in the first trimester, are extremely common. I

connected with many women who suffer this trauma silently.

    • Never-the-less, I was devasted. I started studying everything I could

about infertility and how to fix it. That is when I discovered the work of

Weston Price, a dentist in the 1930s. His ancestral, nutrient dense diet

was an integral part of cultivating a new, more wholistic approach to

how I view fertility and women’s health.

    • I ended up leaving my first marriage a year after my miscarriage. I

remarried and my second husband and I tried for a while. I was fully

into peri-menopause by my mid forties and I knew my body did not

want to have a child. We participated in two adoption trainings,

including Foster Care. In the end we chose a different path and we

both really enjoy being the “fun aunt and uncle” to our nieces and

    nephews. It takes a village.

    • I consider every illness or seeming mishap as an opportunity to study,

learn and then serve my patients from a heart centered perspective. I

really enjoy teaching about how to prepare your body for pregnancy as

a process similar to building the soil in the garden. Natural fertility

treatments are slower, yet much better for a woman’s body and for the

baby’s health. Seeing the babies I helped bring into the world at a

super market or farmer’s market is a really joyful reward.

I am a Doctor of Oriental Medicine practicing acupuncture and herbal

medicine in Reno, Nevada. I practiced massage for 15 years and

acupuncture for the last fourteen years. I specialize in relieving chronic pain,

optimizing hormones and digestion and women’s health. I enjoy doing

patient education and teach classes on qi gong, acupressure and nutrition.

Discussing ALL things Doula! TAKE 2 with Suzzie Vehrs - S7 E27 Jul 23, 2024
    Show notes

Suzzie came back on to discuss ALL things doula! Join us as we chat finances, time, contracts, standard of care, informed consent, family scheduling, etc…

Hi I'm Suzzie, a doula and childbirth educator.

Like many moms I had a turbulent entry to motherhood. First with a molar pregnancy and loss and then with an emergency c-section.

These experiences left me feeling like birth was scary, hard and I didn't know enough to fully put into words the anxieties and worries that kept me up at night.

By the time I had my second daughter a lot changed. I had learned so much more, felt very prepared and was able to work through the pain that accompanied my other experiences.

After Hazel's birth, I knew I wanted to work in the birth world. I LOVE working one on one with moms as a doula and am very passionate about education as one of our best tools to improve outcomes and create experiences that are also strong starts to motherhood.

*Adopted at 5 days old as an only child, I discovered I was born a middle child.

    *Mom of 6

    *Grandma of 8

    *5th child has Down's Syndrome

*Want to talk about communication and its long term effects on the parent child relationship

*Protection is key, but building independent skills is a must, so how do we do that without breeding a lack of trust?

I created AuthentiKid a software suite that allows companies to do their job regarding data compliance and content when the end user is a minor.

For those wondering…@AuthentiKid has built a software suite that solves multiple issues revolving around minors online and compliance difficulties by verifying the age group of a minor end user without using PII or biometrics.

    Married 21 years 3 children 2 sheltie dogs 1 bunny and a fish- Gina Mundy Childbirth Attorney S7 E21 Jun 01, 2024
    Show notes

Working mom - An attorney for 21 years specializing in childbirth cases.

Parenting and working has always been a challenge, particularly since I am married to a busy business owner.

My husband and I worked together closely when raising kids, plus had great support from his parents. This allowed me to travel the country for work.

I am also a bestselling author and that journey did require me to spend less time with my family. It took 14 months and 1000's of hours to write the book. I get up at 3:00 am everyday and usually in bed between 7pm and 8pm. The book was published in June 2023.

Author of the Book a "A Parent's Guide to a Safer Childbirth." As an attorney that specializes in childbirth cases, I have analyzed the mistakes that are made during labor and delivery. Drawing on this knowledge, I authored the book "A Parent's Guide to a Safer Childbirth" to help parents prevent these mistakes and have a healthy baby. Rather than merely getting involved after an unfortunate mistake was made, I am getting involved before childbirth to help prevent these mistakes.

Midwife Assistant for Amish, Doula, Infertility Specialist, Author, Epigenetics, & Functional Medicine - Jaclyn Downs May 17, 2024
    Show notes

*Most people get into birth work because they had a very negative birth experience. That's not my story. I became a doula in 2001, long before it was a common term.

*Then, from about ages 24-29, I apprenticed with a home birth midwife, mostly to the Amish community.

*It was during this time that I became aware of just how common fertility challenges and miscarriages are.

*I took my nutrition education/experience and coupled it with my career in birth work (doula, prenatal/postpartum yoga instructor, placenta encapsulation specialist, founder of a doula collective that gave workshops on topics like making birth plans, breastfeeding, baby wearing, etc.) and began focusing on fertility optimization.

*When my first daughter (both born at home) was a toddler, I began doing research for a naturopath on MTHFR & methylation

*That exploded into a comprehensive functional genomic analysis that I use today to support my clients to get to foundational causes of puzzling health challenges, like fertility.

I am a functional nutrigenomics practitioner and author of the academically published book, Enhancing Fertility through Functional Medicine: Using Nutrigenomics to Solve 'Unexplained' Infertility.

She has written hundreds of blog posts about pregnancy, birth, midwifery as a spiritual process, radical birth, and mothering and recorded almost 300 episodes of her podcast, “Taking Back Birth” that encourage women and midwives to rethink what they have been taught and re-connect with ancient wisdom and the spiritual journey of it all. Maryn co-founded the Indie Birth Midwifery School (indiebirthmidwiferyschool.org) in 2017 to help create more radical midwives and released her first book, Indie Birth: A Story of Radical Birth Love in 2019.
