How hard could it be? That's what Gabriele thought when she became a first-time parent. As a pediatric speech therapist, she thought she had the skills to make motherhood easy. Little did she know.

*There were lots of "parenting rules" she got to sift through (and get rid of)
*There's a reason that sleep deprivation is used a form of torture
* There's a reason that babies are cute (it's so that you won't throw them out the window!)

Gabriele is a speech therapist and parent coach. She is the owner and Head Toddler Whisperer at SpeechKids, a private online speech therapy practice serving families both in and outside the DC Metro area. She is also the co-founder of Raising Orchid Kids, a parent education and coaching practice Gabriele is passionate about showing families how to help their Orchid Kids (kids who need a little bit “extra”) thrive and not just survive. -I struggle with vaginismus
-Really really wanted to get pregnant but still struggled with vaginismus
-Took 5-6 months to conceive
-Had a beautiful birth center birth
-Struggled with breastfeeding
-Had 4 doctor/lactation appointments and no one could figure out my problems
-Switched to formula at 7 months
-We thought it would take longer to get pregnant again and so decided to start trying when our oldest was 9-10 months
-Got pregnant during the first month of trying
-Had a hospital water-birth with an amazing provider
-hemorrhaged and my midwife had to dig clots out of my uterus (extremely painful and hard with my vaginismus)
-Similar story breastfeeding this baby
-Now I’m raising two wonderful, crazy toddlers
-I fell absolutely in love with the birth process while pregnant with my first
-Decided to become a doula to support other mamas
-Moved to Nevada from Utah shortly after finishing my doula training
-Have struggled adjusting to the cultural differences in the birth world here
-Am excited to start my practice here and meet amazing families.

•Severe endometriosis surgery in 2015 removed 1 ovary… would love to discuss that journey since early 20s

I have A LOT TO say about my experience and have never shared about this part of my life before. I’m also a first time mom, but my husband had other children and there was an emotional disconnect there (I was excited and he didn’t care about milestones because he had seen it all before type thing)…

and 2 more with my current wife.
I was raised in an abusive home and vowed to myself and whoever would listen that I would not be unkind to my children.
I was entering a new field of something I knew nothing about... effective parenting. I had to learn quickly what works and what didn't work. Chore charts worked great.
When they want to be beside you all the time, incorporate them into the activity, regardless of how busy you are. They just want to be included. Love is more powerful than anything.
Teach them to build trust and don't violate the trust. If there are errors or mistakes along the way, emphasize the good rather than the error. If you want good to grow, nourish it.
If you want their bad habits or actions to grow, pay attention to them and focus on that. Let your garden grow.

- Babysitter, Nanny, and caretaker of children since the age of 12.
-1st pregnancy miscarried at 12 weeks - alone in a bathroom, 700 miles away from my spouse
- The 2nd pregnancy resulted in mostly healthy kiddo
- Baby had hydronephrosis of the kidneys and severe swelling of the ureter and urethra.
- Caused stress for the first 2 years but resolved on its own within 5 years
- Massive case of PMAD that went untreated and unsupported for about 4 years.
