Ginny, along with her husband Josh, are the proud parents of five children ages 12 and under, residing in Southeast Michigan. Throughout their journey of parenthood, they consistently observed city, county, and state parks, as well as trails, campsites, and natural landscapes in general, being nearly devoid of children most of the time. About five years ago, they embarked on a simple but thought-provoking question: "Why is this the case?" With an abundance of natural beauty surrounding them, they found it counterintuitive that these outdoor spaces remained empty.
With the question of "why" still unanswered, Ginny and Josh conducted research and discovered that encouraging children to spend 4-6 hours outdoors in a day was considered an ideal amount of time. Initially, this seemed excessive, especially given that most children's activities typically last an hour or less, such as library programs. However, they decided to give it a try. The results were remarkable. Ginny, Josh, and their children haven't looked back. Their most memorable family moments, and Ginny's most successful moments as a mother, consistently revolve around these fully immersive nature days. Over time, they have uncovered a multitude of benefits stemming from these wonderful outdoor experiences.
