After leaving Pastoral ministry, David Docusen found himself once again leading an accidental home church that brought him back to pastoring. (The lucky people of Winston Salem, NC can attest to this being the right choice.)
Through his years of expertise as a pastor, author, professor and community advocate, David realized that ministry and evangelism really is simpler and more accessible than we sometimes make it in the church.
This conversation is for anyone who isn’t sure how to talk to other people about Jesus, feels ill equipped to share their faith or gets nervous thinking about the Holy Spirit and whatever gifts you’re supposed to have because of it. This episode of Becoming Church with David will feel like talking with a friend - and will hopefully leave you encouraged that you can go and do the same just as easily.

The word “power” brings a lot to mind. It’s often associated with other words like male, patriarchy, privilege or structure. It often overlooks the marginalized, minorities and people who don’t belong to majority culture. In this episode, Kristin talks with Cheryl Nembhard about how to recognize healthy and unhealthy systems of power in order to disrupt systems in the name of hope and restoration.
As an advocate for social justice, women in ministry, at risk youth, sex-trafficked people and the marginalized, Cheryl is a voice of hope for many who are overlooked in today’s culture. In anticipation of Hispanic Heritage month, Eli Bonilla, author of Mixed: Embracing Complexity by Uncovering Your God-led Identity, talks about how our identities are always comprised of a combination of things. He shares candidly about being both Mexican and Black, living as an African in descent but Latino in ethnicity, and how he struggled to know who he was or what people group to belong to…until he realized that a mixed background is common to everyone!
This episode for everyone who has ever felt like they’re wearing more than one label. Even if your ethnicity is easy to find listed on a form, your identity is still complex. Our social and cultural experiences also form who we are and mold us into the person we’re becoming.
