Fixing the Drainage Flow | S3 E7: How the City is Fighting Flooding Jul 21, 2025

If you’ve lived in Southeast Texas for any time at all, you know we get a lot of rain here! In fact, Beaumont gets about twice the annual amount of rainfall seen by the rest of the nation.

And with all that water, unfortunately, of course, comes flooding and drainage issues not seen by other parts of the nation as well. That can create some challenges, so it’s important to have someone super qualified to handle all these issues.

And that person for the city of Beaumont is our Public Works Director, Molly Villarreal. She’s talking about what The City is doing to help alleviate some of these issues for our citizens.

Funding Our Future Projects | S3 E6: The Potential of Using Bonds Jun 10, 2025

The City of Beaumont has a bond committee working hard on some proposals for our future. They meet to discuss what to include in a potential bond proposal that may go up for election on the November ballot.

The City hasn’t had a bond election since 1983, the same year that Sally Ride became the first American woman in space, and when Michael Jackson debuted the moonwalk.

That was 42 years ago. Back then Beaumont passed a voter-approved $16 million General Obligation bond package for drainage improvements.

On today’s episode, one of Beaumont’s Assistant City Managers, June Ellis will join us to explain what the bond committee is discussing and how you can get involved in the process.

Backyard Adventures | S3 E5: National Travel & Tourism Week May 01, 2025

National Travel and Tourism Week is an annual celebration that underscores travel’s essential role in driving our nation's economy, cultivating vibrant communities and forging connections. This fun-filled week starts on May 4th and runs through May 10th.

It’s all put on by our hard-working staff with the Convention and Visitors Bureau, also known as Visit Beaumont or the CVB. The CVB is the ultimate visitors resource from meetings, to day trippers, to media and PR for the stories of the community. They offer itineraries for travelers while also providing services for meetings and conventions.

Former Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon once said, “young people today are the leaders of tomorrow, but let us never forget that they are already the leaders of today!”

On this episode of the Beaumont Beat we’ll be learning all about a great group of local youth leaders who make up the Beaumont Youth Advisory Council and find out about the great things they’re doing to serve our community.

They serve as advisors to the city’s leadership on issues that affect the youth in our community. The council provides a platform for these youth to share their ideas and opinions and work directly with our city officials.

It’s time to paint the town because Beaumont is getting an 8,000 square foot face lift.

Mural Festival 2024 is officially here, and thanks to the city of Beaumont and their generous sponsors, it’s free for you and your family to attend! #MardiGras is upon us! And today’s guest is the Board Chairman for Mardi Gras Southeast Texas, Tim Romero.

Now celebrating its 33rd year, Mardi Gras Southeast Texas is family friendly and there are many ways to get involved this weekend from joining or watching a parade to catching live entertainment and the carnival. The event is actually a fundraiser with proceeds benefiting 14 area non-profits!

It all starts on Thursday (February 8) and runs through Sunday (February 11). Tim will give us the rundown of all the festivities this weekend.

Blue Santa Needs Your Help | S1 E11: Spread Holiday Cheer with the Beaumont Police Department Dec 06, 2023

The Beaumont Police Department has been running the #BlueSanta program for over 30 years to help children in need and foster positive police interactions. Learn how you can get involved in spreading joy throughout the community during the holiday season and year-round. Unlike other cities, BPD’s Blue Santa is not a self-sign-up style program. Instead, our officers nominate families in need who they have encountered throughout the year. Tune in learn how you can get involved!
This year, BPD’s Blue Santa Program will be providing Christmas toys for over 250 children in the city of Beaumont. Blue Santa will have a police escort throughout the city as they deliver toys and spread Christmas Cheer! As always, the Blue Santa Program would not be possible without the generous donations of so many businesses, organizations, and citizens in our community.

Projects in the Pipeline | S1 E7: New Community Investment Plan is Here Oct 12, 2023

Future thinking – today. Beaumont’s Community Investment Plan (CIP) was just approved, which is a multi-year plan to identify, prioritize, budget, and plan major city projects and improvements and identify potential funding sources for fiscal year 2024-2028. There are seven major buckets of projects: Parks, Recreation, Facilities, Water, Wastewater, Drainage, and Streets, but the document is fluid and will be assessed and adjusted annually as needs and priorities change. With almost $100,000,000 of planned investments this year – tune in to hear what projects are underway and in the pipeline.

To kick things off, we talk about the tragic national crime epidemic in America and answered the age-old question, “Is Beaumont Safe?” We highlight the incredible community programs the Beaumont Police Department does throughout the year, the new technology and training we’re investing in to ensure a safe city for all, and how the citizens can get involved. We also addressed how we’re working to improve EMS response times and the innovative solutions Beaumont Fire-Rescue is working towards, like starting a Mobile Integrated Healthcare (MIH) Program and telemedicine to better serve the community.
