Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Show — Union Berlin 1-1 Bayern Munich (Hinrunde) Sep 03, 2022
    Show notes

It’s happened again. After an amazing start to the season, Bayern Munich have suffered a second consecutive draw to Union Berlin, putting an end to the perceived invincibility of this side. With Champions League games starting up again, it’s a very bad time for Julian Nagelsmann to hit a bump in the road. Here are our talking points from the game:Bayern Munich draw yet again thanks to some staunch defending by Union Berlin. Should that concern us? (Answer: Yes.)Addressing Nagelsmann’s choice to have a lack of width on the pitch. Why this Union game result differs greatly from what happened against Gladbach. Sadio Mane’s terrible, not-good, very bad game. Is the honeymoon over? The problem with Leroy Sane today. Addressing the rest of the forward line and their issues. Why Julian Nagelsmann needs to bring the unpredictability back to Bayern’s attack. Pointing out a few good performances — Matthijs de Ligt and Marcel Sabitzer. Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Show — Bayern Munich 1-1 Gladbach (Hinrunde) Aug 27, 2022
    Show notes

Bayern Munich have been stopped. The juggernaut is slain. All rejoice, the Bundesliga is now free from tyranny. Okay, maybe not. But it is true that Gladbach have not lost to Bayern. And given the kind of performances we’ve been enjoying lately, that is quite an achievement. Yann Sommer saved 20 shots in what could be the greatest performance by a keeper in the history of the Bundesliga. Here are our talking points from the game:A very short mental breakdown to preface the pod. Why Yann Sommer deserves the credit for this result. A quick recap of what happened in the game. Could Robert Lewandowski have changed this result? Did Nagelsmann subbing on Matthijs de Ligt mean he needs a CF? Why Julian Nagelsmann’s tactics cannot be blamed for this result. The referee was horrible. That is all. Why Thomas Muller remains one of the most effective players on the pitch, despite a lack of recent goals/assists. Sadio Mane’s constant offsides — why does it keep happening? How a draw against Gladbach allows us to make adjustments for the upcoming Champions League table. Why we can’t take too many negatives from this game because of Gladbach are our bogey team. Bavarian Podcast Works: Special Edition — Reacting to Bayern Munich’s Champions League group stage draw Aug 25, 2022
    Show notes

The draws are in! Bayern Munich will face FC Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League group stages this season. It’s arguably the group of death this year as at least one big club WILL find itself dumped into the Europa League this season. Of course, that just gives us more juicy games to talk about. Here are our talking points from the draw:The trouble with not getting an English Premier League team in the draw this season. How the FC Barcelona draw concerns us this season. The importance of Barca’s new additions, especially Robert Lewandowski. Why Inter Milan is a deceptively tough tie despite being a Serie A team. How this could be the “Group of Death” for this campaign. How should Julian Nagelsmann tackle the group stage? Shouldn’t Bayern top the group?Could Plzen pull off something against the bigger sides in the group? Upsets incoming?More terror at the prospect of facing Robert Lewandowski and questions about Bayern’s defense. Arguments about the type of striker Romelu Lukaku is, and an Upamecano vs Lukaku debate. A look at the rest of the draws of the Bundesliga teams. How many German teams will qualify?
