Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Rant — Mainz 3-1 Bayern Munich (Explicit) Apr 22, 2023
    Show notes

Well that’s it, Bayern Munich are cooked. The Bundesliga title is sliding out of reach, and honestly should’ve been well out of reach if any competent challenger existed in this league. What an absolute shambles. This isn’t time to mince words. The situation is really dire.

Here are our talking points from the game:

    • Despair. Sadness. Swearing.
    • How Thomas Tuchel has completely abandoned the simplicity we saw versus Borussia Dortmund.
    • Why can’t Bayern Munich score the second goal? The demise of the “can-opener”.
    • How the Thomas Tuchel DNA is already becoming visible at Bayern, and it’s not good.
    • Thomas Tuchel doesn’t seem to know the strengths of his squad.
    • Another case of awful substitutions — why sub Thomas Muller and Joshua Kimmich?
    • Calling on the board to resign on the back of this gamble, and many other mistakes.
    • Isn’t the squad good enough to beat Mainz? How Thomas Tuchel needs to fix this.
    • Let’s stop remixing failed experiments — no more back threes especially.

    Show notes

Bayern Munich’s season has been knocked upside down.

The DFB-Pokal run is over, the Champions League hopes have been crushed, and now fan have been left to pick up all of the pieces, while hoping like hell that the squad can remain focused enough to capture the Bundesliga (which is no sure thing at this point):

    • A preview of Bayern Munich vs. Mainz 05.
    • The fallout from Bayern Munich’s elimination at the hands of Manchester City including the Oliver Kahn getting ousted rumors, Thomas Tuchel’s blame game, the team’s collapse since the hiring of Tuchel, and more!

Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Show — Bayern Munich 1-1 Manchester City (Champions League QF) Apr 19, 2023
    Show notes

Bayern Munich earned a 1-1 decision against Manchester City in the Champions League, but it was not enough to claw through to the next round. Manchester City won the tie 4-1 on aggregate and the Bavarians will now try to hold on to their slim lead in the Bundesliga to salvage the once-promising season.

Let’s take a look at what we have on tap for this episode:

    • A look at Thomas Tuchel’s starting XI selections — what worked, what didn’t.
    • A rundown of the scoring, the subs, and the many, many yellow cards.
    • Erling Haaland is ruining Dayot Upamecano (who had another rough outing).
    • When the changes go down Kingsley Coman needs to stay. He was menace.
    • What this all means and why the board’s decision continues to be a complete disaster.

Bavarian Podcast Works S5E41: Another gloomy preview of Bayern Munich vs Man City + Has anything improved with Tuchel? + Sadio Mane vs Leroy Sane Apr 16, 2023
    Show notes

Schnitzel and Marcus find something to agree on: their current anger, confusion, and mistrust in the Bayern board.

    Major talking points:

    • Preview of the Manchester City game in the Champions League. Everything is going wrong at Bayern Munich...is this the perfect time for a comeback worthy of the history books?
    • The monster that is Erling Haaland.
    • Jamal Musiala and his 2023 form - is Bayern’s brightest star being utilized wrong?
    • Sadio Mane vs Leroy Sane debacle. How does the future look like for the Senegalese superstar in Munich?
    • The inconsistency of Bayern’s wingers. Schnitzel states that West Brom should re-sign Serge Gnabry.
    • Has anything improved with Tuchel? Or was the Nagelsmann sacking a colossal miscalculation from the board?
    • Should the board be held accountable for Bayern’s Pokal and, most likely, Champions League elimination?
    • Bayern Munich’s chances of winning the Bundesliga.
    • Thomas Tuchel’s ability as a coach and how long he will have a future at Bayern
    • A quick glance at the upcoming summer transfer window and what striker Bayern Munich should sign.

Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Show — Bayern Munich 1-1 Hoffenheim (Bundesliga) Apr 15, 2023
    Show notes

When it rains, it pours...like cats and dogs for Bayern Munich. The Bavarians sputtered through a 1-1 draw with Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga in a match that was extremely frustrating — mostly because it was more of the same issues we have been accustomed to seeing of late.

Here is what we have on tap for this episode:

    • A rundown of the scoring and substitutions.
    • Some thought on the starting XI and why players like Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies were left out of the lineup.
    • Tuchel’s subs — why they partly worked and partly didn’t.
    • Some lamentations on how this season slipped through Bayern Munich’s grasp, including thoughts on how big of a mistake the board made in forcing a coaching change when they did.
    • Some doubts on whether or not everyone has moved on from “the slap.”

Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Show — Manchester City 3-0 Bayern Munich (Champions League QF) Apr 11, 2023
    Show notes

Well that’s it then. Bayern Munich are out of the UEFA Champions League. Since winning the treble in 2020, the quarter finals seem like they’ve become an impassible wall that this squad cannot get past. Manchester City showed this group of players a different level of football as they overwhelmed possibly the most mediocre Bayern Munich team we’ve seen in years. The second leg is reduced to a formality now.

Here are our talking points from the game:

    • The horrible decision to bench Thomas Muller in a game this big.
    • Dayot Upamecano’s huge mistake compared to the season he’s been having.
    • The abject performance of the offense. Leroy Sane, Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman — all not good enough.
    • “Captain” Joshua Kimmich’s complete lack of leadership on the big stage.
    • INNN’s conspiracy theory about Kimmich.
    • How much blame does the board bear for this elimination?
    • Shouldn’t this loss also come back on Thomas Tuchel?

Bavarian Podcast Works S5E40: A gloomy preview of Man City vs Bayern Munich + Is Sadio Mane a total flop? + The striker problem discussed Apr 09, 2023
    Show notes

There’s never a dull moment at Bayern Munich (unless you watched the first half of Saturday’s game versus Freiburg). This week could be crucial for the outcome of the entire season as the club gear up to face Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League quarter finals. After the coaching shakeup and the elimination from the Pokal last week, confidence seems to be at an all time low at the BFW podcasting department.

In this episode, INNN and Samrin talk about the following:

    • Establishing the tone (not positive) for the rest of the podcast.
    • How should Thomas Tuchel line up his team against Manchester City?
    • Which duels will be key for Bayern vs City? Davies, Haaland, Upa, etc.
    • An outside-the-box solution to the striker problem due to Choupo’s absence.
    • How will Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka set up versus Rodri, Gundogan, and the like?
    • Why a counterattacking approach could be the best and worst option for Bayern Munich.
    • Why starting Joao Cancelo against his former team may not be the best idea.
    • Finally talking about Sadio Mane and the source of his problems at Bayern.
    • Harsh criticism of the board’s transfer policy and their “support” of Julian Nagelsmann.
    • Comparing the squad construction in offense vs defense and the huge mismatch between the two.
    • Does Bayern Munich need to sign a new striker in the summer? Who’s available? Kane, Kolo Muani, Vlahovic, etc.
    • Signing off in an attempt to be positive for once.

Bavarian Podcast Works: Postgame Show — SC Freiburg 0-1 Bayern Munich (Bundesliga) Apr 08, 2023
    Show notes

Bayern Munich and SC Freiburg hooked up again, this time it was in the Bundesliga, but it sure looked and felt a lot like a rehash of what happened on Tuesday.

SC Freiburg was extremely disciplined and Bayern Munich was very disjointed, which led to a shaky 1-0 victory for the Bavarians — thanks to a laser of a goal from Matthijs de Ligt.

Here is what we have on tap for this episode:

    • A rundown of the scoresheet — Bayern Munich’s terrible finishing prevented this game from being a blowout on the scoreboard.
    • A look at the lineup, what changed for Thomas Tuchel, and some thoughts on why he might have made the changes (Dayot Upamecano was suspended, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting was hurt, and some other benching that were probably deserved).
    • Is Jamal Musiala getting Scottie Jetpacks’d? (Deep cut you might want to hear).
    • De Ligt was the savior.
    • The near brawl at the end whistle and where to go from here.

Bavarian Podcast Works: Weekend Warm-up Podcast Season 2, Episode 39 — A preview of Bayern Munich vs. SC Freiburg; The bad optics of Tuchel starting Cancelo; A new striker for next season; and MORE! Apr 06, 2023
    Show notes

Bayern Munich and SC Freiburg are turning into a Rocky-type franchise at this point.

The teams battled in the DFB-Pokal and will now carry the fracas over to the Bundesliga in what amounts to a very key game for Bayern Munich’s title hopes. That game, however, is just one of several talking points to emerge from this week.

Let’s dig in. This is what we have on tap for this episode:

    • A preview of the Bundesliga match between Bayern Munich and SC Freiburg. Tensions should be high after Freiburg’s upset win in the DFB-Pokal on Tuesday.
    • The terrible optics of Thomas Tuchel’s decision to start Joao Cancelo against SC Freiburg.
    • Reports say Tuchel wants a new striker.
    • Why Tuchel’s job is going to get a lot harder in the coming days and weeks.
