Show notes

What are the answers to the challenging questioned raised by the possibility of genetic selection? Who should decide whether it's legal and to what ends it's employed? What is Jude Law hiding by not showing full frontal on screen? These are just some of the questions we attempt to answer as we consider Andrew Niccol's 1997 genetic dystopia movie, Gattaca.

A big thank you to Josh H for commissioning this podcast!

The Walking Dead Fan Edits: "The Killer Within" and "Made to Suffer" Oct 01, 2020

Show notes

Thanks to Liverdad for commissioning this podcast. It's outside of our wheelhouse when it comes to commissions, as this time we were tasked with covering the commissioner's own project, which is a pair of feature-length movies constructed from the first 10 or so episodes of season 3 of The Walking Dead.

Turns out there was a lot of fluff in that season because what he came up with after chopping nearly 7 hours off the runtime was not only more exciting but more cohesive as well. Join us for the podcast where we go over the details of what he changed that made it work so much better as well as our nostalgic observations on seeing season 3 again in a new light.

If you'd like to view Liverdad's fan edits and see how good season 3 could have been, use these links (large file size alert):

The Walking Dead - 915 - The Calm Before Sep 22, 2020

Show notes

This week's episode, titled "The Calm Before", is anything but. Ezekiel's trade fair is finally upon us and it's one for the ages. We're gratified to see that nearly everything we predicted for this fair was right on the money. The super bus doesn't get much use but hey, there's a dunk tank! A trade fair doesn't mean this episode is a paper tiger though. The major cast shakeup proves that it's also got teeth. Join us for an extended discussion before the inevitable "storm".

Hackers - 25th Anniversary Re-Release Sep 16, 2020

Show notes

It has been 25 years since Zero Cool and Acid Burn went head to head in the action-hacking thriller, Hackers and 2 years since we recorded our podcast covering the movie so we figured "why not release it again?"

Max commissioned one of his beloved films from high school (shout out to the Class of '95!), Hackers. Directed by Iain Softley and starring Jonny Lee Miller and Angelina Jolie, Hackers is a mostly ridiculous look into mid-90s hacker culture that's core plot is a rehash of Office Space, which is to say it's a rehash of Superman III. We discuss the film as contemporary computer nerds and as grown men looking back at the naivety of early hacker culture and the weird prescience the move shows.
