Guru Purnima Special- How Lord Shiv Became Guru of Narad Muni Jul 13, 2022

Show notes

On occasion of Guru Purnima, let us listen to the story of Narad Muni and how Lord Shiv became his Guru. This story tells us the importance of a Guru in our lives. This story was narrated by Amar Vyas and is sourced from the text Narad Pancharatra. Parts of this tale have been edited for language and context by gaathastory.

The story revolves around Narad Muni, a learned sage who travels across the three worlds, and his quest to find a guru. He attends a religious ceremony in Swargalok, where he is offered a lower position due to not having a guru. He then declares that the next morning, whoever he meets first will be his guru. The old fisherman he meets becomes his guru, but surprisingly, the fisherman transforms into Lord Shiv, the destroyer of the universe, who becomes Narad Muni's guru.

Moral: The story highlights the importance of having a guru in one's life. It teaches that a guru is not just someone who imparts knowledge, but also someone who guides and transforms us. The story also emphasizes the value of humility and the willingness to learn from anyone, regardless of their social status or background. Ultimately, the story suggests that a true guru is one who can reveal the divine within us, and that Lord Shiv, the destroyer of the universe, is the ultimate guru of Narad Muni.

27: Anasi's Lucky Day Oct 12, 2020

Show notes

Listen to another story about Akadeli. This time, learn what happens on his lucky day.

The story is set in Africa, although the continent is not explicitly mentioned, the mention of a big river and a traditional wedding with people wearing grass on their heads suggests an African setting.

The story revolves around four girls, Akadeli, Lucy, Achareth, and Mary, who go to a forest to pick wild fruits. Akadeli, who closes her eyes while picking fruits, ends up with unripe fruits, but later, she has a series of unfortunate events that ultimately lead to her receiving a big bull as a gift.

Moral of the story: The story teaches children the importance of perseverance and not giving up, even when faced with setbacks and disappointments. It also highlights the value of kindness and generosity, as Akadeli's good fortune is a result of her kindness and generosity to others. Additionally, the story cautions against the consequences of mocking or belittling others, as Lucy, Achareth, and Mary's behavior towards Akadeli ultimately leads to their regret.
