He discusses his Rule of Two which led to going missed early, the DFC90 autopilot, and a restriction for RNAV-equipped aircraft starting at an IAF.

    Summary164 In September 2020, the California National Guard rescued nearly 400 people trapped by the Creek Fire. Max gets the inside story of the rescue by talking with Col. David Hall of the 40th Combat Aviation Brigade and helicopter pilot Kipp Goding. He also talked with Henri Laborde, one of the rescued hikers. Kipp talks about the UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter and the challenges of flying in heavy smoke.

    Summary163 Max talks about his roundtrip from SFO to Knoxville on the airlines and an MIT study that estimates the chances of catching COVID on an airline flight. While the terminals appear safe, the highest risk is in flight, as not everyone is properly masked. He shares what he learned about the mask he was wearing and has recommendations for choosing a mask. While safe, airline travel isn't a lot of fun.

    162 Max talks about a fatal crash with many risk factors including a pilot who had low total flying time and relatively little experience in an SR22. After a 5-hour flight, flown late at night, he diverted to buy cheap fuel at another airport close to his home. During that time, his home field went below minimums. He appeared to be unaware he was 0.6 miles off course throughout the entire approach.

    Summary159 Pilots need to know how to do a weather briefing before they fly, and there are several other things you are required to do by FAR 91.103. For some flights, you're not required to get a weather briefing, and we explain why. We'll show you how to get a weather briefing from a free weather source. If addition to weather, you're also required to consider fuel, alternatives and known ATC delays.

    Summary158 Last year, Australian student pilot Max Sylvester was taking his third flight lesson when his instructor had a seizure and passed out in the cockpit. Max managed to set the radio to the Jandakot Airport tower frequency and declare an emergency. Over the next hour, the air traffic controller, with the help of an instructor from Max's flight school, talked Max down to a a successful landing.

It's particular dangerous when taking off at night over a poorly lit surface, when doing instrument takeoffs in zero zero visibility and when an instrument begins the missed approach.
