This week’s guests are Palestinian father and son, Sama’an Ashrawi, a Palestinian-American writer, filmmaker, music producer, and host of the Nostalgia Mixtape podcast, and Ibrahim Ashrawi, a Palestinian refugee born in Jerusalem who along with his siblings and friends, co-founded Palestine’s first original rock 'n roll band: Al-Bara’em (The Blooms). We talk about early memories of music, Sama’an’s work in the music industry, creating the first Palestinian rock n roll band, the power of the arts, visiting Palestine as a Palestinian-American adult, being born in a refugee camp, and stay tuned until the end of the episode for a very special AAP EXCLUSIVE: an unreleased snippet from Al-Bara’em’s 1973 YMCA live concert where they performed a cover of Fairuz’s song “Be Balady Al Awal”, you literally can’t hear this anywhere else. Enjoy psychos, and free Palestine!
