    The Nativity Dec 08, 2023

    In this spine-chilling episode of "Anthology of Horror," we unraveled the threads of tradition and ventured into the shadows with a horrifying alternative take on the classic Nativity story. Our featured tale, "Nativity of the Living Dead," crafted by the sinister imagination of Rick Wood, led us down a darkened path where the sacred and the macabre converged in a nightmarish tapestry.

    As we delved into this alternative Nativity narrative, familiar characters and symbols took on a disturbing new life, twisting the traditional Christmas story into a realm of horror. The manger, once a symbol of innocence, became the stage for a supernatural encounter that defied expectations and embraced the darker, unknown aspects of the holiday season.

    Rick Wood's storytelling mastery wove a tale of suspense and dread, challenging preconceived notions and subverting the comforting familiarity of the Nativity story. Listeners were transported into a world where the boundaries between the sacred and the profane blurred, leaving behind a lingering sense of unease.

    The atmospheric interlude music, "Carol of the Bells," played by the mysterious Spring Heeled Jack, heightened the tension, creating a haunting backdrop for the unfolding narrative. The closing song, "Silent Night" by Adrienne Cowan provided a fitting conclusion to a tale that dared to challenge the conventional cheer of the holiday season.

    As we bid farewell to this alternative Nativity tale, we invite our dedicated listeners to share their thoughts and reactions, inviting them to rate the episode and share it with fellow horror enthusiasts. Your support is the heartbeat of "Anthology of Horror," and we are grateful for your unwavering commitment to the chilling stories that unfold within our crypt.

    Thanksgiving Dinner Nov 22, 2023

    In today's episode of "Anthology of Horror," viewers are treated to a spine-chilling tale penned by the talented Sam Stoutman. The story unfolds against the backdrop of a seemingly idyllic family holiday dinner, setting the stage for an eerie narrative that takes unexpected twists and turns.

    As the episode begins, the atmosphere is thick with anticipation as family members gather around the dinner table. The aroma of a meticulously prepared holiday feast wafts through the air, creating an illusion of warmth and togetherness. However, as the characters delve into their seemingly ordinary dinner, it becomes evident that beneath the veneer of normalcy lies a sinister undercurrent.

    Stoutman masterfully weaves a narrative that explores the fragility of familial bonds, unraveling the facade of happiness and unity that typically accompanies such gatherings. The characters, once thought to be familiar and comforting, take on an unsettling demeanor as the story progresses. The tension builds steadily, creating an atmosphere of unease that keeps listeners on the edge of their seats.

    The crux of the horror lies in the revelation that the holiday dinner is a mere facade for something far more sinister. Secrets are unearthed, and the true nature of the family dynamic comes to light in a series of shocking twists. Stoutman's narrative prowess keeps the audience guessing until the very end, heightening the impact of the story.

    Complementing the narrative is the carefully chosen musical accompaniment. The closing song, "Long Line of Losers" by Montgomery Gentry, serves as a haunting and fitting finale to the episode. Its lyrics and melody enhance the overall mood, leaving listeners with a lingering sense of disquiet long after the episode concludes.

    The interlude music, featuring Vivaldi's "Spring" from "The Four Seasons," adds a layer of sophistication to the episode. The juxtaposition of classical music against the backdrop of a horror narrative creates a unique and unsettling contrast, amplifying the overall sense of dread.

    Sam Stoutman's contribution to "Anthology of Horror" with this holiday-themed episode is a testament to his ability to craft a compelling and chilling tale. The episode delves into the dark recesses of family dynamics, using the holiday setting as a backdrop for a story that will leave audiences questioning the true nature of the bonds that tie us together.

    Stories that don't succubus Jul 20, 2020

    A succubus is a demon in female form, or supernatural entity in folklore (traced back to medieval legend), that appears in dreams and takes the form of a woman in order to seduce men, usually through sexual activity. The male counterpart to the succubus is the incubus. Religious traditions hold that repeated sexual activity with a succubus may result in the deterioration of health or mental state, or even death.

    In modern representations, a succubus may or may not appear in dreams and is often depicted as a highly attractive seductress or enchantress; whereas, in the past, succubi were generally depicted as frightening or demonic.

    The Terrible saga of the Bluebelle May 21, 2020

    It began with a man in a boat and a little girl in a raft. On November 13, 1961, the tanker Gulf Lion was plying the waters of the Northwest Providence Channel in the Bahamas when it crossed paths with a small dinghy towing a life raft. The man in the dinghy shouted up to an officer on the tanker, identifying himself as Julian Harvey, captain of the ketch Bluebelle. The little girl in the raft, he said, was Terry Jo Duperrault, and she was dead.

    Harvey, a handsome war hero and charter boat captain, was hauled aboard the tanker, where he told his harrowing tale. He'd been taking the Duperrault family of Green Bay, Wisconsin, back to Florida after a week-long cruise through the Bahamas on the Bluebelle when a squall struck in the middle of the previous night. It damaged the yacht's mainmast so badly the post plunged straight through the cabin and hull of the boat, taking another mast with it and rupturing gas lines in the engine room, which caused a fire to break out. Harvey said his passengersβ€”the five-member Duperrault family and his own wife, Mary Deneβ€”were either caught in the felled rigging or jumped overboard as the Bluebelle went down.

    It was the same story he'd tell Coast Guard investigators three days later in even greater detail; he described emptying two fire extinguishers onto the flames with little effect and, once in the dinghy, how he shouted over and over into the squall, trying to locate the other passengers. When he did spot little Terry Jo, she was floating face down in the water in her life jacket, already dead.

    It was a horrific tale, to be sure. There was just one problem: At the very moment Harvey was telling his story to the crew of the Gulf Lion, the real Terry Jo was clinging to a small life raft several miles away, slowly withering under a murderous tropical sun.

    The Philadelphia Experiment Apr 28, 2020

    The Philadelphia Experiment is an alleged military experiment supposed to have been carried out by the U.S. Navy at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, sometime around October 28, 1943. The U.S. Navy destroyer escort USS Eldridge was claimed to have been rendered invisible (or "cloaked") to enemy devices.

    The story first appeared in 1955, in letters of unknown origin sent to a writer and astronomer, Morris K. Jessup. It is widely understood to be a hoax; the U.S. Navy maintains that no such experiment was ever conducted, that the details of the story contradict well-established facts about USS Eldridge, and that the alleged claims do not conform to known physical laws.

    The Plague Bubonic Apr 14, 2020

    The Black Death, also known as the Pestilence and the Plague,[a] was the most fatal pandemic recorded in human history, resulting in the deaths of up to 75-200 million people in Eurasia and North Africa, peaking in Europe from 1347 to 1351. Plague, the disease caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis, is believed to have been the cause; Y. pestis infection can cause septicaemic and pneumonic plagues but most commonly results in bubonic plague.The Black Death was the second plague pandemic recorded, after the Plague of Justinian (542-546). The plague created religious, social, and economic upheavals, with profound effects on the course of European history.

    The Black Death probably originated in Central Asia or East Asia] from where it travelled along the Silk Road, reaching Crimea by 1347. From there, it was most likely carried by fleas living on the black rats that travelled on Genoesemerchant ships, spreading throughout the Mediterranean Basin and reaching Africa, Western Asia, and the rest of Europe via Constantinople, Sicily, and the Italian Peninsula.

    The Black Death is estimated to have killed 30% to 60% of Europe's population. In total, the plague may have reduced the world population from an estimated 475 million to 350–375 million in the 14th century.[16] It took 200 years for Europe's population to recover to its previous level. Outbreaks of the plague recurred until the early 20th century.

    Camp Scott Girl Scout Murders Jan 13, 2020

    Oklahoma Girl Scout Murders. Oklahoma, 1977. Buses, loaded with young girls, leave Magic Empire Headquarters in Tulsa. They are taking them to Camp Scott. That night after dinner, three girls meet back at the tent they are sharing for the duration of their stay. They will write letters home and eventually try to get some sleep. For nearly 50 years the camp had been a safe place for friendship, adventure, & growth. Sometime during the night in 1977, though, that would all end. The body of a young girl would be discovered the next morning with two more found shortly after. It would not take long before a manhunt would begin. The authorities had a suspect, Gene Leroy Hart, but would they find justice?

    Cursed Samuri Swords (Muramasa) Nov 15, 2019

    In popular culture, Muramasa swords have been often depicted as cursed swords with demonic powers. Oscar Ratti and Adele Westbrook said that Muramasa "was a most skillful smith but a violent and ill-balanced mind verging on madness, that was supposed to have passed into his blades. They were popularly believed to hunger for blood and to impel their warrior to commit murder or suicide."[13] It has also been told that once drawn, a Muramasa blade has to draw blood before it can be returned to its scabbard, even to the point of forcing its wielder to wound himself or commit suicide.[14] Thus, it is thought of as a demonic cursed blade that creates bloodlust in those who wield it.

    The Sacramento Sex Slave Murders Oct 17, 2019

    Gerald Armond Gallego (July 17, 1946 – July 18, 2002) and Charlene Adell (Williams) Gallego (born October 10, 1956) are two American serial killers who terrorized Sacramento, California between 1978 and 1980. They murdered ten victims, mostly teenagers, most of whom they kept as sex slaves before killing them.

    Gerald Armond Gallego[edit]

    Gerald Armond Gallego (a.k.a. "Stephen Feil" or "Stephen Styles")[1] was born on 17 July 1946 in Sacramento, California. His mother was a prostitute, while his estranged father was a criminal who in 1955 became the first man executed in the Mississippi gas chamber, for the killing of a police officer during a prison escape.[2] Gallego began his criminal career at age thirteen, when he sexually abused a six-year-old girl.[3] He had 23 arrests and served time after being convicted of robberyprior to his murder spree.[1]

    Gallego worked as a bartender and truck driver.[1] He was married a total of seven times, including two marriages to the same woman. He was still married to a previous wife when he married Charlene Williams.[3]

    Charlene Adell (Williams) Gallego[edit]

    Charlene Adell Williams was born on 10 October 1956 in Stockton, California. She was a smart, shy child from a supportive home.[4] The trajectory of her life began to change when, as a young adult, she started using drugs and alcohol. She was married twice before meeting Gallego.[5]

    The Ruthless and the Toothless. Hatfield VS McCoy Oct 05, 2019

    The Hatfield–McCoy feud, also described by journalists as the Hatfield–McCoy war, involved two rural families of the West Virginia–Kentucky area along the Tug Fork of the Big Sandy River in the years 1863–1891. The Hatfields of West Virginia were led by William Anderson "Devil Anse" Hatfield while the McCoys of Kentucky were under the leadership of Randolph "Ole Ran'l" McCoy. Those involved in the feud were descended from Joseph Hatfield and William McCoy (born c. 1750). The feud has entered the American folklore lexicon as a metonym for any bitterly feuding rival parties.

    William McCoy, the patriarch of the McCoys, was born in Ireland around 1750 and many of his ancestors hailed from Scotland.[1] The family, led by grandson Randolph McCoy, lived mostly on the Kentucky side of Tug Fork (a tributary of the Big Sandy River).[2] The Hatfields, led by William Anderson "Devil Anse" Hatfield, son of Ephraim and Nancy (Vance) Hatfield, lived mostly on the West Virginia side.[3] The majority of the Hatfields, although living in Mingo County (then part of Logan County), West Virginia, fought on the Confederate side in the American Civil War; most McCoys, living in Pike County, Kentucky, also fought for the Confederates;[4] with the exception of Asa Harmon McCoy, who fought for the Union. The first real violence in the feud was the death of Asa Harmon McCoy as he returned from the war, murdered by a group of Confederate Home Guards called the Logan Wildcats. Devil Anse Hatfield was a suspect at first, but was later confirmed to have been sick at home at the time of the murder. It was widely believed that his uncle, Jim Vance, a member of the Wildcats, committed the murder.[5]

    Amazing Grace The embarrassing story of John Newton Sep 28, 2019

    John Newton (/ˈnjuːtΙ™n/; 4 August [O.S. 24 July] 1725[1] – 21 December 1807) was an English Anglican clergyman and abolitionist who was forced to serve as a sailor in the Royal Navy for a period. He was first a slave of Princess Peye, a black princess of the Sherbro people and then, years after, He became the captain of slave ships. He became ordained as an evangelical Anglican cleric, served Olney, Buckinghamshire, for two decades, and also wrote hymns, known for "Amazing Grace" and "Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken".

    Newton started his career at sea at a young age, and worked on slave ships in the slave trade for several years. After experiencing a period of Christian conversion Newton eventually renounced his trade and became a prominent supporter of abolitionism, living to see the UK's abolition of the African slave trade in 1807, just before his death.

    As a bagpiper, I play many gigs. Recently I was asked by a funeral director to play at a graveside service for a homeless man. He had no family or friends, so the service was to be at a pauper's cemetery in the Nova Scotia back country.

    As I was not familiar with the backwoods, I got lost on the way and, being a typical man, didn't stop for directions. I finally arrived an hour late and found the funeral director had gone and the hearse was nowhere in sight. There were only the grave diggers and crew left and they were eating lunch.

    I felt badly and apologized to the men for being late. I went to the side of the grave and looked down and the vault lid was already in place. I didn't know what else to do, so I started to play. The workers put down their lunches and began to gather around.

    I played out my heart and soul for this poor man with no family and friends. I played like I've never played before. And as I played "Amazing Grace," the workers began to weep. They wept, I wept, we all wept together.

    When I finished, I packed up my bagpipes and started for my car. Though my head was hung low, my heart was full. As I opened the door to my car, I heard one of the workers say, "I never seen anything like that before, and I've been putting in septic tanks for twenty years."

    UPLOAD CORRECTION Wish masters The History of the Djinn or Geenies Sep 27, 2019

    Jinn (Arabic: Ψ§Ω„Ψ¬Ω†β€Ž, al-jinn), also Romanized as djinn or Anglicized as genies (with the more broad meaning of spirits or demons, depending on source),[1][2] are supernatural creatures in early pre-Islamic Arabian and later Islamic mythology and theology. Since jinn are neither innately evil nor innately good, Islam was able to adapt spirits from other religions during its expansion.[3]Jinn are not a strictly Islamic concept; rather, they may represent several pagan beliefs integrated into Islam.[4][5]

    Besides the jinn, Islam acknowledges the existence of demons (Shayāṭīn). The lines between demons and jinn are often blurred, since malevolent jinn are also called shayāṭīn.[6][7] However both Islam and non-Islamic scholarship generally distinguishes between angels, jinn and demons (shayāṭīn) as three different types of spiritual entities in Islamic traditions.[8][9] The jinn are distinguished from demons in that they can be both evil and good, while genuine demons are exclusively evil.[10] Some academic scholars assert that demons are related to monotheistic traditions and jinn to polytheistic traditions.[11]

    In an Islamic context, the term jinn is used for both a collective designation for any supernatural creature and also to refer to a specific type of supernatural creature.[12]

    The Leeds Devil AKA The Jersey Devil Sep 07, 2019

    A storm was raging that night in 1735, when Mother Leeds was brought to bed in childbirth. The room was full of woman folk gathered to help her, more out of curiosity than good will. They had all heard the rumors that Mother Leeds was involved in witchcraft, and had sworn she would give birth to a devil.

    Tension mounted when at last the baby arrived. It was a relief (and to some a disappointment), when the baby was born completely normal. But a few moments later, before their terrified eyes, the child began to change. The room erupted with screams as the child grew at an enormous rate, becoming taller than a man and changing into a beast which resembled a dragon, with a head like a horse, a snake-like body and bat's wings.

    As soon as it was full-grown, the monster began beating all the woman (including his mother) with its thick, forked tail. With a harsh cry, it flew through the chimney and vanished into the storm.

    The Monster of Leeds, or the Jersey Devil as he was later called, still haunts the pines of New Jersey, wrecking havoc upon farmer's crops and livestock, poisoning pools and creeks, and appearing on the New Jersey shore just before a ship wreck.

    Trojan War Part 4 (The dealings of Gods) Aug 27, 2019

    The story of the Trojan Warβ€”the Bronze Age conflict between the kingdoms of Troy and Mycenaean Greece–straddles the history and mythology of ancient Greece and inspired the greatest writers of antiquity, from Homer, Herodotus and Sophocles to Virgil. Since the 19th-century rediscovery of the site of Troy in what is now western Turkey, archaeologists have uncovered increasing evidence of a kingdom that peaked and may have been destroyed around 1,180 B.C.β€”perhaps forming the basis for the tales recounted by Homer some 400 years later in the β€œIliad” and the β€œOdyssey.”

    The Trojan War Part 3 (The long hard dick of Zeus) Aug 19, 2019

    The Iliad is an ancient Greek epic poem in dactylic hexameter, traditionally attributed to Homer. Set during the Trojan War, the ten-year siege of the city of Troy by a coalition of Greek states, it tells of the battles and events during the weeks of a quarrel between King Agamemnon and the warrior Achilles.

    Behold the Masters of War (Trojan wars) Part 2 Aug 15, 2019

    The story of the Trojan War has fascinated humans for centuries and has given rise to countless scholarly articles and books, extensive archaeological excavations, epic movies, television documentaries, stage plays, art and sculpture, souvenirs and collectibles. In the United States there are thirty-three states with cities or towns named Troy and ten four-year colleges and universities, besides the University of Southern California, whose sports teams are called the Trojans. Particularly captivating is the account of the Trojan Horse, the daring plan that brought the Trojan War to an end and that has also entered modern parlance by giving rise to the saying β€œBeware of Greeks bearing gifts” and serving as a metaphor for hackers intent on wreaking havoc by inserting a β€œTrojan horse” into computer systems.

    The Trojan Wars Part 1 (Beware of Greeks) Aug 14, 2019

    Trojan War, in Greek mythology, war between the Greeks and the people of Troy . The strife began after the Trojan prince Paris abducted Helen , wife of Menelaus of Sparta. When Menelaus demanded her return, the Trojans refused. Menelaus then persuaded his brother Agamemnon to lead an army against Troy. At Aulis, troopships gathered, led by the greatest Greek heroesβ€” Achilles , Patroclus, Diomedes , Odysseus , Nestor , and the two warriors named Ajax . In order to win favorable winds for the journey, Agamemnon sacrificed his daughter Iphigenia to Artemis. The winds came and the fleet set sail for Troy. For nine years the Greeks ravaged Troy's surrounding cities and countryside, but the city itself, well fortified and commanded by Hector and other sons of the royal household, held out. Finally the Greeks built a large hollow wooden horse in which a small group of warriors were concealed. The other Greeks appeared to sail for home, leaving behind only the horse and Sinon, who deceitfully persuaded the Trojans, despite the warnings of Cassandra and LaocoΓΆn , to take the horse within the city walls. At night the Greeks returned; their companions crept out of the horse and opened the city gates, and Troy was destroyed. The gods took great interest in the war. Poseidon, Hera, and Athena aided the Greeks, while Aphrodite and Ares favored the Trojans. Zeus and Apollo, although frequently involved in the action of the war, remained impartial. The events of the final year of the war constitute the main part of the Iliad of Homer. The Trojan War probably reflected a real war (c.1200 BC) between the invading Greeks and the people of Troas , possibly over control of trade through the Dardanelles.

    California Well Traveled Haunted Sites Jul 24, 2019

    Back again with another California episode, Covering today; Queen Mary, Winchester mystery house, and the Whaley house.
    Skeptics say that everything attributed to wayward spirits has a logical explanation.

    But that isn't very helpful, is it? Is the old ship actually haunted? She was called the Grey Ghost during her years as a World War II transport ship, but that was because of her color and speed, not for any stray spirits.

    During her 60-year history, the Queen Mary was the site of 49 reported deaths, so there are plenty of potential spirits to haunt her hallways. With her service long over, the Queen Mary has become associated with ghosts: more than a dozen apparitions have been reported aboard the ship. Reported hauntings include a young crewman in the engine room, swimmers in the first-class pool, a man in black, and a woman in blue. In the Hotel Queen Mary, Room B340 is said to be one of the most haunted places on the ship.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The Winchester Mystery House is a mansion in San Jose, California, that was once the personal residence of Sarah Winchester, the widow of firearm magnate William Wirt Winchester. Located at 525 South Winchester Blvd. in San Jose, the Queen Anne Style Victorian mansion is renowned for its size, its architectural curiosities, and its lack of any master building plan. It is a designated California historical landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is privately owned and serves as a tourist attraction.
    Since its construction in 1884, the property and mansion were claimed by many to be haunted by the ghosts of those killed with Winchester rifles. Under Winchester's day-to-day guidance, its "from-the-ground-up" construction proceeded around the clock, by some accounts, without interruption, until her death on September 5, 1922, at which time work immediately ceased.[3] Sarah Winchester's biographer, however, says that Winchester "routinely dismissed workers for months at a time 'to take such rest as I might'" and notes that "this flies in the face of claims by today's Mystery House proprietors that work at the ranch was ceaseless for thirty-eight years."[4]
    Sex. And the horrors of Catholic Sexual education. Jul 07, 2019
    Abstinence-only sex education is a form of sex education that teaches not having sex outside of marriage. It often excludes other types of sexual and reproductive health education, such as birth control and safe sex. Comprehensive sex education, by contrast, covers the use of birth control and sexual abstinence.
    Research shows that abstinence-only programs aren't effective because they don't prevent pregnancy. These programs also often fail to educate young people about contraceptive use or how to avoid sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The Trump administration, however, continues to promoteSRA programs. In fiscal year 2019, the federal government has spent $110 million on funding such curriculum.
    Every year 640,000 teens are infected with genital herpes and approximately 4.2 million teens between the ages of 15 and 24 have this incurable STD (Rogers, Augustine, & Alford, 2005). Each year 20,000 new cases of HIV occur in people under the age of 25 (Rogers, Augustine, & Alford, 2005). In 2000 there were 9 million new sexually transmitted infections in youth ages 15 to 24 (Morrison et. al., 2007). 2.8% of girls between the ages of 15 and 19 have Chlamydia (Morrison et. al., 2007). In 2000, 697,000 women under the age of 20 had an unintended pregnancy (Rogers, Augustine, & Alford, 2005). These numbers are atrocious and show that we are not properly educating our teens about sex. This is understandable considering 33% of schools give students abstinence only education (Keiser Family Foundation, 2002). Abstinence only education tells teenagers that abstinence from sex until marriage is the ONLY option for teenagers (Keiser Family Foundation, 2002). They do NOT give students any information about contraception or safe sex (Keiser Family Foundation, 2002).
    Jim Jones (Pt. 1 the early years) Jun 27, 2019
    James Warren Jones (May 13, 1931 – November 18, 1978) was an American charismatic religious cult leader who conspired with his inner circle to direct a mass suicide and mass murder of his followers in the remote jungle of Jonestown, Guyana. He was the founder and leader of the Peoples Temple, which he started in his home state of Indiana during the 1950s. He was officially ordained in 1956 by the Independent Assemblies of God and in 1964 by the Disciples of Christ.[note 1] He moved his congregation to California in 1965 and gained notoriety with its activities in San Francisco in the early to late 1970s. He then left the United States when he relocated the group to Guyana, a country on the northern mainland of South America.
    In 1978, media reports surfaced that human rights abuses were taking place in the Peoples Temple in Jonestown. U.S. Representative Leo Ryan led a delegation to the commune to investigate what was going on, but he and others were murdered by gunfire while boarding a return flight with some former cult members who had wished to leave. Jones then ordered a mass murder-suicide of 918 of his followers, 304 of whom were children, almost all by cyanide-poisoned Flavoraid
    Stigmatized Properties and other Spooky California Haunts (Part 2) Jun 24, 2019
    Selling a home can be challenging even in the best of times. The various obstacles you have to overcome to get a house sold tend to motivate sellers to put their best foot forward, which is understandable.
    Every seller wants to sell – as quickly as possible and for as high a price as the market will bear.
    But what happens when you are selling a home that carries its baggage – like a home where someone committed suicide, was murdered, or a home that is known to be haunted by paranormal activity? If you are one of the owners of such a house, it is vital that you be aware of the laws in your state concerning disclosure.
    You are selling what is known as a stigmatized property, and you may (or may not) be required to disclose the unique issues about your home to buyers before you make a sale.
    Therefore finding out from your real estate agent or attorney if revealing haunted homes, paranormal activity, murder, and suicide at your property are necessary becomes paramount!
    Getting sued is probably not something most people want to experience. Real Estate agents and homeowners should always educate themselves on what their responsibilities entail.
    The girl next door 2 Jun 21, 2019
    The murder of Sylvia Likens was a child murder which occurred in Indianapolis, Indiana in October 1965. Likens, a 16-year-old girl, was held captive and subjected to increasing levels of child abuse, neglect, humiliation, and torture committed over a period of almost three months by her caregiver, Gertrude Baniszewski, many of Baniszewski's children, and several other neighborhood children before ultimately succumbing to her injuries on October 26.
    Baniszewski; her oldest daughter, Paula; her son, John; and two neighborhood youths, Coy Hubbard and Richard Hobbs, were all tried and convicted in May 1966 of neglecting, torturing, and murdering Sylvia, with counsels at the defendants' trial describing the case as the "most diabolical" ever to be presented before a court or jury[1] and Sylvia having been subjected to acts of "degradation that you wouldn't commit on a dog" prior to her death.[2][3]
    The torture and murder of Sylvia Likens is widely regarded by Indiana citizens as the worst crime ever committed in their state[4][5] and has been described by a senior investigator in the Indianapolis Police Department as the "most sadistic" case he had ever investigated in the 35 years he served with the Indianapolis police.
    Ghost towns, lost locations, long closed attractions, and areas that time has simply forgotten . . .
    In a big part, thanks to the gold rush, California has an over abundance of things long since abandoned and forgotten. Add in all the infamous urban decay the state has, and there's a lot of long lost sites to see.     The mysterious case of the Black Dahlia murder Jun 06, 2019
    Twenty-two-year-old Elizabeth Short was found brutally murdered on January 15, 1947. She was severed at the waist and left naked in a vacant lot in the Los Angeles area. The newspapers nicknamed her the β€œBlack Dahlia” after a film noir murder mystery, The Blue Dahlia, which was released nine months prior to her murder. The Los Angeles Police Department proceeded with a deep and lengthy investigation into Elizabeth Short’s death. After shifting through a list of hundreds of suspects, many false reports and witnesses, and several false murder confessions, the police struggled to make progress in the murder case. The Black Dahlia would quickly become one of Los Angeles’s most infamous cases, and the case still remains unsolved almost seventy years later.
    The toy-box killer, David Parker Ray (part 1) May 27, 2019
    David Parker Ray (November 6, 1939 – May 28, 2002), also known as the Toy-Box Killer,[1] was an American suspected serial killer and known torturer of women. Though no bodies were found, he was accused by his accomplices of killing several people and suspected by the police to have murdered as many as 60 people from Arizona and New Mexico, while living in Elephant Butte, New Mexico, approximately 7 miles north of Truth or Consequences.[2] He soundproofed a truck trailer that he called his "toy box", and equipped it with items used for sexual torture.[3] Ray was convicted of kidnapping and torture in 2001, for which he received a lengthy sentence, but he was never convicted of murder. He died of a heart attack about one year after his convictions in two cases (the second of which resulted in a plea deal).
    The town that dreaded sundown (the shocking true story of the phantom killer) May 23, 2019
    Before the "Phantom-attacks", which occurred about eight months after World War II, Texarkana was pleasant and citizens were preparing for a good future. On the night of Sunday, March 3, 1946, Sammy Fuller and Linda Mae Jenkins park on a lovers' lane. Soon, the hood of the car opens and closes and a man with a bag over his head with holes cut out for his eyes is seen holding wires he had yanked from the engine. While Sammy tries starting the car, the man breaks his window and pulls him out, cutting him on the broken glass. The man then gets inside the car with Linda.
    The next morning, Linda is found on the side of the road barely alive. While at the crime scene, Deputy Norman Ramsey reports that both victims are still alive. He leaves a message for Sheriff Barker to meet him at Michael-Meagher Hospital. At the hospital, a doctor tells Sheriff Barker that Linda was not raped but that her back, stomach, and breasts were "heavily bitten; literally chewed." At the police station, Barker suggests to Police Chief Sullivan to warn teens and college students from parking on lonely roads.
    On March 24, while investigating a lovers' lane in heavy rain, Ramsey hears gunshots and finds Howard W. Turner dead in a ditch and the corpse of his girlfriend, Emma Lou Cook, tied to a tree. Ramsey spots the hooded man escaping in a car. Panicked, the town sells out of guns and other home safety equipment. Sheriff Barker calls in help and tells Ramsey they are getting the most famous criminal investigator in the country, the "Lone Wolf" of the Texas Rangers, Captain J.D. Morales. After arriving, Morales explains he will be in charge of the investigation and calls the unidentified attacker a Phantom. Ramsey is assigned to assist Morales, and Patrolman A.C. "Sparkplug" Benson is to be his driver.
    At the barber shop, Ramsey explains to Morales his theory that the Phantom attacks every 21 days. The next attack falls on the day of a high school prom, and decoys are set up on the edges of town. After the dance, on April 14, trombone player Peggy Loomis leaves with her boyfriend Roy Allen. Despite her worries, they go to Spring Lake Park in the middle of town. When they leave, the Phantom jumps on the driver's door and pulls Roy out of the car, causing Peggy to crash. She flees as the Phantom beats Roy, but he catches her and ties her hands around a tree. Roy awakens, but is shot to death while attempting to escape. The Phantom attaches a pocket knife to the distal end of the slide of Peggy's trombone and kills her while "playing" the instrument by repeatedly projecting the slide-with-knife forward into her back while she is tied to the tree.
    Morales and other officers meet with psychiatrist Dr. Kress at a restaurant, where he explains that the Phantom is a highly intelligent sadist with a strong sex drive, between the ages of 35 and 40. As Kress expresses his doubts about their chances of capturing the Phantom, the Phantom's shoes are shown, revealing that he had heard the entire conversation. At the station, a man named Johnson says that he was robbed and forced to drive a man to Lufkin at gunpoint. While on the road, Ramsey receives a report about an armed suspect, and a brief chase ensues. The suspect, Eddie LeDoux, at first denies everything, then confesses to being the Phantom, but Morales is unconvinced. Johnson identifies him as his robber.
    Subscriber-only episode
    From the time Europeans arrived on American shores, the frontierβ€”the edge territory between white man’s civilization and the untamed natural worldβ€”became a shared space of vast, clashing differences that led the U.S. government to authorize over 1,500 wars, attacks and raids on Indians, the most of any country in the world against its indigenous people. By the close of the Indian Wars in the late 19th century, fewer than 238,000 indigenous people remained, a sharp decline from the estimated 5 million to 15 million living in North America when Columbus arrived in 1492.
    • In West Virginia folklore, the Mothman is a creature reportedly seen in the Point Pleasant area from November 12, 1966, to December 15, 1967. The first newspaper report was published in the Point Pleasant Register dated November 16, 1966, titled "Couples See Man-Sized Bird ... Creature ... Something". The national press soon picked up the reports and helped spread the story across the United States.
    • The Mothman was introduced to a wider audience by Gray Barker in 1970 and later popularized by John Keel in his 1975 book The Mothman Prophecies, claiming that there were supernatural events related to the sightings, and a connection to the collapse of the Silver Bridge.
    • The Mothman appears in popular culture. The 2002 film The Mothman Prophecies, starring Richard Gere, was based on Keel's book. An annual festival in Point Pleasant is devoted to the Mothman legend.
