Miami's Offense Proves Speed Can Mask Any Issue Oct 09, 2023

Show notes

The New York Giants forced the Miami Dolphins into three turnovers yesterday but couldn't parlay them into a win Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw two interceptions, including a pick-six, but it wasn't enough to derail an offense that scored on two separate three-play drives.

Coach Mike McDaniel continues to flash his background as a run game coordinator as De'Von Achane ran for 151 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. In comparison, Raheem Mostert added another 65 yards and another touchdown. Overall, the Dolphins averaged 9.7 yards on the ground and improved to 2-0 at home with a 15-point win over the Giants.

Week 5 Game Preview: Dolphins Host Struggling Giants at Hard Rock Stadium + Miami signed 'Mapletron'!? Oct 06, 2023

Show notes

The Miami Dolphins return home on Sunday to host the New York Giants after falling 48-20 in Buffalo last weekend. The Giants have lost back-to-back games, and quarterback Daniel Jones was sacked nine times last week and has been sacked at least seven times twice this season — making Week 5's matchup an opportunity to get back on track after a couple of bumpy performances on the road.

Offensively, De'Von Achane continues to be the center of attention after needing just two weeks to rush for 300 yards. He leads the league in yards after contact — another layer to Miami's high-powered offensive attack. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was sacked four times last week. Will Miami's offense settle in or continue falling down the charts?

In a shocking twist, the Dolphins decided to trade for Chase Claypool. Tune in for instant reaction and the lastest news ahead of the Week 5 matchup.

Week 5 Game Preview: Expectations are High for Tua Tagovailoa and Miami's Offense Oct 06, 2023

Show notes

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw for 282 yards, one touchdown, and one interception last week and that was deemed a decent game — look how far we've come! Miami's offense returns home on Sunday and looks to prove that a trip to Buffalo didn't ruin one of the league's best offenses.

With Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle outside, De'Von Achane emerged in the backfield, needing just two weeks to rush for 300 yards. The Dolphins feature one of the league's most balanced attacks, meaning the Giants should have their hands full for 60 minutes on Sunday.

Week 5 Game Preview: Miami's Pass Rush Should Feast Against the New York Giants Oct 06, 2023

Show notes

Andrew Van Ginkel is the only player on the Miami Dolphins with more than one sack through four games, Sunday's matchup with the New York Giants is a strong opportunity to change things. The Giants will be without three starting offensive linemen and the Seattle Seahawks sacked quarterback Daniel Jones 11 times last week.

The Dolphins only have 10 sacks this season while Jones has taken 23 sacks through four games, something will have to change come Sunday. Additionally, Jones had just 200 yards through the air last week but is always a threat on the ground. Miami will have to keep an eye on Jones after he averaged 6.6 yards per carry during Monday Night Football.

The Miami Dolphins Send Future 6th Round Draft Pick to Chicago for Chase Claypool + Terron Armstead Placed on IR Oct 06, 2023

Show notes

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa hasn't missed a beat this season as the Miami Dolphins lead the league in points and yards per game. That being said, general manager Chris Grier felt it was necessary to add another receiver to the roster following injuries to River Cracraft and Erik Ezukanma early in the season.

The Dolphins made the low-risk high-reward decision to send a sixth-round pick to the Chicago Bears for wide receiver Chase Claypool. Additionally, Miami announced on Friday that Terron Armstead is headed to injury reserve.

Is Miami's Offensive Line Falling Apart After a Promising Start? Oct 06, 2023

Show notes

The Miami Dolphins offensive line allowed just one sack through the season's first three games, but things went south as the unit allowed quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to be sacked four times last Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. While the Bills feature a powerful defensive front, injuries only added to Miami's issues in the trenches.

Center Connor Williams was forced to miss the game with a groin injury. Liam Eichenberg replaced him, allowing five pressures and two sacks. He was called for a penalty that negated a touchdown. Additionally, Terron Armstead made it through a third of the game before suffering a leg injury and he is expected to miss multiple weeks.

Was Miami's struggles due to a tough opponent, or was the team's early success in the trenches just a flash in the pan?

Midweek with Marek: De'Von Achane is HIM + Injury Updates for Connor Williams, Jaelan Phillips Oct 05, 2023

Show notes

We've discussed Sunday's 48-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills enough — WE'RE ON TO NEW YORK!

The Miami Dolphins return home for just the second time this season and look to get back on track following a three-game winning streak to begin the season. New York, coming off a performance where quarterback Daniel Jones was sacked 11 times, should be a chance to build the confidence back up following Week 4's loss.

Injury updates for Connor Williams, Jaelan Phillips, DeShon Elliot, and Jeff Wilson Jr. while more than half of New York's starting offensive line missed practice on Wednesday. Following the news, we discuss if it's time for the Dolphins to shuffle the running back depth chart and let De'Von Achane run wild.

Is It Time For De'Von Achane to be Miami's Lead Running Back? Oct 05, 2023

Show notes

Rookie running back De'Von Achane has been on fire this season — you better check your pulse if you're not fired up. The third-round pick torched the Buffalo Bills for 101 yards and two rushing touchdowns on just eight carries — despite Miami's offensive line struggling for most of the game.

Achane leads the league with a 93.5 PFF grade and averages seven yards per carry — after contact. We saw how hyped Mike McDaniel was when the Dolphins drafted Achane, but how long until he takes over as RB1?

What Did We Learn From Miami's First Week 5 Injury Report? Oct 05, 2023

Show notes

Wednesday marks the first injury report of the week — a chance to get a hint about someone's availability heading into Sunday's game against the New York Giants.

Injury updates for Connor Williams, Jaelan Phillips, and DeShon Elliot are provided. Additionally, the Dolphins active the 21-day practice window for cornerback Nik Needham and guard Robert Hunt. Meanwhile, the same can't be said for Jeff Wilson Jr.

Looking at the Giants, over half of New York's starting offensive line missed practice on Wednesday. That could be a good sign for a Dolphins' defense that features just one player with more than one sack.

Defensive Details: Why Didn't Xavien Howard Shadow Stefon Diggs and Other Questions Following Sunday's Loss Oct 04, 2023

Show notes

The Miami Dolphins struggled to get much of anything going defensively in Sunday's loss to the Buffalo Bills. Vic Fangio's defense surrendered 48 points — should anything have been done differently? Xavien Howard mentioned that he would've liked to shadow Diggs in coverage, but how much would that have changed the outcome?

The largest concern is inside linebackers, David Long Jr. and Jerome Baker simply don't look comfortable in Fangio's defense. Long missed two tackles while Baker allowed three completions in coverage. It's early in the season, can the Dolphins clean things up at linebacker?

Lastly, Andrew Van Ginkel is the only player with more than a sack through four games. While Jaelan Phillips has missed times with injuries, Miami's pass rush has struggled to disrupt opposing quarterbacks. It's early in the season — it's not time to panic, yet!
