It’s time to pick the College Football quarterfinal games, but first Andy and Ari are talking non-CFP bowls.

Dylan Raiola makes his bowl debut in Saturday's Pinstripe Bowl. In fact, most of the Cornhuskers are making their bowl debuts. But Boston College has won three of four. Michael Hawkins Jr. is back at QB for Oklahoma. Can he lead the Sooners to a win against Navy in the Armed Forces Bowl?

Now it’s time to pick the next round of the CFP. Hopefully, it won’t be four blowouts like last week. But the spreads suggest we might see some.

Penn State vs. Boise State (+10.5) in the Fiesta Bowl (Total: 52.5)

Texas vs. Arizona State (+13.5) in the Peach Bowl (Total: 51.5)

Ohio State vs. Oregon (+2.5) in the Rose Bowl (Total: 55.5)

Notre Dame vs. Georgia (-1.5) in the Sugar Bowl (Total: 44.5)

On the broadcast of the Tennessee-Ohio State game, something ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit said highlighted the chasm that sometimes exists between fans and the highest profile people who talk about the games.

Herbstreit discussed the “lunatic fringe” of the Ohio State fanbase and its desire to fire coach Ryan Day. He made it sound as if a fairly small minority of fans held that sentiment. Ari doesn’t think that’s true, and it got Andy thinking about all the examples of the times the people who bring us the games on TV didn’t quite understand the feelings of the common fan.

Plus, it’s the most wonderful time of the year! We’re going to have bowl games every day, and we’ll have a full weekend of college football on Friday and Saturday. NIL deals seem to have swung bowl opt-outs back in the other direction with seemingly more stars playing this year. So which games seem the most exciting?

Friday

Oklahoma-Navy in the Armed Forces Bowl (Michael Hawkins at QB for Oklahoma)

Georgia Tech-Vanderbilt in the Birmingham Bowl

Texas Tech-Arkansas in the Liberty Bowl

Syracuse-Washington State in the Holiday Bowl

USC-Texas A&M in the Las Vegas Bowl

UCon-North Carolina in the Fenway Bowl

Boston College-Nebraska in the Pinstripe Bowl

It’s a Dear Andy and Ari show, but before we answer your questions, we’ve got to talk about some news and some College Football Playoff games.

Washington State transfer quarterback John Mateer, the No. 1 player in the portal, committed to Oklahoma. He’ll follow former Cougars offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle, who just took the same job in Norman.

Next, Andy and Ari preview Saturday’s Clemson-Texas showdown in Austin.

Later, Mike Golic Jr. (Gojo and Golic) joins to talk College Football Playoffs. Golic, a former Notre Dame offensive lineman, explains what it means for the playoff to come to South Bend. Golic also will be co-hosting Bleacher Report’s pre-game show for the SMU-Penn State game, and he breaks down how Penn State’s playcalling may have to change without an experienced backup QB on the roster.

Now it’s time for your questions…

A viewer suggests a better way to set the CFP matchups…

Which non-bowl team from 2024 could be in the College Football Playoff in 2025?

Ari is tired of hearing about the weather.

Producer River, meanwhile, thinks his fellow Volunteers are preparing to invade Columbus and turn the Horseshoe (at least partially) orange.

Plus, the Branch brothers hitting the transfer portal is yet another piece of bad news for USC. Andy thinks it’s time to panic. Meanwhile, Ari has grown completely apathetic when it comes to Lincoln Riley.
