Fundamentalism and Its Aftermath: Q&A Session Nov 06, 2020
    Show notes

What are things practiced today that reflect bad fundamentals? What is the interaction between fundamentalism and rules? This is the Q&A session from our live event on October 24, 2020. In this session, Chester Weaver, Matt Landis, and Marlin Sommers respond to questions that our audience asked in response to the first part of our live event (episode 101A). This is the second part of the 101st episode of Anabaptist Perspectives, a podcast, blog, and YouTube channel that examines various aspects of conservative Anabaptist life and thought. Read our blog: https://www.anabaptistperspectives.org/blog/ Visit our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/anabaptistperspectives/ Connect with us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/anabaptistperspectives/ Support us: https://anabaptistperspectives.org/donate/ Music: "The Basket" by Blue Dot Sessions The views expressed by our guests are solely their own and do not necessarily reflect the views of Anabaptist Perspectives or Wellspring Mennonite Church.

    Mentioned in this episode:

    Bridge Campaign

For nine years, generous supporters have enabled Anabaptist Perspectives to publish regular, upbuilding content. Essays, episodes, the teaching series of Frank Reed, and this summer, Anabaptist Origins: all released freely across a wide range of platforms. Our team grew to meet the production demands of the past two years, with that growth largely funded by giving raised for specific projects like Origins. That giving did what it was meant to do and has now been spent. While our monthly supporter base has grown to over 130 members, their giving does not yet cover ongoing production costs. Current supporters provide an incredibly valuable foundation, so a lack of additional donors would not stop the work, but it would slow considerably. Staying within our current base would mean scaling back hours, publishing less often, and setting the larger projects aside. You have a real say in what we can and cannot do. To sustain what we have built and carry some margin into next year, we are seeking $50,000 by the end of November. Thanks to generous donors, the first $12,000 of this will be matched dollar for dollar. If this work matters to you and you want to keep it going, you can give at anabaptistperspectives.org/keep (or by check to Anabaptist Perspectives, 127 County Road 616, Athens, TN 37303) P.S. If you are unable to give right now, you can still help by passing an episode along to someone who may be blessed by it.

    Apostasy of the 1960s May 14, 2020
    Show notes

Chester Weaver was raised in a Lancaster Mennonite Conference church. As he considers the changes that happened within Lancaster Mennonite Conference in the 1960s, he traces the root causes back to ideas, especially the emphases on fundamentalism and liberalism. Chester observes that some of these very same ideas are being found in moderately conservative Mennonites today. He pleads with us to not repeat history but to learn from it.
