Foundations for a Christian Economic Vision Mar 17, 2022
    Show notes

What are the basic ideas for understanding how Christians should value and relate to money? John D. Martin points us to the Old Testament year of Jubilee and Jesus’s teachings about laying up treasures. He challenges us to embrace Jesus’s values and ensure we are worshiping him, not money.

    Bridge Campaign

For nine years, generous supporters have enabled Anabaptist Perspectives to publish regular, upbuilding content. Essays, episodes, the teaching series of Frank Reed, and this summer, Anabaptist Origins: all released freely across a wide range of platforms. Our team grew to meet the production demands of the past two years, with that growth largely funded by giving raised for specific projects like Origins. That giving did what it was meant to do and has now been spent. While our monthly supporter base has grown to over 130 members, their giving does not yet cover ongoing production costs. Current supporters provide an incredibly valuable foundation, so a lack of additional donors would not stop the work, but it would slow considerably. Staying within our current base would mean scaling back hours, publishing less often, and setting the larger projects aside. You have a real say in what we can and cannot do. To sustain what we have built and carry some margin into next year, we are seeking $50,000 by the end of November. Thanks to generous donors, the first $12,000 of this will be matched dollar for dollar. If this work matters to you and you want to keep it going, you can give at anabaptistperspectives.org/keep (or by check to Anabaptist Perspectives, 127 County Road 616, Athens, TN 37303) P.S. If you are unable to give right now, you can still help by passing an episode along to someone who may be blessed by it.

#GivingTuesday - An Update from our Founders Nov 30, 2021

This week our special Ask Anabaptist Anything Podcast

(normally reserved for monthly partners) is available for all supporters and

fans. Thanks so much for your interest and support for Anabaptist Perspectives!

In this piece Reagan and Jaran give a brief update and

explain why our financial partners are so important to the mission. We are

excited to continue producing content for Season 4 and following.

    Transcript

It’s time for a quick update on the Anabaptist Perspectives

mission and impact as well as our current needs. Over the last 4 years we have

been privileged to release over 140 episodes. Right now things are a bit quiet

on our channels, as we are hard at work behind the scenes

Next spring, we will roll out Season 4. Thanks to generous

donors we were able to upgrade our filming and recording gear.

We have also developed our ability to do high quality remote

interviews—a huge step up from the Zoom calls we have used in the past.

Its been humbling to see how some of our episodes have been

the right thing at the right time for some people. For example Jeff writes from

    England:

    “I hope

you're not closing down this YouTube channel though. As I have learnt so much

and have been challenged in my faith and walk in Christ. I now consider myself

to be an Anabaptist Kingdom Christian..... I believe that God will do something

huge here in the South East of England where I live as result of the flame

that's been kindled in my heart to see the Lord do something really radical as

a result of the teaching I have received from some of amazing people

    that have interviewed here!”

Thanks for the encouragement Jeff! We wish you and your

    region God’s blessing.

Back in 2017 when Reagan and I started this channel we

    defined two objectives:

    1. To describe and defend Anabaptist

theology and biblical elements of contemporary Anabaptist lifestyle.

    2. To promote biblical discussions among

Anabaptist people about social and cultural issue while providing non-Anabaptist

people with ways to think about social and cultural issues that differ from the

    dominant media and news sources.

While we might say it a bit differently 4 years later, that

vision still undergirds Anabaptist Perspectives. If anything we are reaffirming

and strengthening our commitment to depth and integrity in our conversations on

theology, culture, and lifestyle. We seek to inspire thoughtful, faithful

    living.

From day one we have focused on “accessible online media.”

We started with YouTube, Facebook, and a podcast. We knew this was where the

media needed to be for our generation.

Since then, we have added a Telegram and CloudVeil group and

    Instagram

We have also developed our own blog called “Essays for King

Jesus”, which has its own Telegram/CloudVeil group and a separate podcast

    featuring audio recordings.

As we look forward to 2022 and the coming years, personnel

are key to maximize the many opportunities in front of us. We have gathered a

great team, and would love for them to be able to spend more consistent time

driving these projects forward. To do that we need to extend our financial

    support base.

From the beginning we have been supported by those who share

our vision. We are very grateful to all of you who support us with monthly

financial contributions or periodic donations. This organization exists because

of you. Currently we have about 75 monthly partners. For Anabaptist

Perspectives to be continue to grow, we need many more monthly partners.

As a Monthly partner you will have access regular bonus

content, in addition to our normal episodes, as well as our partner exclusive

    questions.

Managers in God's Household: Stewardship in Fresh Perspective Sep 16, 2021
    Show notes

Biblically, stewardship includes our skills and social roles, not just our use of money. It is about the role we play in God’s household. Marlin Sommers, Kyle Stoltzfus, and Reagan Schrock discuss these concepts and how they can practically play out. Marlin shows us how being a manager in God’s household is much more involved than it is often given credit for.

This conversation is based around three essays Marlin wrote for our blog: “Essays for King Jesus.” Watch a short animated video based on the first essay: https://vimeo.com/605618387/a7a5591954

The Man Who Stayed Catholic: Erasmus Aug 19, 2021
    Show notes

What should Anabaptists (and Protestants) learn from this scholar who stayed with the Catholic church? Why did Erasmus refuse to leave his church? Stephen Russell tells about the life, writings, and convictions of Desiderius Erasmus.

“Looking at one man like this, Erasmus, who did not become a protestant and did not become an Anabaptist and yet greatly shaped both: I think it should help us realize we need to try to understand history, understand people where they were, and see how that can help us understand our own roots and understand where we are today.”
