Microfinance, Evangelism, and Discipleship Jan 25, 2024
    Show notes

Amata Thomas, a bishop for Christian Believers Fellowship, discusses how business and finance training can integrate with discipleship and evangelism. He explains how Open Hands, the ministry that he works for, coordinates savings groups where participants support each other in completing a training program that moves trainees away from financial vulnerability, exposes them more deeply to Christ and his word, and encourages restoration of four fundamental relationships: God, others, self, and creation. This and similar programs have helped to stabilize and grow the vulnerable, orienting them toward standing together in Christian community.

    Bridge Campaign

For nine years, generous supporters have enabled Anabaptist Perspectives to publish regular, upbuilding content. Essays, episodes, the teaching series of Frank Reed, and this summer, Anabaptist Origins: all released freely across a wide range of platforms. Our team grew to meet the production demands of the past two years, with that growth largely funded by giving raised for specific projects like Origins. That giving did what it was meant to do and has now been spent. While our monthly supporter base has grown to over 130 members, their giving does not yet cover ongoing production costs. Current supporters provide an incredibly valuable foundation, so a lack of additional donors would not stop the work, but it would slow considerably. Staying within our current base would mean scaling back hours, publishing less often, and setting the larger projects aside. You have a real say in what we can and cannot do. To sustain what we have built and carry some margin into next year, we are seeking $50,000 by the end of November. Thanks to generous donors, the first $12,000 of this will be matched dollar for dollar. If this work matters to you and you want to keep it going, you can give at anabaptistperspectives.org/keep (or by check to Anabaptist Perspectives, 127 County Road 616, Athens, TN 37303) P.S. If you are unable to give right now, you can still help by passing an episode along to someone who may be blessed by it.

Why Care about Apologetics? Dec 28, 2023
    Show notes

Jesus appealed to prophecies and to his “works” do call people to faith in him. Peter and Paul used apologetic methods suited for their audiences. Daniel Yoder thoughtfully introduces a few topics and methods of Christian apologetics (from the Greek apologia, “defense, answer”) and defends the importance of this mode of thinking for strengthening believers and for engaging with unbelievers. While Anabaptists may have invested less in formal apologetics than some other traditions, the early Anabaptists very much cared about proclaiming Jesus as Lord and explaining their beliefs to others. This is an example we should follow.
