Hollywood's Haunted Theaters Oct 13, 2020

Show notes

What is about a theater that seems to attract a ghost? Could it be the range of emotions expressed by the actors, from joy to sorrow to fear? Perhaps all that emotion attracts spirits who need that energy to exist. Or perhaps terrible or tragic events occur in a theater – just as they do in other kinds of buildings – and that leaves an impression behind as a haunting.

BONUS: The Los Feliz Murder House Oct 06, 2020

Show notes

In 1959, Harold Perelson seemed to be a man with everything going for him. He had a distinguished career as a doctor, a beautiful wife, loving children, and a wonderful home in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles that was ideal for what seemed to be the perfect family.

And then on the night of December 6, neighbors were awakened by the sound of Harold Perelson’s daughter, Judye, screaming and banging on their door...When the police arrived, they entered the Perelson house and found Harold’s wife, Lillian, dead in her bed and Harold himself dead from a massive drug overdose. He had apparently committed suicide.

A copy of Dante’s DIVINE COMEDY was open on Harold’s nightstand, highlighting a passage that read:

Midway upon the journey of our life, I found myself within a forest dark, for the straightforward pathway had been lost…

It might as well have been Harold’s suicide note.

Hollywood Studio Hauntings Sep 29, 2020

Show notes

What makes Hollywood – “Hollywood?” The movies, of course, and the movie stars. But behind the façade – where the sausage is made, so to speak, are the studios where the magic happens. And the desperate spirits who refuse to vacate long after the director has called "cut."

Mullholland's Fall And The St. Francis Dam Collapse Sep 15, 2020

Show notes

At just three minutes before midnight on March 12, 1928, the St. Francis Dam, which had been designed as a reservoir for the Los Angeles water supply by William Mulholland, suddenly failed, releasing 11 billion gallons of water into a narrow valley in northeastern Los Angeles County, destroying everything in its path. Over the course of the next four hours, a roaring wall of water swept through the night, traveling 55 miles from the San Francisquito Valley, through the Santa Clara Valley, and on to the Pacific Ocean.

BONUS: Horror of the Heights Aug 25, 2020

Show notes

On this bonus episode, Troy discusses the "Phantom of the Heights", a tall, thin figure, dressed all in black, who began sprinting across the rooftops of O’Donnell Heights. It leapt on and off buildings, broke into houses, attacked people, enticed a young girl to crawl under a car and played music in the nearby graveyard. Groups of young men patrolled the streets, while others waited by their windows at night, keeping a sleepy watch for the “Phantom Prowler” that eluded his pursuers and vanished into the cemetery before he could be caught.
