'STAR WARS THEOLOGY' - A sermon by Rev. Barbara Prose (Contemporary Service) Jan 28, 2018
    Show notes

The sermon was delivered on Sunday, January 28, 2018, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Barbara Prose, Executive Director of Ministry. SERMON DESCRIPTION "This is how we win. Not by fighting what we hate, but by saving what we love," says Rose Tico in the latest Star Wars movie, The Last Jedi. With women in the highest leadership positions, a deep reverence for the galaxy and science, the danger of heroic solo acts exposed … the core tension is about whether the Jedi Faith can or will survive. With Annie Lenox's song, A Thousand Beautiful Things as a backdrop, we will explore a theology of the future and of resistance, so we can say with Ms. Lenox, "Every day I write the list of reasons why I still believe they do exist." '50 YEARS OF DREAMING' - Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar (Humanist Service) Jan 14, 2018
    Show notes

The message was delivered on Sunday, January 14, 2018, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister, at the Humanist Service. MESSAGE DESCRIPTION Martin Luther King Jr. was only given seven minutes to speak at the March on Washington. He submitted his speech prior to the day of the march and the words, "I Have A Dream" were not in his prepared remarks. Nevertheless, his speech lasted 25 minutes and fifty years later, we still hold tightly to the dream he shared that day. It remains one of the most influential speeches in US history. Looking back a half century, I will explore what his words mean for us today. 'THE CARE OF LOVE' - A sermon by Bishop Carlton D. Pearson (Contemporary Service) Jan 07, 2018
    Show notes

The sermon was delivered on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Bishop Carlton D. Pearson, Affiliate Minister. SERMON DESCRIPTION We are starting off the new year with the topic of love. Love is a human disease or dis-ease that all humans are afflicted and inflicted with. This 'divine' infliction is incurable and sometimes terminal, but always treatable. Scripture says love is patient. I say love is a patient and in need of constant,"affordable" healthcare. Whether Agape, Eros, Platonic or Phileo, love not only cares but needs care, and we are both the caregivers and caretakers. Join me to learn ways to manage the pleasure, privileges, and pathos of love. 'ALL THINGS NEW' - Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar (Humanist Service) Jan 07, 2018
    Show notes

The message was delivered on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister, at the Humanist Service. MESSAGE DESCRIPTION On the first Sunday of 2018, let's look at what it means to begin again in love. How do we "turn over a new leaf" and experience "all things new"? Often we long for a new beginning but have trouble letting go of the past. The turn of the calendar year is a chance to begin again. A new year gives us a new starting line if we choose to make it one. We have a choice to live intentionally or to allow ourselves to be carried along or controlled by the people, events, and agendas of those around us. The new year is a time to go inward and reach deeper within. Let's take this great opportunity to sharpen our intentions and take greater control of our lives. SERMON DESCRIPTION There are some great Christmas stories out there, including Ralphie's and his BB gun. But you know, there are not that many great New Year's Eve stories. Yes, we know that the next day will bring a new year full of hope. That's enough, one would think. But let's unpack this hope a little bit more.
