    Show notes

From eating bugs to breaking bread across cultures, our first guest today knows a lot about food. You likely know Andrew Zimmern from his long resume of cable TV shows, including “Bizarre Foods.” Andrew is using his platform to talk about the inequities in our food supply chain and the ugly truth that we don’t see in our food delivery system from the fields to the table. He also mentioned the hidden agenda of all his shows and where Jeffrey can find the elusive “Black Lobster” that may not be black at all.

Old friend, Peter Shankman, joins Jeffrey for the second part of the show. He is the Futurist-in-Residence at Epic Marketing Consultants Corporation, and he’s also known for creating HARO (Help a Reporter Out) -- a platform to help journalists find expert sources for their stories. In this fast-talking conversation, Peter and Jeffrey talk candidly about neurodiversity and the gifts of truly thinking different. The men cover marketing, how companies are responding to COVID-19 and BLM, If privacy is a myth in the digital age and even get into dad jokes. Buckle up, these two old friends cover a lot of ground.

AB 254 Live! Bonus Episode -- From the Gridiron to the Boardroom with Bret Lockett and Tom Flick Jun 13, 2020
    Show notes

On the field and in the boardroom, everyone has their job to do and teamwork contributes to the overall success of the company and the team.

Earlier this week, former NFL players Bret Lockett and Tom Flick joined the C-Suite Network for a digital discussion on the parallels in leadership between business and football.

Defense takes the field first. Bret Lockett is a former NFL safety who played under Bill Belichick on the New England Patriots for three years. Coach Belichick is known for creating a system where everyone is assigned their job and does it to the best of their abilities. Once everyone on the team buys into that mindset, success is soon to follow. Bret says business is no different. He talked to Jeffrey about current events, Black Lives Matter, and his true feelings on the National Football League’s response to it all.

Next comes the offense with Quarterback Tom Flick. Tom spent parts of his career backing up Hall of Fame quarterbacks Dan Fouts and Joe Theismann. He wasn’t just a student of the game, he became a student himself, learning from some of the biggest names in leadership. Tom says people want to be inspired and lead. He also told Jeffrey that in business, most managerial mindsets are stuck in the last century, adding that the best way to become a great leader is to observe great leaders, have humility, and become a lifelong learner.

AB 253 Live! Happing Camping: KOA is Open for Business with Toby O’Rourke

Summer is here and Americans are ready to go on vacation and for many that means camping.

Today, Jeffrey was joined by KOA President & CEO, Toby O’Rourke, to talk about the changes the camping industry has faced and why they’ll become an essential part in the nation’s recovery. Toby says it’s a timeless business, but its constantly changing. One family’s tent could be another family’s glamped-out RV. But KOA doesn’t just cater to what you think of traditional campers. The campgrounds play a vital role to traveling workers from healthcare to construction. She also talks about how KOA navigated the COVID-19 pandemic and the unusual shift KOA found itself in during quarantine.

AB 252 Live! The Tortoise and the Hare: Negotiation vs. Acceleration Jun 11, 2020
    Show notes

Business moves fast, but the most important things take the most time. In this episode of All Business with Jeffrey Hayzlett, we hear from two business experts with different approaches.

The COVID-19 pandemic jump-started change, including some of the largest businesses and brands. Our first guest knows this first-hand. Tara Walpert Levy is the Vice President of Agency and Brand Solutions at Google and YouTube. She says the pandemic didn’t create trends, it accelerated them. For example, she says many companies toyed for years with digital transformation, only to end up plunging right in and going digital for survival sake. So, how do businesses know if these changes worked? She says that metric is as old as business itself. It all comes down to outcomes.

Our next guest says you’re always negotiating. Greg Williams is The Master Negotiator and is a world-renowned expert on negotiation and body language. Greg says whoever’s asking the questions is in control of the negotiation. Listen closely, Greg proves it during the interview and throws Jeffrey for a loop at the same time. He also tells you why you can’t go in the room looking for a deal and how important mindset is in those situations. If you need to close a big deal, this is a must listen.

AB 251 Live! Prescription for Winning with Patrick McLean and Lisa Rehurek Jun 10, 2020
    Show notes

If you think there seems to be a Walgreen’s on every corner, you’re not wrong. With more than 9,200 stores, they are one of the largest drug store chains in the U.S. Today’s first guest, Patrick McLean is the CMO for Walgreen’s, meaning he runs all the marketing for the pharmacy giant. Patrick and Jeffrey talk about some of the fast changes Walgreen’s staffers made during the pandemic, including what to do with 9 million red noses for the “Red Nose Day” fundraiser. Patrick also talked about how the pharmacist’s role at the stores has slowly changed from prescription filler to community builder.

Winning a Request for Proposal (RFP) can make or break many businesses. So how do you stand out? Lisa Rehurek based her business on it. Lisa is the Founder & CEO, The RFP Success Company and she helps companies win RFPs. Even she admits the process and the proposals themselves can be boring. Her advice: design the bones first and fill in the details later. Also, take advantage of the deadline timeline and speak their language. It’s also important to have everyone your team look at the proposal, because everyone is looking for something different. You don’t want to miss the smaller details.

AB 250 Live! Say Yes to Doubt with Linda Kaplan Thaler Jun 09, 2020
    Show notes

he phrase “yes, and…” isn’t just a pillar of improv theater, it should also form the foundation of your business according to today’s guest on All Business with Jeffrey Hayzlett.

Linda Kaplan Thaler is the President of Kaplan Thaler Productions and there’s a good chance you know some of the brands she helped make famous -- the AFLAC duck, the Toys “R”Us theme song and the “YES! YES! YES” from Herbal Essences. They all came from Linda’s ad agency.

She started her career as an actress and comedian and continues to use some of the lessons she learned on stage in the business world. Linda offered listeners great advice on how to stay positive despite what’s going on in the economy. She also believes that little things ad up and it’s important to be grateful and think about how you can help others: even your competition. Linda also shared with Jeffrey why doubt is important and why you need to think laterally, not literally.

AB 249 Live! Disruption Junction: What's Your Function with Tony Hunter and Chad Burmeister Jun 08, 2020
    Show notes

On this episode of All Business with Jeffrey Hayzlett we follow two different industries sharing one common theme: Disruption.

Our first guest is involved in one of the most disrupting businesses out there: cannabis. Tony Hunter is the chairman of Revolution Enterprises. Jeffrey and Tony talk about the business, why he started in the business, the unprecentened growth and what the future might hold. Besides the disruption of the cannabis industry, the pair talked about what it will take to get back to work and why you need to listen to your people if your office opens back up. While both Jeffrey and Tony have held many positions in business, there’s one title they both agree is the best one they’ve ever “earned”.

While Artificial Intelligence can scare some people today’s second guest says it shouldn’t. AI will help you get your “F’s up”. Not that kind of F. Chad Burmeister, the CEO of ScaleX.ai. explains to Jeffrey what the F stands for and you might be surprised. ScaleX.ai uses AI to help in the sales process. Before you think the robots are out for your job, Chad says humans are necessary, in fact he says human intervention is required to make it all work. Chad also tells Jeffrey how he stays optimistic and why you should too.

AB 248 Naked Balls and Zombies with Michael Chernow and Danielle DiMartino Booth

Even with everything happening in the world, many have their eyes on the economy. Today we tackled the nation’s financial health from two vastly different sectors, restaurants and Wall Street.

Today’s first guest, Michael Chernow, is a celebrity chef, entrepreneur, and author. Michael opened up about the difficulties his restaurants have experienced over the last few months and the difficulties the industry as a whole faces in the immediate future. He also talked in-depth about his business mantra, “Fail often. Fail fast. Learn from your mistakes.” Michael also offered up a great analogy comparing success to a pro-sports team and how you’re only as strong as your worst player. You’ll also learn about what “Naked Balls” are and what his favorite meatball is.

Our second guest knows the economy inside and out. Danielle DiMartino Booth is the CEO and Chief Strategist of Quill Intelligence. She’s also worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. Show notes

You hear the term “cyber security” tossed around nearly every day, but our first guest today on All Business on Jeffrey Hayzlett says it’s a lot more to it than logins and passwords. Jordan Brandt is the CEO and Co-Founder at Inpher a company that trademarked the term Secret ComputingⓇ. Jeffrey and Jordan talk about what secret computing means and how data protection is important for all businesses. Besides data, they also talk about Jordan’s furniture-making hobby, the type of things he has built, and why it sometimes upsets his wife.

Today’s second guest, Laura Mineff, is the President of Array Design Studio and also talked about furniture, with a twist. She talked about the overall design, functionality, and why sound design goes beyond the living room or the board room. Laura says both need good bones and points out as we move into the post-COVID-19 world, what worked yesterday won’t work tomorrow. Whatever the design or process is, your need to make it fear free and convenient for everyone.
