AgustD D-Day Hot Take Apr 26, 2023

Show notes

D-Day is here. The album we all suspected (knew) was coming but only had official confirmation for A FEW WEEKS AGO is out in the world. The closing of the AgustD trilogy that took us from the initial mixtapes AgustD (2016) to D-2 (2020) to this official release is one hell of a ride. Min Yoongi aka Prod by Suga aka Suga from BTS aka AgustD takes listeners on a journey of liberation and healing. No longer as haunted by the past, and releasing fears for the future, this is an artist at the top of his came who is stepping into the power of now. Did we like it? Raw. Intense. Honest. Spoiler: We f**cking loved it.

Stop, Collaborate, And Listen! Apr 18, 2023

Show notes

Re. the title...if you know, you know. Am I right, my Gen Xers?

Okay, while we clearly love BTS producing and/or performing their own music...collaborations are always a treat. From Halsey to Psy to IU to J.Cole to Megan Thee Stallion to Woosung to Tablo...we've enjoyed OT7 collabs as well as when solo members join creative forces with different artists. Today Afternoona Army hosts Megan and Lia unpack the world of collaborations...what do we love, what gets critical acclaim and what do we dream of for the future.

Show Notes (just a small sample of collabs we discuss on the show):
Nick Cave "Where the Wild Roses Grow" featuring Kyle Minogue
Temple of the Dog (Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder) "Hunger Strike"
Cardi B "WAP" featuring Megan Thee Stallion
BTS "Boy with Luv" featuring Halsey
Balming Tiger "Sexy Nukim" featuring RM
J.Hope "On the Street" featuring J. Cole
So!YoON! "Smoke Sprite" featuring RM
Psy "That That" featuring Suga
BTS "Bad Decisions" with Benny Blanco and Snoop Dogg

Living the Suite Life With AgustD Apr 06, 2023

Show notes

Join Afternoona Army host Lia and Friend-Of-The-Pod, Becky, for an in-depth conversation with Director of Premium Sales and Service for ASM Global at Oakland Arena, Bryan Watson.

On February 14th, Min Yoongi aka Suga aka AgustD dropped a bomb on the fandom: he's going on world tour. This sent Lia and legions of other Suga biases into a spiral knowing that securing tickets would be tough and the best strategy was leaning into our collective power. It didn't take long for us to discover that suites were available for group purchasing at Oakland Arena--an option once dominated by corporations--but more accessible post-Covid.

And as we explored the suite logistics...Bryan achieved a minor celebrity status among those ARMY trying to see Suga X AgustD in the Bay Area. The TL;DR is our efforts worked and we can't wait to collectively celebrate D-Day (AgustD, D-2, and all those solos) on May 16th. But the behind-the-scenes world of concert operations intrigued us. We wanted to learn more how things worked and Bryan generously obliged!

Jimin Gives Us FACE Mar 31, 2023

Show notes

William Faulkner once said "The past is never dead. It's not even past." The pandemic might have moved on from the days where we cancelled plans, stayed home, and watched our world's shrink. But those days are inside all of us. Are we ready to start to face what we experienced during those years? BTS's Park Jimin thinks so and has gifted us with his first solo EP, a short but smart journey from relational breakdowns, to emotional breakdowns, to embodying the idea that "a breakdown is an opportunity for a break through." Join Alison, Tonya, Lia and Megan for a candid reaction to the album...the good, the difficult, and yeah....the hidden track.

F**K all your opps. Ya'll...our best boy did so good.
