    Heather Maloney LIVE@Deepwells 7-13-2013 Jul 14, 2013
    Show notes

Heather Maloney – Hailed by The Huffington Post for “lyrics that cut to the chase.”, Heather Maloney is quickly becoming known for her powerhouse performances, highly original songwriting, memorable melodies, “knock-you-dead vocals” (Valley Advocate), and evocative lyricism. DigBoston wrote that she “deserves the type of cult following that has allowed the likes of Aimee Mann and Ani DiFranco that long standing success and influence they have had.” Although Maloney’s influences are largely rooted in what she calls “adventurous folk,” she pushes outward on these 11 songs, digging deeper, and roaming wider, than she has before on songs populated by vivid characters that ultimately trace their way back to her. It’s no surprise that her performances are getting more and more crowded as people discover her smart, catchy and soulful music. For more, go to www.heathermaloney.com.

    Caleb Hawley LIVE@Deepwells 8-1-2012 Aug 01, 2012
    Show notes

Caleb Hawley – On paper, Caleb Hawley’s resume reads as the standard Who’s Who for up-and-coming songwriters. Then you hear him sing, and you realize there is only one word needed to describe this artist: Extraordinary.

From his ability to write intricate lyrics with cutting-edge chords to his lightening fast licks and ear for taste and style, there is absolutely nothing average about this shaggy-haired, blue-eyed, multi-faceted musician. Receiving top honors in the prestigious New York Songwriters Circle Contest (2008 and 2009), the John Lennon Songwriting Contest (2009), the Telluride Festival (2010), the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival (2010), and Rocky Mountain Folks Fest (2011) for his songwriting, he also has a voice to place him in the final fifty on the 2011 American Idol Season. Hawley is as aggressive as he is perseverant in advancing his art and impressing audiences with his unique and catchy approach to music. While lyrically influenced by observational writers such as Randy Newman and Tom Waits, Hawley is also well known for his outstanding vocal capacity and range. The humble performer captivates audiences with soothing folk tunes in the same manner as James Taylor, and with the next breath blows them away with his powerhouse of soul, likened to that of Stevie Wonder. Audiences leave a Caleb Hawley show with a permanent grin, a heart full of laughter, and a tune to hum the whole way home. For more, go to www.calebhawley.com.

    Toby Walker LIVE@Deepwells 7-14-2012 Jul 14, 2012
    Show notes

Toby Walker – Toby’s passion for blues, rags, folk, and other traditional American music drove him to leave an apartment crammed full of recordings, books and instruments for the Mississippi Delta, Virginia and the Carolinas where he tracked down some of the more obscure – but immensely talented – music makers of an earlier era. He learned directly from Eugene Powell, James “Son” Thomas,Etta Baker, and R.L Burnside, among others. The talent, passion, and soul of a Toby Walker performance reflects these travels. Whether it is telling the humorous and heartwarming tales of other masters, talking about his inspirations, or astounding you with his mastery, his performances are a feast for the senses. The audience is moved in ways that delight them long after the encores. You can catch a taste of these stories on his Web site in “The Masters” section. But make no mistake about it – he is to be experienced live. Those fortunate enough to attend one of his shows will vouch for that. In 2006, Carnegie Hall acknowledged his rare talents and hired him to augment and teach in their “American Roots” program aimed at honor level middle school students. This one-of-a-kind series demonstrates the history of blues music and traditions, while teaching the history of African Americans as they migrated from the south into the north. His mastery of the blues was recognized in Memphis when he won the International Blues Challenge Award. For more, go to www.littletobywalker.com.
