ACOFAE Podcast Presents: Now and Then: "Truth or Dare?"

Where were you when this movie came into your life? Do you remember? Have you seen it as an adult? You should. A movie that has an abysmal Rotten Tomatoes score, Now and Then, is a classic in the eyes of Laura Marie and Jessica Marie. A movie that has everything ACOFAE loves: third places, coming of age, female friendships, and Brendan Fraser. Truly everything anyone could want. Reminisce with Laura Marie and Jessica Marie about a time, a place, a feeling that highlights the beauty of coming together but also of growing apart and the joy of reunion.

Show notes

ACOFAE Podcast Presents: Blood and Chocolate: "She's so cool." A vintage YA throwback.

There are the books that shaped you as a reader, and then there are the books that change you as a reader. Blood and Chocolate is a foundational book for ACOFAE Laura, and claims the title of "First werewolf book she has ever read" so it was only a matter of time before it made its way to the podcast. Set in a time, a place, a vibe, there's no cellphones, here as 16 year old Vivienne navigates the recent death of her father which forces her werewolf pack to move to the suburbs where only trouble brews. Isolated and appropriately angsty, Vivienne thinks she's found someone special in a human boy that has a taste for magic. Teenage love wars with pack obligations and loyalty in this standalone read that finds Vivienne struggling to keep the pack safe from outside threats and from herself.

221. Elizabeth: "I am no man's Elizabeth." Sep 22, 2025

Show notes

ACOFAE Podcast Presents: Elizabeth: "I am no man's Elizabeth."

It's Laura Marie's half birthday! You know what that means! It's time to subject Jessica Marie to something in the historical fiction genre, and since it's been Egypt heavy this year (JUST WAIT IT'S COMING) the decision was made to explore another hyper-fixation, English Queens. Specifically with the fantastic movie Elizabeth. The plots are plotting, the romance, the betrayal, the Church! There's so much to love here and Laura Marie clearly does with the amount of gushing that's done. Jessica Marie has never seen the film which makes the conversation even more fun. Real people! Real events! History can be fun!

"I will have one mistress here, and NO masters."

Spoilers: History, Elizabeth (movie)

Mentions: Shakespeare in Love, Saved!, Doctor Who

ACOFAE welcomes friend of show Gene for a broad discussion about the world of The Lord of the Rings, specifically the animated Hobbit film and Peter Jackson's first movie; Fellowship of the Ring. A wide-ranging discussion that starts with the lack of women in the series and ends with a pitch for Jessica Marie to sit down and watch Two Towers for reasons, ACOFAE and Gene delight in the details. Though he insists that he is not an expert, friend of show Gene is ACOFAE's expert and he shows it with deep lore drops about music,Tolkien’s life, and a love of a specific character that did NOT make it into any of the adaptations that ACOFAE are familiar with! Join Laura Marie, Jessica Marie, and Gene as they broadly discuss Bilbo, Frodo, Sam, Aragorn, and the journey they take with the One Ring, and how that little piece of jewelry is big enough to shape the world.

Show notes

ACOFAE Podcast Presents: Empire of Shadows: "Find your joy, find your niche."

It's 2025 and we are all trying to survive and find a little snippet of joy wherever it can be found. Whether that be in genres that ACOFAE is familiar with or in new genres with new authors, it's in the journey that fun is discovered. Such is ACOFAE's experience with Gaslamp Fantasy! A new genre with a new author- Laura Marie and Jessica Marie are riveted by the story of Adam and Ellie and their adventures through British Honduras. Set in the late 1800's Ellie is a suffragette who is educated and not afraid to speak her mind in a time when it's frowned upon to do so. After she discovers a secret map the adventure is on taking us on boats, boats, and more boats on our way to discover a lost city before the villains do. Add in a handsome and capable American surveyor who also happens to deeply care about preservation and stopping the looting and robbing of archaeological sites, and boom we have a love story too! Keeping things slightly spoiler free, ACOFAE encourages everyone to get lost with Adam and Ellie in this new adventure series that has captured ACOFAE's heart and mind.

"Children?! Marriage!? Absolutely not."
