    A Frayed Knot

A Frayed Knot is the podcast of Jill McCormick and Robin Wall. Our stories matter and make us who we are. Every other week our guests share stories that matter, the stories that make us who we are. Even though our stories have knots, we are not afraid. Our stories are frayed. They’re not perfect. We believe the truth of our mess makes us stronger. We hope that God uses these stories to encourage and strengthen your faith as you trust in Him.

Can you even believe it?!? We are talking today to Jill Donovan of Rustic Cuff! This was so much fun to record, partly because she is just so extraordinary, and partly because she invited us to her beautiful office to do our recording! We loved getting to see behind the scenes of her store, where the world of Rustic Cuff takes shape. It was amazing! Jill has chosen a new hobby every year for the last 42 years! She has had all sorts of interesting pastimes, from memorization, to learning how to play unusual instruments, to learning magic tricks! One of her "hobbies" became her life's work and ministry: making cuffs. You will get to hear how that started, how a comment from Oprah changed things, and how Jill has learned to never lose her sense of wonder. We learned about forgiving dream-stealers, not comparing our Chapter One to someone else's Chapter Twenty, and learning to always say "Yes" to God's prompting. Jill's story is one of hope, creativity, and inspiration. She has been through a lot and was so gracious to share her lessons of trusting in God each step of the way, even when the way doesn't seem clear. You will love this one! EP 090, Art Haddaway, A Frayed Knot Apr 11, 2022
    Show notes

Our guest for this episode is Art Haddaway, the Editor for the Owasso Reporter. He is also a published author with a new book out: Reflections of an Editor; Insights and Observations of a Small-Town Newsman. His book is currently available at Arthaddaway.com and Amazon. It is also available on Audible. We think you'll want to get a copy after hearing Art's story. Art shares about the difficulties of going through a divorce during the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown. He was hurt and broken, and found it difficult to trust God for a time. He says he learned through that lonely experience "the peace from God far outweighs any worldly pleasure." He is open, honest, and vulnerable and we were so thankful for his willingness to share. If you've ever been through an experience of confusion and had a hard time understanding what to do next, this is for you. Also, if you are interested in journalism, this one's for you! This conversation will encourage you to trust and obey God! Ann listened to what God told her to do. She felt called to missions at an early age and didn’t even question it! She met her husband at OBU and married him. God called both of them in a miraculous moment, and they took the leap into missions in SE Asia. They have lived overseas for 20 years now. They have raised their four children there, and they deeply love the people there. At first, they experienced intense culture shock and loneliness. They learned to trust the Lord with every step in SE Asia. You are going to love their story of faith and obedience at every turn. EP 087, Jill Bowman, A Frayed Knot Feb 28, 2022

When Jill Bowman got married, she didn't know the difficult journey that she and her husband would have to take. She married her high school sweetheart, Tom. They have two beautiful children and a beautiful story that will encourage your faith. Jill is a math teacher and works at Tulsa Tech. In 2009, her husband found out he had cancer in a very surprising way. What they thought was a sinus infection turned out to be much more. The next few years would bring challenges and valleys. They also grew closer to the Lord and closer to each other. Tom survived his cancer diagnosis and is healthy today! They learned more than they ever expected through their journey. Jill shares that God delights in the details. Even when we think He is silent and can't feel Him, He is there. He is not silent. He speaks to our souls, we need only to listen and trust. There is also a moving story at the end that Jill wrote and shares with us. Psalm 39:13 #afrayedknotpodcast #lymphoma #don'tgotothephone, gotothethrone #Godwillrestoreyoursmile

EP 084, Tiffany Davis, A Frayed Knot Jan 17, 2022
    Show notes

Today on A Frayed Knot we are talking about a tender subject. This episode is about domestic violence. We hope it helps you see warning signs for yourself or someone you may know. We are grateful to Tiffany for being so vulnerable and sharing her painful experience with us. Tiffany Davis tells us about being in an abusive relationship for over 20 years. She will tell us warning signs and red flags that were overlooked, how she covered it up so other people wouldn't see the reality of her situation. Thankfully, Tiffany's story doesn't end there; she finally got out of the harmful and dangerous spot she was in. She is now in a happy, healthy relationship with her new husband. We hope this is helpful to our listeners to understand and recognize what may be happening around you. There are some violent descriptions told, just to give you a trigger warning.
