    A Few Bad Apples

    This podcast spotlights cases of police brutality that have occurred in America throughout the decades. In these turbulent times, the police continue to use excessive force against citizens, some resulting in deaths. The purpose of the podcast is to inform listeners of the severity of some of these cases and to hopefully create a movement where police no longer use excessive force and to advocate for positive reform within police departments across the country.

    Arthur McDuffie was riding his motorcycle when he was suddenly chased and then tackled down by several officers from the Metro Police Department in Miami, Florida. His case sparked riots in the streets because the people of Miami were fed up with the racial tensions and police brutality.

    Jimmie Lee Jackson and Bloody Sunday Sep 20, 2021

    Take a trip to 1965 when racial tensions were at all-time high and Black citizens were prevented their lawful right to vote. Jimmie Lee Jackson tried to peacefully protest but ended up shot by an Alabama State Trooper. This shooting pushed forth the day known as Bloody Sunday, where hundreds of Black peaceful protesters were brutally attacked near the Edmund Pettis Bridge. The day became known as Bloody Sunday.

    The Death of Douglas Zerby Aug 09, 2021

    Douglas Zerby was intoxicated and decided to walk to a friend's house instead of drive. His friend was not home so he waited on the top step of the porch and fidgeted with a garden hose nozzle. A nearby neighbor saw Douglas and believed he was holding a gun and called in to report him. When police arrived, they watched him and then shot him to death.

    Kadie and her young daughter River were discovered dead. River's manner of death was determined to be a homicide, while Kadie's was ruled a suicide. The police investigation was quite short and Kadie's family are fighting with the coroner to change the manner of death to a homicide.

    Murdered: John Geer Mar 23, 2021

    John Geer had a domestic dispute at home with his girlfriend. She called the police to help mediate the situation, but Officer Torres stood with his gun pointed at John. John stood unarmed, with his hands up. For some unknown reason, Officer Torres shot John once, and John later died.
    Before responding to this call, Officer Torres was on the phone for 16-minutes and was arguing with his wife. Was he fit to respond to the call at John's house that day? The sad fact is that this wasn't the first time Officer Torres's personal matters interfered with his ability to serve.

    Murdered: Breonna Taylor #sayhername Feb 23, 2021

    Louisville Metro Police Dept. had been surveilling Breonna's home because they suspected her ex-boyfriend had been receiving drugs there. They planned to do a no-knock search warrant raid, in which they executed and Breonna was shot and later died.
    Breonna's story moved so many because the police officer who fired off the deadly shot did not get any charges against him.
    She inspired the #sayhername movement, and many who support the #BLM movement keep her story alive by demanding justice and change.

    Samantha was leaving a field party with her friends. As she was exiting the party, a deputy attempted to stop her car because he wanted to conduct a field sobriety test.
    The night was supposed to be fun, but it ended tragically. The deputy ended up on the hood of her car, and moments later Samantha was shot to death.

    *BAD APPLE* Drew Peterson Feb 09, 2021

    Drew Peterson, a former police officer, had been married many times and was known to cheat on his wives, and then marry his mistress. His third wife, Kathleen Savio, was found dead in her bathtub after he divorced her. It was ruled an accident, and then later his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, went missing. Police were suspicious and ended up exhuming Kathleen from her grave to reevaluate her cause of death, which then opened up the legal investigations into Drew's involvement.

    Stonewall Uprising of 1969 Feb 02, 2021

    The 1960s were difficult for members of the LGBTQ+ community because the laws in place discriminated against them. A local hangout, The Stonewall Inn, was a safe haven for those in the community but remained a place where NYPD officers would badger the patrons. On June 28, 1969, the patrons would not back down, which led to 6 days of riots and freedom for those in the LGBTQ+ community to be who they wanted to be.

    This episode is about Sarah Reed, and takes place in London, England. She suffered an extreme tragedy in her personal life and had battled several mental health struggles thereafter. A few years later, she was beaten by a British Police Constable. She was institutionalized and then sent to prison- All the systems failed her by neglecting to properly medicate her and to treat her mental health issues. She ended up taking her own life.

    13 Minutes: The Death of Tony Timpa Oct 20, 2020

    Tony Timpa called 911 for help because he was off of his medications and might have been in distress. Responding officers held him down in the knee-restraint position for 13 minutes. During that time, they made fun of him and mocked him. Tony died on the hands of the police.

    76 Shots Fired: The Death of Jamarion Robinson Sep 08, 2020

    Jamarion Robinson's girlfriend's apartment was rushed by a task force and US Marshals to serve him with a warrant for an incident they believed he was involved in. Instead, they knocked the door down and shots were fired. Authorities shot him 76 times.

    Donna Castleberry was a young woman who was shot and killed by an undercover police officer who had an extremely spotty record. There were several outstanding complaints against him while he was under investigation while he was continuing his work on the streets.

    I wanted to commemorate Elijah McClain on his one year anniversary after his encounter with police.He was a young man, minding his own business, who walked into a local convenience store for a drink, and walked out, was tackled down to the ground by several police officers because he appeared suspicious. Police held him in a carotid position, otherwise known as a chokehold. Not only was he held down but attending medics who were called to the scene injected with ketamine to calm him. This was a recent story that resonated in the hearts of so many.

    Chase Near the Capitol: Miriam Carey Aug 18, 2020

    Miriam Carey was driving with her one-year-old daughter through Washington D.C. when she made a U-turn by a Secret Service security checkpoint. After that U-turn, a seven minute chase ensued around town, causing a shutdown of major streets and put Congress in lockdown. Moments later, Miriam was shot and killed.

    What started out as a normal traffic stop, quickly escalated into an on-foot pursuit, and then a murder. A bystander was able to capture the whole scene on camera, but unknowingly caught footage of the cop trying to stage the scene.

    Angela Garbarino was presumed to be drunk when she was pulled over for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Once she gets to the police station and refuses to take a blood alcohol test, the police officer shuts off the camera in the interrogation room for several minutes. Once it is turned on, Angela is lying in a pool of her own blood.

This is the first event of its kind to be video recorded, and for the video to go viral. Police brutality is not uncommon but for it to be recorded and shared before the "technological revolution" is unheard of and sets the precedence for getting justice against the bad apples of the police force.
