A Dog’s Life with Anna Webb

    Dogs.

They’re companions, guardians, and much much more – they complete us. And they just might save us from ourselves.

Anna Webb explores all levels of modern dog ownership and brings to life why every dog is extraordinary.

She speaks to scientists and experts – people who have and are changing our understanding of dogs – on everything from emotional intelligence to nutrition to behaviour, delving deep into subjects like homeopathy, telepathic communication and the pet food scandal.

It’s thought provoking, alternative, and not a little subversive.

    Aurélie Four Jan 14, 2024
    Show notes

This week we’re delighted to chat to Photographer, Aurélie Four. Originally from France, Aurélie is a London based wedding and lifestyle photographer for people who love dogs. Her relaxed, candid approach made for great conversation on her extensive knowledge and love of dogs, Welsh corgis especially: letting “dogs be dogs” and their well behaved humans be themselves in the love, life and work moments she captures. Her own pup, Marcel, whose social media (@lecorgi) she runs, inspired her to live more in the moment and make memories. Their travels together and considering dogs to be very important family members made Aurélie want to champion businesses that welcome them and to support charities helping those in need. Together they volunteer to cheer elderly patients and staff at a local NHS hospital.

140 Years of Battersea Cats Jan 07, 2024
    Show notes

We start 2024 chatting to Battersea’s Brydie Williams and Hazel Adams highlighting 140 years of caring for cats. Marking this landmark the aim is to raise awareness of the great cat welfare given, and millions of cats saved, rehabilitated, and re-homed.

To celebrate this historic occasion, Battersea will mark it the only way they know how – by giving our feline friends the love we all know they deserve. Hazel and Brydie explain that over the next weeks and months, Battersea will share fur-filled stories of hope and happiness from their 140-year journey together, with a raft of stories and how they’ll be here for cats and their owners now and in the future.

We chat about the differences between cats and dogs, the fact cats haven’t been studied as much as dogs and why just as with their dogs, great care is taken in placing cats in the new homes. Many are re-homed on farms as their prey drives are better suited to a life of rat and mouse extinction.

But most of all this special anniversary is celebrating their pure unbridled cattitude and the incredible bond that we share.

Tis the Season to be Dog Friendly: Cinema Dec 31, 2023
    Show notes

In the second part of our festive Dog Friendly episodes, Anna and the gang go to the dog friendly screenings at the Picture House Cinema originally aired in July 2023.

Anna is joined by Amber Pegden, Marketing Manager at The Picture House Central. Based in Piccadilly in the heart of London’s Theatreland and Soho, it's also home to very special dog friendly screenings. Amber has been instrumental in creating this extremely popular dog-centric cinematic experience. She chats about why as a dog owner herself she understands why fellow dog owners would prefer to go and see films with their dogs. Interestingly it's not to see Lassie or 101 Dalmatians, its the latest ‘blockbuster’ movies. We talk about how Anna’s own Mr Binks is a seasoned cinema goer, and how Prudence, Anna’s Bull terrier, went to see the multi-award winning Isle of Dogs, created in Hackney in London. Amber highlights the thought behind her project which includes a seat for your dog that’s included in the price for a single human seat. On entering the Auditorium dogs are offered their own blanket to keep their seat dog hair free, with fresh bowls of water dotted around for the dogs. There’s dog-friendly ice cream on offer, and of course dog-friendly popcorn too. We chat about the joyous spirit of these screening where like minded folk get together and celebrate their dogs. Its a chance to sharpen their training, as well as meet and greets. As Anna’s personally most favourite thing to do as an inspired concept taking dog friendly to new limit. What’s extraordinary is that the dogs really enjoy it and settle. In over six years there’s never been a complaint about dog hair or any allergic reactions! It has to be experienced to be believed! Later, Anna joins her friends Jo Good, Henry Brandman, and Caroline Brill, all with their dogs to see the Barbie Movie.

Tis the Season to be Dog Friendly: Restaurants Dec 24, 2023
    Show notes

In the first of our festive dog-friendly venue episodes we visit M Restaurant in Victoria, London to see how they cater to patrons with pets, originally aired July 6 2022.

Anna is joined by Martin Williams, the founder of London’s premier steak houses, M Restaurant and Gaucho. He chats about why he wanted to open his restaurant’s doors to dogs at a time when the concept of ‘Dog Friendly’ hadn’t reached the mainstream. Proud of his decision to incorporate special ‘six-leg’ menus and events for dogs and their people to enjoy, the space at the Victoria flagship restaurant lends itself perfectly being so spacious, it can easily accommodate a Christmas party of rover 80 Guide Dogs - just one of many events he’s hosted in aid of charity, and offering great fun for all alike.

He explains why it is not ‘illegal’ to invite dogs into a restaurant, so long as common sense prevails and there’s space to offer those not dog friendly to also feel relaxed. He also chats about his Labradoodle, Hudson, who left his legacy on the restaurant, always remembered through some artworks, and branding as being Martin’s inspiration to be so #DogFriendly. His young Labradoodle, named Wilbur and Mr Binks enjoyed meeting and recording in person too!

We chat about Jenny’s role as a vet - being a pathologist screening biopsies for cancer cells. And as a huge cat lover, Jenny talks about why cats make great pets. Jenny also hosts animal blessings where she's blessed a snail along with hamsters, chickens, rabbits and many cats and dogs.

He follows in the footsteps of Rocky, Ivana’s first Jack Russell. We chat about training dogs and why it's every day and building progressively to achieve your dog’s best. We talk about dog friendly in London and how it's such a positive step forwards when dogs are trained! We chat about fashion and dogs - the dilemma, and why a brand called Equafleece works for us both, and why feeding naturally unprocessed food is another point we have in common. Importantly we discuss Ivana’s passion for style and her amazing silk scarves. We discuss the significance of colour and fabric. As unique pieces scarves define chapters and make gifts that stand the test of time. Announcing her latest edition, just in time for Christmas, silk bandanas for your dog. Yap Yap with Keef Yap Dec 03, 2023
    Show notes

This week we’re joined by Keef Yap whose initiative YapYap.dog is taking meet up groups to new levels in London. Inspired by her own MaltiPoo called Buttons, Keef wanted to reach out to fellow dog moms after the pandemic to get together in real life. Her idea to set up meet up groups, and build a dedicated community of like minded dog moms. Teaming up with Yumove - the joint care supplements brand - to offer support from a health perspective, the puppy parties also focus on training and proactive engagement with your dog. Initially launched for Maltipoos, Cavapoos and Cockapoos, Keef is looking to expand her breeds groups in 2024 and introduce group meet ups for all rescue dogs to join in and take centre stage. We talk about how important it is to socialise and get out and about with your dog, to help train a pup that’s happy and confident to enjoy metropolitan life. We also talk about the Big Woof which Keef organised in the summer at the new impressive Kings Cross area - known as Coal Drops Yard where hundreds of dogs and their owners benefited from dog friendly shopping opportunities all thanks to YapYap.dog. We’re very excited to announce the next big dogcentric party which is at St John’s Church near Hyde Park on December 16th which is set to a dogtastic winter wonderland for dogs with Secret Santa, a grotto, competitions and lots of prizes to be won!
