DEATH OF A STARLET- New from Wondery Dec 09, 2020

Show notes

Nineteen eighty was going to be Dorothy Stratten's year. Playboy's Hugh Hefner thought it might even be her decade. She was just 20 years old, the girl next door with the shy smile and whispery voice who didn't know her own beauty. But who was Dorothy really? And how did her rise to fame ultimately lead to her death?

This is a six-part series about love, sex and murder in 1970s Hollywood when glitter pants and roller skates were all the rage, and the Playboy mansion hosted the biggest party in town.

Double Date: Betrayed S.2 Ep.10 - Hells Bells Dec 05, 2020

Show notes

The ID Network never lets us down with episodes from the BETRAYED series- where the murder victims tell their own story! This week it's "Hells Bells", but the only ringing happening is the wringing of hands that some of the characters in this story may cause. Dear Rhonda Smith didn't stand a chance surrounded by a bunch of people who seem to be likely suspects in her murder. There is a gaggle of church women, a man with a van, a cheating husband with something to lose and a pastor who's demeanor could be considered more personal than professional. Kimberly and Katie have a lot of material to work with here if they can stop worrying when the bells are coming into play and how they can infiltrate a bell choir sometime in 2021. Heat up that hot dish and get ready for an extra helping of BETRAYED!

Official Description from INVESTIGATION DISCOVERY: A stranger strays from the path of righteousness and betrays Rhonda Smith.

Show notes

On this fine Manksgiving eve we bring you a Dateline of cold blooded murder filled with mysterious missing documents, secret sensual encounters, questionable motives and... Dennis Murphy? Sure, it may be Manksgiving, but Dennis is more than enough Murphy to report this tragic story of the beloved school superintendent shot At Close Range. Kimberly and Katie have a a lot to discuss as the events leading up to the murder seem to be lacking some very important details and the main informant's attitude is somewhat too calm for the circumstances. Join K & K as they dissect this murder by miscommunication story, and ask the all important question, if someone's life is in danger, is warning them by email sufficient? No, no it is not. Text or call that person. Please enjoy this very special holiday episode of A Date with Dateline and remember, "we were on a break!!!"

Official Description from NBCU: Keith Reed was a highly-regarded school superintendent. When he didn't show up at an out-of-town conference, it set off alarm bells. Investigators took a hard look at his love life for clues and made a startling discovery. Dennis Murphy reports.

What Happened to Don Lewis? S.29 Ep.6 Nov 19, 2020

Show notes

Hey there cool cats and kittens! Guess who's back? The Tiger King and his much reviled queen, Carole Baskin! But if you're sick and tired of this tale of greed, rancid meat pizza, and fashions more upsetting than animal exploitation, don't worry. Dateline's got you. This episode is 100% about The Mank. Sir Manky with the Hanky is bringing his A+ snark and smirks while interviewing fellow royalty Joe Exotic from prison, and throwing twitter shade at Carole Baskin. Mankiewicz dives into the alligator pond headfirst, looking into the mysterious disappearance of Carole's husband Don Lewis. Is he in Costa Rica? Was he fed to the tigers? Did he tune in from beyond the grave (or the beach) to catch Carole's leopard-printed performance on Dancing With The Stars? Join K & K for their discussion of coded messages, the brilliance of Milli Vanilli, and Tik Tok parody videos. Listen as they two-step around with their words, trying very hard to not get sued by Carole Baskin! Did they succeed? Enjoy this very special animal kingdom edition of A Date with Dateline to find out!

Official Description from NBCU: Investigating the 1997 disappearance of Don Lewis, husband of big cat rights activist Carole Baskin ("Tiger King"). Josh Mankiewicz reports.

Double Date: Betrayed S.2 Ep.9- Blood in the Water Nov 14, 2020

Show notes

Kimberly and Katie are bringing back one of their favorite ID Network shows, Betrayed! This one is BLOOD IN THE WATER, a title that takes Kimberly and Katie far too long to get. This is the series where the dead quite literally speak to the audience, and it's amazing. This time that disembodied voice and is a wife, mother, and co-owner of a water company (oh, that's where the title comes from!), who is found shot to death by her husband in the middle of the day. Was it one of her beloved children? Her doting husband (who doted except for this one very important time where he doted on someone else)? Her employees? K & K are searching for this all important answer, as well as equally important other answers, such as… What exactly is this "water business"? Is the son-in-law sexy? Do people actually vacation at Aztec ruins? Does a long lost illegitimate child that was the result of an extra marital affair belong in the family Thanksgiving photo? And seriously, what does that water business do? Please enjoy this very special Double Date episode!

Official Description from INVESTIGATION DISCOVERY: Cathy Stroup is a no-nonsense Irish mom who knows what her family needs to survive. But the question is - how will she survive them?

Hope Whispers S.29 Ep.11 Nov 11, 2020

Show notes

Something's whispering, and for once it's not K & K whispering the word "secrets" in an incredibly creepy and frankly off-putting way. It's HOPE WHISPERS, a wild Dateline where a daughter's mom goes missing and her dad is being… um… unhelpful His behavior has K & K speechless, incredulous, and infuriated, but luckily they have the most delightful K (Keith Morrison) to walk them through it. They're discussing hero cousins who take on the case, men in white coats in a grocery store parking lot, and our second b-roll bridge walk in recent memory. All that, plus a YA novel called Nancy Drew and the Case of the Mystery Urn is rumored to be in the works! Available soon on Amazon (self published)! Please enjoy this very special episode of A Date with Dateline!

Official Description from NBCU: A daughter stays with her boyfriend's family until things settle down after a fight with her mother; but when days go by with no word from her mom, she gets the news that her mother is dead. Keith Morrison reports.

Return to Shalimar Way S.29 Ep.10 Nov 04, 2020

Show notes

When a wealthy woman falls in the shower, her well respected rich doctor husband falls under the microscope. Actually he doesn't, because he's a well respected rich doctor. But when a determined ally seeks answers from a psychic, nay, a medium, it's on. Queen Andrea takes us through this maze of dueling coroners (great band name), a mysterious friend with no benefits, and a juror whose cell phone should be taken away forever. All that, plus, what's the process of selling a blood filled murder house "as is"? AND, there are Jews in this case, so K & K are excited, and brace yourself, because they're still trying to make the Michael Peterson owl theory happen. It's RETURN TO SHALIMAR WAY!

Official Description from NBCU: When a woman dies after what appears to be an accidental fall in the shower, two friends join forces to seek justice on her behalf. Andrea Canning reports.
