Although her degree is in nursing, her husband’s Air Force career led them to move frequently, which allowed her to focus on raising their three boys. She enjoys volunteering at church in women’s ministry and spiritual counseling. She facilitates a small group of ladies studying the Bible in her home. Carrie’s passion is to help women heal and step confidently into God’s purpose and plan for their lives. Her debut YA Christian fiction novel, Crisis of Faith, will be released this week. Embracing Christianity has been the most pivotal decision of her life, providing her with the strength and resilience to overcome the challenges of her youth. Today, Mathana dedicates herself to ministering, encouraging, and empowering women of all ages through her life coaching sessions. She became a functional health advocate when her oldest son was born in 2003. She loves to dig into research on holistic health, particularly for children. Welcome to the final episode of the Summer Break Series Snap-shot Edition. I cannot believe what an amazing Series this has been. If you haven't had a chance to listen to them all, go back and start on special episode #1. I tell you, these are so encouraging and inspiring! God gave me the idea to discuss with people about the new things that he's doing in their lives, and boy, is God working overtime. I'm particularly excited to share something new God is doing in my life this week. This wasn't my original plan. My original plan was to share four different friends and have them come back on the podcast and share their new things, but one of them could not do it. Because of that, I returned to prayer, asking God who I should ask. To my surprise, God responded, 'I'm doing some new things in your life; why don't you share?' I agreed, thinking it might encourage our regular listeners to hear about the new things God was doing in my life. Little did I know, the incredible new thing He was about to do was just around the corner. This week, you'll hear the newest miraculous story God wrote in my life. He sent me on an adventure, stringing new things to new things. God completely changed the trajectory of my life step by step, obedience by obedience, blessing by blessing. He connected each new thing to bring about this "newest" thing: my being able to sign a traditional publishing contract for the book. He had me stop everything else to write. This is not just an encouraging and inspiring episode for you but also for me. If you ever feel discouraged or doubt that God is in the details, I urge you to listen to this. The things God does are truly amazing, and I'm excited to share them with you. When I dreamed of this opportunity, I told God, “I want you to do this so that when I point to you, people know nobody, but you did it.” Wait until you hear all that He did! God strung together miracles for me! So settle in and listen to this episode about the goodness of God. He's doing a new thing in your life, too. Do you perceive it? Will you step out and follow Him? Special Episode 4 - Christmas Break Series Dec 24, 2023

Merry Christmas! What an amazing time we have had working our way towards Christmas together. I love sharing these special episodes on the “A Cup of Gratitude” podcast. This last week, we will see what Jesus’ name and title have to tell us about who came to save the world. I share with you things you have not heard before and, the power and purpose of names in the Bible and how they tell an extremely important part of the story. Special Episode 2 - Christmas Break Series - Season 6 - Episode 24 Dec 11, 2023

This week, we take a look at your heart on Special Episode #2 of the Christmas Break series on A Cup of Gratitude. This is a busy season, but we must keep our eyes on Jesus - More than any other time we can be distracted by busyness during the Holidays, we must choose to keep our focus on the KING - Jesus gives everything for us to be reborn and we must set aside all of the worldly things at this time of the year to remain in Him - Isn’t it ironic that the time we celebrate Christ’s birth is the time we set Him aside to “do all the things” that come with the Holiday - When we choose Jesus, He continues to transform us, and with great Hope for us all Philippians 1:6 promises that God will keep working on us until Christ returns - We begin in a fallen state with hearts of stone - God promises a new heart - “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.” (EZK 36) Jesus calls this process being “born again from above” (John 3:3). When we are born again, God performs a heart transplant, as it were, He gives us a new heart - On special episode 2 of A Cup of Gratitude we will look at the constant process of turning the soil of our hearts - If we don’t let God work on them by abiding in him they will begin to harden, Collect rocks, and grow weeds - God is transforming us, breaking up the ground, removing the rocks, and pulling the thorns as we learn to abide and remain in Jesus - And I am excited to be featuring a song by Singer/songwriter Amanda Nolan has had a passion and drive for music since she could remember. Season 6 - Episode 13 - Finding Gratitude in Finding The Way Through Sep 18, 2023

This week I speak with Lee Spotts who is a Lover of God, purser of His heart, wife, mom, high school teacher, artist, writer, and survivor of abuse. She believes that everyone has a unique story and that we all have fought battles and carry battle scars. Her story is one of abuse overcome by faith. The testimony of her life is: “Sometimes God does not remove the obstacles. He makes a way through them.” Lee’s mother suffered from mental illness, later in life to be diagnosed with a form of schizophrenia and 3 multiple personalities. After years of being caught in the vicious cycle of abuse, she finally freed herself from it at 26. Her husband and she have been together for 39 years, 34 years of marriage so far. She has 3 beautiful children, 2 biological children, and after enduring 10 miscarriages adopted their 3rd child who is now 17 years old. They are big Disney fans but also like to travel and see other parts of the world. She has one grandchild to date with more to come. As she continues to teach on the high school level, she is currently writing the following 3 books in this series. The next book will continue her story from when she met her husband, the 3rd book will tell the tale of the trials and tribulations of the adoption process—lastly, life after the adoption and the attack she encountered after she published her first book. Lee also has a call to write a young teen series on etiquette in this modern world. We look at her childhood up to the present to find the beautiful thread of Jesus in her life. The North Carolina Native recently recorded in Nashville at “Wei Rock” a new single coming out this fall titled “Overwhelmed,” (Which we will be featuring today) followed by seven more songs, all surrounding her life lessons with overwhelm, burnout, healing, and finding your true identity and calling, which took place during the closing of her salon. When she received her own Bible at the age of nine, she read the whole book, from preface to concordance, with transcendent joy, knowing these were the very words of God. Today, Joanne continues in God’s call to teach, counsel, mentor, and train in God's word and Spirit through retreats, Bible studies, and online classes. After leading and teaching a Bible class of 350–500 students from 2003 to 2013, Joanne retired in 2018 as an advisor and mentor to eight Bible classes in the Maryland area through Bible Study Fellowship. She began teaching and speaking through Ancient Voices, Sacred Stories, LLC, then founded Grace and Peace, Joanne. Joanne earned her Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Portland Seminary and serves as a member of both the pastoral team and pulpit teaching team of her church. A long-time amateur archaeologist, Joanne joined the Board of Directors for the Biblical Archaeology Forum in 2013 and has participated in two excavations, Tel Kabri and Tel Akko, Israel. This week I speak with Leann Faint who coming from a broken family herself, inherently understands the struggles of the students she works with. Called to teaching, Leann began her career as an English teacher in a mainstream high school in a low socioeconomic area in Australia. While raising her three children, she moved into Special Education, a field Leann quickly became passionate about. This led to Leann studying her Masters in Special Education and then gaining her role of Head of Special Education. This role prepared her for working with complex youth, families, and outside agencies. In early 2018 Leann felt led to apply for a position at Carinity Education Southside after 20 years in the public sector. For the past five years, she has strongly felt both the burden and the privilege of being the caretaker of the extraordinary young women who are students at Southside. During this time, Leann has completed further study in Trauma Aware Education at the post-graduate level. This is one of the stories I love to share! As we look at her childhood, we are able to see God’s plans to use every experience, both good and bad, to pour into others who are hurting. Tamika Williford is the Founder of “Clothed N Strength,” a Nonprofit for women in transition. She has been in Cosmetology for more than 30 years, where she connects with many Women. Tamika is a New Life Bible school graduate where she studied Missionary & Evangelistic Training and is currently a Lancaster Bible College student pursuing a BA in Biblical Studies. Clothed N Strength has been her vision since she left the Federal Detention Center in 2011. Tamika promised God that one day if it were His will, she would be in a position to help the women in prison. She met countless women from different backgrounds with different stories, all leading them to incarceration. Tamika heard the despair, the sadness, the regret, and the hopelessness they felt. In many cases, their Families gave up on them; they had no resources to climb out of the hole they were in behind bars and now found themselves free and alone. These women had lost their children, their homes, their careers, their jobs, and their hope, But God had a plan! Clothed N Strength, with God's guidance, will return the HOPE and CONFIDENCE that His plan for them is real. They will learn that they have the choice not to return to prison. They need Resources. Empathy. Help. Tamika is there to help!!!

This week I speak with Charlene Brisbane. She is currently a member of Dare to Imagine Church under the pastorship of Rev. Kevin Johnson. At Dare to Imagine, she is involved in community service and serves as an iGroup (small group) leader. In 2022, Charlene became vice president of the non-profit organization Clothed N Strength, whose mission is to help women overcome barriers to success who have recently returned to society after being incarcerated or who have suffered trauma. She is also the creator of a podcast with her daughter Shelby called Garage Conversations with Char, via which she hopes to engage, inform and inspire listeners. Charlene has a career in the biopharmaceutical industry that spans over 34 years which includes positions of increasing responsibility at Johnson and Johnson, GSK, and Teva Pharmaceuticals, where she currently is a Senior Director in Project Leadership and Strategy in R&D. Charlene believes that her foundation was laid spiritually, as well as, professionally at Trinity United Methodist Church where she accepted Christ in her life at an early age and was baptized. At Trinity, she was Chairperson of the Administrative Council, a Certified Lay Speaker, and a Sunday school teacher, as well as a member of United Methodist Women and The Inspirational Choir. Trinity was the place where she was given encouragement, responsibility, and the challenge always to strive to do her best. One of Charlene’s favorite scriptures is Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” She places her hope in God and acknowledges that all that she is is because of Him. We look at the life God has given Charlene, and even in the midst of the great loss of her husband, we see God working and providing for Char as a widow - The beautiful thread of God working is undeniable - You won’t want to miss this episode you will be greatly encouraged!

She is the founder of Fuel Your Body, Feed Your Soul, an Instagram ministry and blog dedicated to the truth found in Romans 12:2 and Matthew 6:33. Carol has authored three books. She is passionate about knowing Jesus better so that her life makes Him known. Carol surrendered her life to Christ at the age of forty, having been raised in a Jewish home. Her writing has been featured in several publications. She serves as an ambassador for Sadie Robertson Huff’s ministries LOsister and Live Original, where she gets to encourage women in their faith. Currently, Carol lives in Birmingham, Alabama, with her husband of 24 years, Chris, and their four children. This week I am speaking with Susan and Craig Taunton, the parents of recent guest Christian singer-songwriter Laurel Taylor (From Season 4-Episode 3). They wanted the opportunity to share their family’s story from the parent’s perspective as well as Laurel’s, and it was powerful to hear it from all sides! Susan grew up in Montgomery, Alabama. She married at age 19 to her high-school sweetheart. She has two children, a boy and a girl, and is a grandmother(Tutu) of 3 precious boys! Susan is a Believer who has been walking with Jesus for 25 years. She enjoys gospel music and loves reading the Word and Christian non-fiction, keeping her grand boys, and traveling to her daughter’s events to worship with her. Susan has a passion for the homeless community as well! Craig was Born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama. His Father passed away from cancer in 1973, when he was only eight years old. Craig’s brother and sister were graduating high school when He was born, so He grew up much like an only child. Craig was baptized at an early age but went a bit wayward during his teenage years. He married his high school sweetheart. Craig and Susan have been together since 1980. He is Retired from the State of Alabama in engineering, and now he is a self-employed contractor. Craig is proud of his family and, through the Lord’s help, what they have all been able to overcome. You won’t want to miss this special episode. We rarely get to hear other perspectives and pieces of our stories. This family has an amazing testimony of faith and trust in the Lord!

This week I speak with Jill Page; she holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and has worked with non-profit organizations since 1991. As Director of Education at Urban Family Council, Jill wrote curriculum, trained and supervised a team of educators, and taught programs in public and private schools, churches, and community agencies for children in pre-K through high school. The work was primarily in Philadelphia public schools and included a small group program for teen mothers. At Bethany Christian Services, Jill recruited and supported volunteers who provided housing for the children of families in crisis. She also developed and implemented a long-term program for pregnant and parenting young women. Jill volunteered on the hotline and served on the board of an urban pregnancy resource center. These experiences have demonstrated the value of mentoring in a small group setting, shown the challenges young mothers face, even with government assistance, and inspired the desire to start Every Good Gift. Jill serves as its Executive Director. Jill has one child, her daughter Shanita, who was adopted at age fifteen. We speak about her life from childhood to the present allowing us to see the golden thread of Jesus working even in times when Sarah may not have seen Him. This week I speak with Randy Kinnick. Randy was raised in Tenn. The divorce of his parents, when he was 12 years old, rocked his world. As Randy grew he began to have a more mature understanding of his faith and relationship with the Lord . At age 19, after making plans to pursue a degree in architecture, God changed his direction completely and He answered a call to ministry. In those years of learning and growth, Randy sensed that mental health therapy would play an important role in his ministry and enrolled in college where he earned an M.Ed. in Counseling. He has since seen God’s hand at work to lead him into and through many wonderful opportunities of ministry around the world. Randy has served in pastoral roles, through preaching, teaching, counseling, and evangelistic effort. His skills of writing have been utilized to contribute to both published and non-published works of Bible study materials, small group curricula, periodical articles, and blogging. His gift of teaching has taken him across the United States, France, Canada, and the country of the Philippines. And has had opportunities to touch lives in the Philippines and Honduras. Randy’s burden for battling human trafficking has led him to work in the country of Thailand. Randy has been amazed to see the hand of God at work to do things above and beyond his imagination He currently serves as the Therapeutic Foster Care Program Director for the Mid-North Region of Tennessee. This week I speak with Angela Farlow. Angela grew up in Quincy Illinois along the Mississippi River. She began questioning her faith in Middle school and now volunteers with Middle School youth and pours into the lives of children in Africa. It’s amazing to see how God uses her healing and Hope to reach others. When attending a Christian College in Ohio Angela was able to work through the hurts and wounds that she experienced growing up in a split home as well as learn more about what a relationship with Christ really looked like. All along the way She met people that loved her and helped shape her into the woman she is today. She created a mission statement for her life to: “love any person who walked in front of her in order to show them a glimpse of how much God loves them”. After graduating Angela was willing to go wherever God wanted her to go. God led her 8 hours away to a Non-Profit in Pennsylvania to work serving and loving vulnerable children in Kenya. Season 2 - Episode 11 - Finding Gratitude in the NICU Sep 27, 2021

September is NICU awareness month which makes a commitment to inspire hope and to honor families experiencing a stay in the neonatal intensive care unit and the health professionals who care for them. In line with this effort this week I am sharing Sarah Ward’s incredible story! Sarah has three children all of whom had a stay in the NICU. Her first birth of her twins found her being rushed to the hospital only two days after her baby shower. Her girls were whisked away from the operating room without her ever getting to hold them, or worse yet even see them - Heartbroken and confused by the realities of their situation the Wards plodded through until the girls were able to come home. When their son was born he was 37 weeks Sarah had high hopes of a more typical birth experience. She was able to hold her baby after giving birth to him and all seemed well until they took him for some tests and never brought him back. The trauma and disappointment came yet again and Sarah and her husband did their very best to make it through - Having survived all this, they wanted to give back somehow to the amazing NICU community and organizations that help NICU families, so they wrote a children’s book which we will tell you all about in the episode. The thing I find so beautiful about that is that when their girls had their stay Sarah’s husband loaded his arms with books from home and spent the days reading to the girls as a way to bond with them when they weren’t yet able to hold them. He also encouraged her to take a poem that she had written the girls as their birth story and turn it into a children’s book to bring hope to others going through what they had endured.
