Movie "Solaris" - Commentary by David Hoffmeister - Weekly Online Movie Workshop Oct 17, 2021

Movie "Solaris" - Commentary by David Hoffmeister - Weekly Online Movie Workshop
"In today's movie workshop, we're calling on Jesus and the Holy Spirit to take us through the temptations of the ego. Beyond the darkness and all the shadows of this world. And we are joining in piercing the ego's veil together, and open our hearts to experience, pure love. That is our prayer.
And we're going to explore how the principle of all that I give is given to myself and that the principle of giving and receiving is the same. We're going to do it through a space journey in which a space station is marooned very close to a planet, and the planet's name is Solaris. 'Solar' means light, and 'is' means is. So "Light is" is the main theme of the movie or "God is" like Jesus says in the workbook, "we say, God is, and then we cease to speak." In other words, those are the last two words that ever need to be spoken."
Enjoy David's profound commentary for this classic movie that never ends speaking to our eternal nature. The closing session is held by Peter Kirk in which participants share their experiences and emotions.

Movie "Full of Grace" Commentary by David Hoffmeister - Weekly Online Movie Workshop Oct 10, 2021

Show notes

The movie "Full of Grace" Commentary by David Hoffmeister - Weekly Online Movie Workshop
"At one point, Jesus uses a metaphor in the Course, where he says, you have these fallen leaves from the trees landing on a stream, and the leaves float down along the river stream, and Jesus says; Come with me, sink beneath the leaves, sink down underneath the leaves with me into the Kingdom of Heaven.
It's a beautiful metaphor for going into stillness, and that's really our purpose. We're going into a cloistered community, meaning we're going into a deep mystical experience together that some have called mysticism. We will still be broadcasting and sharing from this beautiful state of mind, but the actual state is beyond words. It's beyond describing, and mother Mary will actually explain this to Simon Peter in the movie tonight."

Closing Session - Tabula Rasa October Online Retreat with David Hoffmeister and Frances Xu
David; I'm like a kid in a candy store with big eyes, beholding, what are you showing me now God? Always in the joy of what I'm being shown. Like our Tabula Rasa theme. Jesus told us in the course that, "You taught yourself this world and you taught yourself so thoroughly that you never paused for one moment to ask yourself, why?". Why am I teaching myself this world of separation. You never paused for a moment to look at the purpose, why am I doing this? That's why we have to unlearn the world. We've been at it for millenniums. Way beyond physical lifetimes. We are building something like a sandcastle that's not going to stand when the wave comes in. And when the wave does come in the ego screams. Now my sandcastle will be gone, like it was there in the first place. Don't regret letting go of what could never happen, that's not part of God's will. At some point, you have to get to that song from the movie Frozen. "Let it go, Let it go, Let it go. Not holding back any more."
Enjoy David and Frances closing the Tabula Rasa Online Retreat with very transparent and moving sharings from the participants as well.

Movie "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" Commentary by David Hoffmeister - Tabula Rasa Online Retreat Movie Workshop Oct 04, 2021

Show notes

Movie "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" Commentary by David Hoffmeister - Tabula Rasa Online Retreat Movie Workshop
Linear time is a construct of the ego, and you may notice that most of your thoughts during the day relate to the past and the future. If you wonder why you're not happy all the time, it's just because you have thoughts of the past and future still hanging around in the unconscious mind that flitter and flutter up to the surface during the day. What am I going to have to eat for lunch? What will I have for dinner? Is it going to rain today? Is it going to be a sunny day? Will I be able to go out and take a walk?
Listen, all these thoughts are of the past and future. These are not Ramana Maharshi's thoughts. These are not Jesus Christ's thoughts, and these are not Paramahansa Yogananda's thoughts. These are thoughts of the ego of linear time. And yet, we have to allow Jesus and the Holy Spirit to use the symbols of time to undo the belief in linear time. Jesus and the Holy Spirit don't try to hurl you into eternity. They don't hurl you screamingly into the light. They actually come and massage your mind with beautiful movies like today. This movie is a mind massage, no doubt.
Enjoy David's humourous and deep commentary inspired by one of the strongest forgiveness movies ever made.

Opening Session of the Tabula Rasa Online Retreat with David Hoffmeister, Lisa Fair and Frances Xu - October 1, 2021 Oct 02, 2021

Show notes

Opening Session of the Tabula Rasa Online Retreat with David Hoffmeister, Lisa Fair, and Frances Xu - October 1, 2021
"A healed mind is relieved of the belief that it must plan," Jesus says in A Course in Miracles. Still, all of us have been raised with the notion that if you want to be a successful functioning human being, a successful functioning citizen, you have to plan for the future, and if you can get good at planning, you will be MORE successful.
In a later part of the text, called Beyond Idols, there is a very famous section where Jesus asks, What is an idol? Do you think you know? And he goes on to say, "An idol is for more of something. It does not matter, more of what." So MORE is the concept, is the idol. So when you want more of anything, even an event or an experience or more of an object or more of an image, it doesn't really matter MORE of what, you are not in the moment. You are not in the contentment of the holy instant.
Enjoy David, Frances, and Lisa's talk about Tabula Rasa, not planning and being in the Holy Instant.

Movie "Words on Bathroom Walls" Commentary by David Hoffmeister - Weekly Online Movie Workshop Sep 26, 2021

Show notes

Movie "Words on Bathroom Walls" - Commentary by David Hoffmeister - Weekly Online Movie Workshop
From David's commentary to the Movie "Words on Bathroom Walls" -" I'm saying that all the characters, you're looking at in the world are part of a mental schizophrenic state, and that the sleeping mind, who believes in the ego, is definitely schizophrenic. The ego is generating people, and characters that aren't really there.
Most people are freaked out by schizophrenia because of the imaginary characters that aren't really there but LISTEN, we're all dealing with this every day. There are 7 billion imaginary characters that have been generated by the ego, just on planet Earth alone, running around in the ego-mind. They're all just generations of beliefs and thoughts that the ego made up.
So the human condition is schizophrenic by nature and this movie is going to help us deal with this today because this movie like the movie A Beautiful Mind will really bring it home, of what it's like to deal with dark thoughts, to deal with an unconscious mind, to deal with all these characters that aren't really there and deal with all the emotions that come up when we perceive these characters."

Movie "Insurgent" - Commentary by David Hoffmeister - Weekly Online Movie Workshop Sep 19, 2021

Movie "Insurgent" - Commentary by David Hoffmeister - Weekly Online Movie Workshop
We don't wake up through rebellion, you know, we tried. We tried other ways as well and they didn't work either. And now we're about forgiveness, release the world, release the thoughts of time, release the thoughts of space, release the judgments, release grievances. Oh, it sounds so pretty. It is actually pretty. Because it works, it actually works. So that's why we're on this journey of release. We're willing to release the self-concept of what we believe we were. The roles we played, the concepts we held. We are willing to release all of it in order to find peace of mind. We are willing to empty our mind of everything we think we think and think we know and come with wholly empty hands unto your God.

Second Session with David Hoffmeister of the Tabula Rasa Mystery School with Lisa Fair - September 16, 2021 Sep 16, 2021

Show notes

"Jesus says in the Course, 'The past is over, it can touch you not.' And then he says, 'All of the past is gone, and only its beauty and loveliness has been saved for you.' So instead of over and gone he's saying, 'Only its beauty and loveliness has been saved for you.' There's something wonderful about that idea, that only the beauty and loveliness from the past has been saved for you. Because if the world is just form and the Holy Spirit can use form—the Holy Spirit can use everything that the ego made, the ego made the form, the Holy Spirit can use it. That must mean that there's a way where I can look upon it with no attraction and no avoidance, with no feeling of being limited and no feeling of 'Oo la la, I'm so glad I've got this thing or that thing.' And that must mean there's a way of looking at [the world] where you're totally free in your mind." ~ David Hoffmeister from this second session of the Tabula Rasa Mystery School

Movie "Groundhog Day" - Commentary by David Hoffmeister - Weekly Online Movie Workshop Sep 12, 2021

Show notes

Movie "GROUNDHOG DAY" - Commentary by David Hoffmeister - Weekly Online Movie Workshop.
Imagine living your life so spontaneously. So serendipitously. So, in the moment that you don't activate the past, organize the present or plan the future.
Jesus says in the course ... that past, present, and future are not continuous unless you attempt to force continuity on them, which is the opposite of what he is asking us to do. He's saying, No, you need to let go of forcing anything. You need to relax and accept the moment as it is and let go of your past regrets and grievances and criticisms and judgments and let go of your future worries and anxieties because you were never created to be a time being. You are an Eternal Being, still a perfect child of God. You've just forgotten it.
And he's saying don't blame your body, don't go back into your mind and look at all the things you did wrong. That's not going to get you anywhere because it was all part of a misperception based on not being connected to the Holy Spirit, which is the correction. You see, the miracle is a choice. And in that choice, all mistakes are corrected. The miracle corrects retroactively and progressively. All the past mistakes you believe you made as a body are corrected in the miracle instantaneously, and even the future mistakes you're afraid you're gonna make are handled too. So powerful is the miracle that the light in the mind corrects retroactively and progressively. That is an invitation to the present moment. And that is why we are undoing guilt around past mistakes.

Closing Session - Tabula Rasa Online Retreat with David Hoffmeister and Frances Xu - September 2021 Sep 08, 2021

Show notes

Closing Session - Tabula Rasa Online Retreat with David Hoffmeister and Frances Xu - September 2021
The Holy Spirit is all about giving and extending, and the ego is all about getting and controlling. The ego doesn't mind the concept of giving as long as it can 'tack on' to the getting. I'll give this to you if you let me get this back in return. Jesus says that's not really giving at all. God didn't create us as pure spirit and say, "...and by the way, here are my demands, and here are the conditions of what you have to give me back. God just radiated pure light and joy and spirit, total communion simply because God is that way.
But in terms of this world, which is a world of ego projection, reciprocity is the key principle. Everything in the ego's world is reciprocal. And Jesus tells us right out in the course that we have to undo the belief in reciprocity. So, whether we're talking about being a minister, or whether we're talking about being a meditation teacher, or we're talking about just being happy, happiness will come from giving and not from the getting mechanism of the ego. No one who is in the getting mode will ever find lasting happiness.
Enjoy David and France's talk and engagement with the participants in this closing session that ends the first Tabula Rasa Online Retreat.
