Released in December of 2015, Thrilled was a somewhat experimental release that stands apart from much of the Punchline catalog. The album was the product of yet another major shift in the makeup of the band, now leaving only Steve and Chris to write and record as a duo. They leaned heavily into the world of synth pop, once again enlisting the help of producer Marc McClusky to bring their ambitious choices to life. What seemed like a sea change for Punchline in the moment now seems to fit perfectly into the discography, and this episode details how it all came to be.

Ep. 7: Delightfully Pleased Aug 14, 2024

In this episode of the A Band Called Punchline podcast, the guys dive into the era of the 2010 album Delightfully Pleased. With the departure of both drummer and founding member PJ Caruso and guitarist and vocalist Jon Belan, Chris and Steve found themselves at a crossroads. Bringing back Paul seemed unlikely, but a reunion was on the horizon. Paul introduced a young drummer named Cory, who stepped in at the last minute to play drums on the album and subsequently joined the band. Recorded in Steubenville, Ohio, at a familiar studio, the album saw the return of producer Jamie Woolford, who had worked with the band on their previous album, Just Say Yes, in 2008. This exciting time also took the band back to Japan, though a misplaced passport left them stressing until the very last minute. Additionally, this era brought about the band's sketchy alter egos, adding another layer of fun and creativity to their journey. Delightfully Pleased marked a return to form while still pushing the boundaries of the band’s sound.

From the exciting tours that took them all the way to the UK to the unforgettable recording sessions of the Just Say Yes album, the band vividly relives these sometimes tumultuous but always creative times. This episode explores the band’s newfound confidence in self-releasing their music after being on a label for previous albums, which marked a defining crossroads in their journey into a DIY music landscape. While some members embraced this challenge, others gracefully stepped away. THIS is the story of Punchline from late 2006 until early 2009, also known as the Just Say Yes era.
