10-year-old Krystal Surles was attacked on December 30, 1999, with her friend Kaylene Harris at her Del Rio, Texas home. A knife-wielding intruder slashed both girls’ throats and Kaylene died. Krystal not only survived the attack but was able to help a police sketch artist draw an image that led to the arrest of her attacker, Tommy Lynn Sells. After his arrest Sells confessed to the crime and revealed that he had been traveling across the country killing men, women, and children for twenty years and had never in the past left a witness alive. On December 14, 2005, the charred corpse of a young woman was found in a burned-out Jaguar on a Las Vegas, Nevada desert road. The car was registered to Kelly Ryan, who was married to Craig Titus, and both were stars of the body building world. Craig and Kelly claimed their car had been stolen the day before by Melissa James, their 31-year-old live-in assistant and a dancer, who was headed to New Jersey to spend Christmas with her mother. In December 1990, sisters Linae and Tricia Tiede were held hostage by two men -- Von Lester Taylor and Edward Steven Deli. The Tiede family had gone to spend Christmas at the family cabin in Oakley, Utah. Taylor and Deli shot their mother, father, and grandmother and planned to burn down the home. The sisters owe their survival to their heroic father, Rolf, who, though wounded, was able to get on a snowmobile and alert his brother, Randy, to call 911. On December 16, 1998, Ronda Reynolds' husband found her lifeless body with a gunshot wound to the head in her home on Twin Peaks Drive in Toledo, Washington. The death was quickly ruled a suicide. Refusing to accept the findings, Ronda’s mother, Barb Thompson, launched her own investigation. She enlisted the help of world-famous true crime writer Ann Rule, who eventually wrote the bestseller “In the Still of the Night”, about the case.
