    On January 20, 1998, 12-year-old Stephanie Crowe was found stabbed to death in her California home. Her 14-year-old brother, Michael, and his two friends admitted to killing her, but Defense Attorney Mary Ellen Attridge claimed their confessions were coerced by police.     In 1983, Patrick Welsh disappeared and left behind a suicide note. Five years later, his wife, Elizabeth, officially had him declared dead. In 1997, Elizabeth received a letter from the Social Security Administration, demanding that she pay back $56,000 in death benefits. She then discovered that Patrick was still alive and living in Texas under the name Tim Kingsbury. “48 Hours" Correspondent Harold Dow reports. Darren Mack was charged with killing his wife, Charla, and shooting Judge Weller, the family court judge who ordered Darren to pay Charla ten thousand dollars a month until the divorce was settled.     The Mystery of Jane Mixer Mar 20, 2025

    In 1969, Jane Mixer was attending the University of Michigan Law School when she was found dead just miles from her dorm. She had been shot twice in the head and strangled. Jane was the third of seven young women to be found dead in the area within two years. Investigators believed John Norman Collins was the serial killer responsible for several of the murders but couldn't prove he killed Jane. The case went cold until 2001 when the investigation was re-opened by testing DNA evidence collected more than 30-years earlier. “48 Hours" Correspondent Maureen Maher reports.
