Steve Mayer is the Chief Content Officer and Senior Executive Vice President at the NHL. He has joined Jeff and Elliotte on the podcast on several occasions to talk about league events and future plans. But this time around he sat down with the guys in Las Vegas to discuss the Winter Classic at Fenway Park, the All-Star game in Florida as well as the Stadium Series in Carolina, potential locations for the World Cup of Hockey, NHL games for 24 hours straight, P.K. Subban’s project with the league (which will be completed in Spring 2023), players expressing themselves more off the ice, and why the league wants to collaborate with other sports leagues.

Vancouver is struggling! Jeff and Elliotte kick off the podcast with an intense conversation about the Vancouver Canucks (3:40) and some of the comments made by Jim Rutherford post-game on After Hours.

They also dive into a few other stories from around the league including Ethan Bear (41:50), Rasmus Dahlin (43:45), the NHL in Australia (45:30), Luke Prokop playing his first professional game (48:45), Elliotte provides a quick thought on the salary cap (47:40) and they take you questions and a voicemail (49:15).

The guys also play a bit of a game called “are you a believer?” as they look at some of the teams that have surprised them early in the season (Buffalo - 31:00, Chicago - 32:45, Detroit - 34:10, Ottawa - 37:00, New Jersey - 37:45, Philadelphia - 39:20).

Jeff and Elliotte are joined by Olympic gold medalist & PWHPA member, Erin Ambrose and rinkside host for Sportsnet & Hockey Night in Canada, Kyle Bukauskas to pick their teams for the 2022-23 NHL season. Last season David Amber took home the title for most days with the Stanley Cup while Elliotte was hoisting the Cup on the final day of the regular season.
